Mike Watson wins seventh Triton title

His second title in a week in Montenegro sees the Canadian leapfrog into second place in the Triton title rankings.

Canadian Mike Watson has won his second turbo tournament of the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series in Montenegro. 

He took down a $50,000 Bounty Quattro event just a few days after winning the $30,000 No Limit Turbo event in the same venue. 

Watson bested a field of 32 players and a murderer's row of a final table which included Linus Loeliger, Alex Foxen, Jason Koon, and Artur Martirosian. 

He pocketed $621,000, which included $240,000 in bounties. This was a Quattro Bounty event, which is the middle ground between a standard bounty and a mystery bounty. In that, the value of the bounties increases as the tournament progresses but in a predictable way.

The double win was also particularly pertinent because it saw him leapfrog Punnat Punsri and Matthias Eibinger to go into 2nd place in the Triton titles race. He now boasts seven Triton titles, with the only player ahead of him being Jason Koon, who has 12. 

Watson said: "I don't think Jason is going to feel me breathing down his neck or anything, just quite yet. But being second alone is pretty incredible. So I'm really thrilled to have that on my resume right now."

He may not be able to relax in second place for long. At the time of writing, the CoinPoker-sponsored $100,000 No Limit Main Event has reached the final table, and Danny Tang is the big chip leader. Tang currently has five Triton titles, meaning a win today would put him in joint third.
