The Story of Viktor “Isildur1” Blom – Part 1
There are prodigies, and then there's Viktor Blom.
Blom was born on September 26th, 1990 in southern Sweden. Blom learned poker from his older brother Sebastian (himself an accomplished player, with a $146k win in the Swedish Online Poker Championship and a 24th place at EPT London 2011 on his resume) around the age of 13 or 14. Viktor and his friends played games for tiny stakes where $10 in a night was a big win. Viktor and his brother put together a bankroll $100 and deposited it online, and in their first ever tournament came in 5th out of about 700 for a $300 score. At the time, it was a huge win for the brothers. When Viktor's brother wanted to play his own money, Viktor created an account under the soon-to-be-legendary moniker of "blom90". Before the age of 15, Viktor had made it all the way up to $530 buy-in turbo Sit-N-Gos. Blom90 was a regular in the legendary poker boom era PartyPoker SNGs. On the side, Viktor and his friends were gambling big with each other. One of Viktor’s friends racked up a $5000 debt to another friend. It was the poker boom, and these aggressive young Swedes were printing money from online poker.
Around August 2008, when Viktor was 17, his bankroll was $300k. Within a few months, that bankroll was gone. Viktor had gotten behind in school and simply hearing the word “poker” made him feel sick. He had to call home for money to pay for rent and food and promised his parents he’d quit poker. Weighing his options, Viktor felt unhappy with his prospects at school or in pursuing a real job. He scrounged together about $2k and deposited it on iPoker. Writing about his boom and bust on Swedish poker community website "SvenskaSpelare.com", he described this deposit as his “one shot to succeed”.
That shot paid off.
Viktor’s rush on iPoker was first brought to the poker public’s attention on January 4th, 2009 in poker forum “TwoplusTwo”'s monthly high stakes thread. At the time, Blom was playing 6 tables of $100/$200 ($20,000 buy-in) heads up No Limit Hold'em, and a poster noticed the action and requested information on the session. One of Blom's opponents, "2eazy", replied that Blom had started at $3/$6 ($600 buy-in) No Limit Hold'em and within three weeks (though Blom's self-described timeline places the duration of time at more like two weeks) Viktor had profited $1.4 million, "running like god and busting a lot of the top pros while he's at it". 2eazy claimed that Blom had a ton of leaks and he credited Viktor’s streak to a hot run of cards.
Viktor showed in these early sessions why he would soon become the most popular player for online railbirds to follow. He played all comers at as many as 6 tables of heads up No Limit Hold’em at a time, at the highest stakes available on the network. When an opponent called Viktor “a joke” and claimed “I SHOYKD BE WINNING OVER A MIL FROM U”, Viktor calmly asked if the opponent would like to play heads up until one of them went broke. Viktor, without the use of poker books or forums (when Viktor’s opponent asked him if he read 2+2, Viktor answered “4”), quickly adapted to the high stakes games. On January 6th, 2009, 2eazy (who a couple of days earlier had called Blom a fish) warned his fellow high stakes players on 2+2 that Blom was no longer easy money and that now only the top players would have an edge on him. One of Viktor's opponents from iPoker, “snake8484”, described Viktor's rate of improvement as "insane". Blom’s profits on iPoker (from an initial deposit of $2000 about 3 weeks earlier) peaked at around $1.9 million.
However, what goes up must come down. Viktor lost a large portion of his bankroll to Peter "Zupp" Jensen. 2eazy posted on 2+2 that Viktor’s downswing was about $1.5 million, which means Blom was down to his last few hundred thousand. Luckily for Viktor, it was in fact Robert “Gulkines” Flink playing on Zupp’s account versus Viktor, and the two were caught and forced by Bet365 to return $800,000 to Blom.
Viktor next moved to other European sites/networks like Cryptologic, Microgaming, Entraction and Svenska Spel. One of his best known screennames from this time, “Zebul_ON”, ran riot on Entraction. Playing no higher than $100/$200, Viktor won a million dollars in a week on this account. One of Viktor's opponents from Entraction, "snakekilla88", wrote that Viktor's aggressive style was simply unparalleled, and that playing Blom was "a great lesson....that some one can manage to play a style that I can’t understand yet still be amazing at poker."
Estimates of Blom’s winnings across European poker sites from 2008 – 2009 range from three to four million dollars. After conquering the European online poker scene, Viktor was ready to take on the best players in the world on the American poker site Full Tilt. Naming himself after a Tolkien character, Viktor created the account “Isildur1” which was first spotted at the $25/$50 tables on September 16th, 2009. Little did his opponents know that Isildur1 would soon be playing $500/$1000 ($100,000 buy-in) games against the site’s biggest winners and winning and losing millions in a day. November 2009 was to be the greatest month in the history of online poker.

You started out as Blom90 on the iPoker network. Tell us the story of the Blom90 bankroll. What stakes were you playing? How long did it take you to build it up until you could take a shot at the nosebleeds on Full Tilt?
I deposited $2K.This was really my only money. If I lost this, I would have to go and do something else. After I got the money and deposited, I went out to a chill place and sat down for an hour and thought how it had to be done, what I had to do, which stakes, and so on. I chose multi-tabling NLHU. I just played every regular that gave multi-tabling action. After two to three weeks, I smashed every level and now I had a bankroll of $2M and I was playing $100/$200 daily. A standard day around that time could be 15 hours, doing nothing else besides playing. I was in the zone. When I’m really in the zone I like to play a lot, and when I’m not playing a lot, I like to just chill and do other things I enjoy in life. Awhile after that, I was the biggest winner at four different European sites that year.
Do you remember a moment when you thought, “I can be the best in the world at this game?”
About that time, I was tired and sitting and waiting for action, so I deposited a lot on FTP,where I had been told I would find quite a bit of action and regulars needed to be sent broke. At this point, I was certain I was the best NLHU player on this planet. $200/$400 had been the highest stakes, so it felt kind of cool to be playing $300/$600 and $500/$1,000. I felt it really was high, and I’d never played that high before, but still that was just good and I managed to play even more focused, and most of the regs played very nitty, and it was easy barreling. I felt I had an advantage against every opponent in NLHU.

lol, was ist daran denn jahre später ein problem? kann mich da problemlos outen mit 17 angefangen zu haben.
