"Dear Player,
PokerStars is writing to you today to make you aware of a new policy that
will apply to all multi-table heads-up Sit & Go tournaments. Our records
show that you regularly participate in these games.
A number of players have complained about certain players who sometimes work
as a group. These players will 'flip' (that is, go all-in on the first hand)
if they get paired together in the first round. If they are paired against a
player who is not in their group then they play the match out normally.
While this is not collusion, such players do gain some advantage in
multi-table heads-up SnG tournaments. This is because when they are paired
together, they have the ability to scout out how their next opponent will
play, but the opponent has no way to gain any information on their own play.
We have decided that the advantage these players gain by acting in this way
is unfair and going forward will be enforcing the following policy:
"All players are obliged to play out their HU matches, except for the final
of any event, in a normal way without 'flipping', regardless of who their
opponent is. Players are not permitted to engage in any form of prize-split
or equity-sharing with any opponent in a tournament comprised of HU matches,
except for their final opponent."
Deal-making is still permitted in the final of any HU tournament. Note that
PokerStars does not take any responsibility whatsoever for deals made
without a Support Agent at the table, so you should call Support if you wish
to make a deal and do not know your opponent personally.
We will take action whenever we find any players flipping or profit-sharing
in preliminary rounds of multi-table heads-up Sit & Go Tournaments. Our
first action will be to prevent the offending players from playing together.
As some players may not be aware of the new policy, we may remove this
restriction if the offending players agree to abide by it in future events.
However, for subsequent offences we may take stronger action ranging from
disqualification from the tournament (with partial or full forfeiture of
winnings), to barring from PokerStars.
As always, we welcome feedback on our policies. If you have any questions or
comments, please email us at gamesecurity@pokerstars.com.
Regards,
Someone,
