Given how bad I played, we can call that a miracle or just being doomswitched for 3200BB over few month. I'm not complaining about it and was kidding when I said I will playing 0.05/0.10. It's just getting really thougher to make it for a living and as the winrate decrease, the break-even cycle becomes nightmares.

I just watched some 0.25/0.50 tables on stars, and I saw a lots of regs that I played months/years ago between 2/4 and 5/T (maybe even higher). So yeah, it's becoming harder especially if you're kid of new to the game because you are quickly facing players who already have played million's a hands. It's still doable and you will need to know how to play those players if you want to move up. So we can see it as a "cheap way" to practice against those players. Plus you still have a lot of good tables at those stakes.

about the kidding part. Im almost tempted if the way it is going now and you never will find a new game then you'll end up below 25/50c.. as you said regs from months years ago playing 25/50c now. I know of one ElverGalinda whom ive seen play 5/T .. He or she plays 5/Tc pretty often. and no its not a "go down because im tilted and spew off a few bucks" kinda run. I see him more on 5/Tc than 5/T. (Ive seen his moving up through the stakes over the years so I know he earned getting to 5/T)

Turns out that once taxes and other such things are done, being a poker pro over the long term is REALLY hard because there are a ton of factors you can't control and everyone gets better

Especially given the fact that if you're intelligent enough to be a winning player in today's poker games you could probably earn just as much if not more elsewhere with a lot less risk involved.

Yes there are always those who will be good enough/ahead of the curve enough/lucky enough to have run good while building a huge bankroll or binking a tourney but they will get less and less as the years go by and the more and more you rely on rakeback for your winnings, the more control the sites have over you. LHE is just one of the first games to see this happen.

I agree, the future in very uncertain (especially for full-time pros). The main factor being how much less rakeback will you get (or how much rake will increase) in the future...

IMO, the most important thing is how much you're enjoying what you're doing. If you're playing poker only for money, you probably doing it wrong and you won't last very long anyway. But it's important to not discourage yourself and the others just because the worst regulars players are slowly dying. It would have happen anyway to anyone who stopped improving his game.

Keep playing if you enjoy the game, but don't expect to much in terms of winnings (and don't get fooled by short terms results).

I might be over optimistic, but 2015 will likely be my last year as semi-professionnal and I'm pretty sure I will perform better than I did in 2014 (even if I don't necessarily plan to play higher limits again).
I still love the game (when I don't have to make those stupid VPP at least), and I hope that LHE still have good days in front of him.

:f_thumbsup:

If you don't enjoy it, don't do it, that's pretty much the #1 rule I have. Yes we've all got to make a living and we're not always going to 100% love what we do but never do something you hate for a living, it's just not going to work for your happiness or wellbeing and doing something you love as a job can sometimes be a way for that to turn into hate, I've learned that on a couple of things in the past

Yes if your work is something you love you'll never have to go to work again but if you turn something you love into just a job, that's a bit of a tragedy

It's so important I'll quote it again:

I'd say making $10k/month working in my country is much MUCH easier than making $1k/month playing poker. I'd stretch that to $20k/month if you are talented. The only caveat being that the former does involve education if you want a safe route to the dough. The thing to do with poker these days (if you're young and bright enough) is to finance your studies and then later have it as a hobby.

Real job and high salaries aren't about intelligence. You can be a blond woman with big boobs, or just have great social connexions, or just comes from a high social class family. Those will help you to get a higher payoff in your job. But "intelligence" will not achieve anything in that way. If it was the case, the world would be a better place to live ;).

That's my opinion, I might be wrong, if it's the case, I should come and work in your country if it's so easy to earn 10k/month (I'm still an engineer afterall). That being said, I agree with the fact that it's easier to do your job than playing poker, but freedom has no price and poker gives you way more than any other job I know.

You will not choose playing poker for a living if you aren't already a winner for a significant period of time/numbers of hands. Those winnings have to be big enough to pay your bills. Plus you should have enough money in your bank account to live at least 6 to 12 months w/o any cashout. So unless you have all of that, you shouldn't even consider becoming professionnal. That doesn't mean you shouldn't play LHE for fun, you can still go playing some boring big bets poker games if you want to win more $$$.

It's like saying "I won't play Starcraft 2, because I will never be good enough to play the Proleague in Korea", that makes no sense.

LHE is dead, LHE players are speaking of real job things :f_biggrin:

Well 10k$/month is in my country almost 2-year salary lol. My gf was making 500$/month last year as a receptionist 12 hour a day ( night shifts included ). So here as a student im pretty happy with poker earnings. And big part is, that i can afford almost everything i want and dont have to rely on my parents pocket money. Also poker is pretty etertaining hobby, so doing something i love and get money out of it is a big plus. :f_love:

Of course, intelligence doesn't equal a good job and a good salary. But being talented at something people (companies) want to pay for + hard work and sound choices early in life = $$$. I'd say (I know) an engineer can make $10k/month. But that takes a talented and hard-working one with (at least) a masters degree willing to move about. I understand incomes (and I hope living expenses) are much lower in some countries, and therefore a modest poker win is serious money. What I'm saying is that if I was a million years younger than I am and broke, I'd play online to try to partly finance my studies, then try to do well enough to get a top notch (paid for) education, perhaps elsewhere in the world. Not easy, but probably easier than winning $1k/month on a long term basis grinding Sit&Go's or whatever. There are more successful engineers in the $10k league around the globe than poker players. Engineers is just an example. Become a doctor or whatever. Those who simply can't (different from don't want to, because they hate school) get a decent working career, are quite unlikely to be good poker players anyway, which I think was the essence of the Boomer quote.

fixed limit has not died in the .com! May be more difficult to win, but at least you can play FL :(

In Spain, yes it is dead, there are only 2 or 3 tables 2/4cts between pokerstars.es and 888.es and occasionally some table of other levels ,2 or 3 for all levels in pokerstars+888 in all day. In other spain rooms there are 0 tables all day. In pokerstars.com there are at least 100 opened tables all day lol

Not relax the mood. The future depends on us, we are the Limit resistance!! :)
