Hello Pleno,

I recently found an opponent in micros which has a 4bet bluff range Oop which consists of hands such as QTs, KTs, QJs.

What kind of 5bet range should we develop against this?

Should I only have a 5bet value range?

I was thinking that a 5bet bluff range with some suitness would be a good idea.

How do you coope in those spots?

Also given that it is almost sure he will be firing the flop if I flat do you think it is more +EV to call with the top end of our range rather than 5betting?

Merry christmas,

Nick

You need to have a HUD that is very easy for you to use and set out correctly, having too many stats does not make sense. It also differs depending on how many tables you play etc.

Here is the HUD that I use at the moment, which I really really like.

Name
Total Hands

- - - - - - - - -

Tot 3bet
Fold to 3bet
Squeeze

- - - - - - - - -

Flop Cbet
Fold to flop Cbet

- - - - - - -

EP PFR
MP PFR
CO PFR
BTN PFR
SB PFR

- - - - - - -

Tot vpip
Tot pfr

- - - - - - - -

Btn steal
Fold to btn steal

I then have all my stats coloured perfectly. The lighter the colours the more passive the guy is, the more red the colour the more good/aggro he us and the more purple he is the more of an absolute maniac he is.

Any chance you can save this somewhere and post a link for us to download?

Hey pleno!

I know that you play (/been playing) the anon tables at MG. I was just wondering if you have any experience with the 4bet/5bet dynamics in the nl400-600 games?

For instance, I found that at nl200 you can basically 4bet everytime you are beeing faced with a 3bet at an early point (assuming villain is fullstacked, and seemingly a reg) with a huge success rate. My attempts at nl400-600 have not yet been very successful though, and I find that I am very often are being faced with a 5bet jam when I use the same strategy of always 4betting the first 3bet.

Any thoughts on this?

Should we be more inclined to 4bet/call of lighter here, even without history, assuming people are thinking on the next level and 5bet jams light?

I also find that the same holds true for early 3bets, where on nl200 they are very efficient and results in many folds, they are now often just being followed up by a 4bet.

Thoughts?

Would you recommend to try SNE 2013 by just playing Zoom nl500 / NL200 (135h a month, around 4,5h a day when 4-tabling)?

Hey,

This would totally depend.

Who are you?
What do you play?
What limits do you play?
What is your current win rate?
Plans for future in poker?
Other commitments?

For some people it may be perfect, for some it would be the worst decision ever. I know a guy, good friend, good player, who lost 100k at 200nl trying to get to supernova elite.

I know another guy who won a lot of money and reaped the rewards.

So tell me a little about you? :)

Oh jaaysus! Did he make it in the end? Hope he did!

I think I'd call it quits if I lost 100bi, never mind 500bi!

He deviated from his good game to up the volume imo..

Actually when you think about it with the volume needed its prob only about -2bb/100...

And if Stars rake is 4bb/100 then he probably made like 50k. (using the 74% on pokerstars website) That assumes 100k is -2bb/100

hey pleno happy new year

i've read through half of this thread so far and found lots of interesting nuggets of information.. but i have a problem with my game that is hard for me to find solid info on anywhere and it is the topic of playing in the blinds. you touched on it with DeMarcohsp but it was more of a short discussion of ranges.

these are some problems i encounter:
- playing dominated hands postflop... in 3bet pots or in single raised pots where i have just called the raise OOP
- playing small PPs from the blinds vs a LP open
- constructing a 3betting range vs different player types
- understanding when it's necessary to 3bet and when (if ever?) it's better to cold call and play OOP.

i watched a video by mbml where he clearly stated that depolarising our 3betting range from OOP in the blinds will be best since people are going to be calling lighter IP so we want a wider value range. this makes a lot of sense! so for example, this means i will be 3betting a range like 99+, ATs/KTs/QTs/JTs+, AJo/KJo/QJo+ vs a LP open..

but then i read in a book that we should be depolarising our 3bet range from the blinds which im really not sure i agree with for the exact reason that mbml states. and then again across forums when reading about this topic i just run into lots of people disagreeing "3bet small PPs from the blinds", "no don't 3bet small PPs", "3bet or fold from the blinds" "no, have a flatting range and play postflop" etc etc

when i run into a situation like this where i dont know what i should do, i like to find as much info/advice as i can get so that i can actually understand why i choose to play a certain way. so i'm not exactly looking for you to spoon feed here because i understand it is a huge topic and very player dependent, but i just feel like i have this huge gap in my knowledge when it comes to playing in the blinds :( can you (or anybody!) offer some of your wisdom?

Lewis.

Hey!

I wanted your opinion about calling blind's 3bet when opening from BU. What types of hands can be profitable to call 3bet in positioin and which should be strictly avoided to call? Slowplayed premium hands doesn't count :P

cheers,
Happy New Year!

me too!!
And I read similar quest every week in this forum with no adequate answers.

I hope PS.com coach write article (or series?) about this topic. Not videos!
I believe this topic is better to be explained with articles than videos.

@DrDunne: Maybe the best answer is to read hasenbraten Math articles. But it's not an easy ones!

My opinion:
blind 3bet >20% depolarizing
and fold >90% to 4bet.

I'll call 3b about 5%-10% or maybe best 20% depend on how his postflop play

Hi Pleno,

just wondering about moving from party to PS to play NL200 Zoom in order to achieve SNE status by the end of year. But what do you think about traffic on nl200 zoom? Can you compare it to FTP rush poker after relaunch of FTP?

Thanks

Hey there :)

I want to ask about bluffing when villains line doesnt seem like a strong holding or not making much sense - should we bluff/rebluff in these spots in general without any information about the villain or should we just sigh&fold/give up
*(an example would be villain is the PFA and x/c on a 976ss board - I can easily see myself barreling at least twice vs such line and then wondering if I should fire a third one aswell *on blankish T& R)
