[Closed] Non supportive family or friends

My best friend said today exactly this when I told I play poker: "Thats not good, you should stop, I know a friend that lost a house, at the start they let you win and then they take it all back".

Yikes! I thought the economy here was in the tank. Where do you live that 350$ a month for 8 hours a day work is good?

For the people worrying about saying you play poker for a living...tell them you are a personal injury attorney (people don't like them) with a straight (poker) face. When they start to mutter something just say, nah I play poker. They won't worry about it now as they will just be happy you aren't the personal injury attorney lol.

Girlfriend...
Today I had a long walk with my girlfriend and all we talked about was poker.
She asked me bunch of (stupid :f_biggrin:) questions and I was really glad to answer them. We are together for like 3 years and we have never talked more than 15 minutes about this topic, so it was kinda refreshing.

I described her everything I could... She understood some stuff, others not.
I told her I would (probably) never play poker as a pro, I told her about BRM, limits and stuff like that and that there is really low possibility that I could go broke. She is supportive and she likes that I have a hobby... Which pays of, lol...

My parents...
They know I play (obv) and I think they are OK with it. I told them I would never invest my own money into poker and that was it... They were satisfied
From time to time they ask me about poker when I get some tshirts, books and other stuff at home
Tipical noob question:
Parents: How much money you've got?
Me: 2000$
P: What? 2000$? How much money did you already lose.
And then describing how this not goes like that

Friends and other family...
No one plays poker. No one! Which is really really strange because poker is more and more popular here. So we never talk about this.

AlexanderD22, i'm mostly talking about students with no working experience. Romania, EU. But still, the average salary is like 450$. I guess the good part is that a rather mediocre but profitable player can make that much..

I don't have this kind of problems. I don't see Poker as gambling and I have a strong realty, meaning that I am the only one responsible for what I do and have and I'm not making any excuses. I believe in whatever I do.

The thing is that most people that ask me about poker end up in playing themselves ♦ I've almost convinced people of 40+ years to quit there jobs and start playing poker. And I don't hide that there are bad days to, it's part of the game.

This is called Persuasion, the ability to make others accept and adopt your ideas. It's a must have for good businessman and leaders. As my interest are entrepreneurship and investing, besides poker, it's a must have for me too.

Anyway, I like to tell people my record loses or winnings in a day. I make them guess, then I tell them (for now I have -54 and +32)

I stopped telling my friends/family about poker as soon as I started winning ♦ Altough my mom came into my room the other day and I just had to show her my $700+ stack on a cash table , I bet she was worried/pissed at me gambling in one table more money than any monthly paycheck she has ever gotten

altough neither her or my dad has told me anything about it, they know I play for real money but not my roll/stakes/swings

It's also a must-have for any Network marketing agent who wants to sell you some random Amway product you'll never use.

I don't know the details of you 'persuasion' methods but convincing a 40 year old to quit a regular job and start making a living with just playing poker doesn't seem quite the brightest idea. It's easy to 'persuade' people with showing them your upswing graphs, but detailed were you about downswings, bad beats and tilting?

I take poker as a hobby with which I make some extra $. I'm a winning player online and in real life for about a year but I have never thought of poker being my only source of income. Maybe that's why I have supportive people around me.
