call the bet on the flop, thought he has a top pair so folded the turn

my main question is: is it ok to bet the flop with pocket pairs when the flop isn't in your favor.

1) I would 3-bet the flop for value because I want to have the initiative in this hand, so I can continue with a bet on the turn and haven't to donk it because I'm afraid of a check behind from BU.
With your line on flop and turn, I would raise the river. Only a better set or a backdoorstraight will beat us but it is more likely that SB holds a two pair.

2) Preflop, you should only limp your pocket out of this position. With the flop action, I would fold it because it is possible that UTG+1 hits a 9 or a J and there are also three other opponents who could hit something. Raising would be a opportunity but for a raise, I think, you need a read on UTG+1. calling is a no, no, because we can't call to our two outs (we have also to discount one because of the possibility of a flush).
Folding directly on the flop seems to me the best play here.

3) Here, you can raise your 77 preflop. In the SHC it says "Raise 1 / Call 3". There is only one limper, so we can raise it. Flop and turn is played well. On the river we have to ask ourself what SB can call here and if we have a valuebet on the river. The only acceptable hand he will call us on the river and we beat him is a pair of fives. All other hands, he should call us, will beat us. But if you know that he is likely to call a busted draw or his overcards then you could have a valuebet here. But against an unknown opponent, I would check behind on the river.

4) Betting the flop is the right thing here, we don't wanna give here a freecard. With the raise from MP1, he is very likely to hold an Ace and if he holds one, we will draw to two outs but only get 7,5:1 on the flop. So we can throw it away or 3-bet it because we don't believe him the ace. But his raise shows us a big strength because there are also other opponents behind him. So I would fold it direct on the flop.

5) Preflop, you can raise your 77. In the SHC it says "Raise 0 / Call 3" for the middle position. We are first in, so we can raise it. With the preflop action I would raise on the flop because it is very hard to hit a paired board and we are often enough ahead. He can bet here overcards or a flushdraw. If you call the flopbet, you can make a move on the turn and raise it for free showdown or you call it down. But calling the flopbet and folding to a turnbet, seems to me not as a good play.

To your main question:
It depends on how many opponents you play against and on your position. If you are heads up or three handed and the board is hard to hit, you have to bet to protect your hand. But if it is a multiway pot and your pocket is not an overpair or at least second pair it is no big mistake to fold it.

1) yep 3-bet flop. you can even raise the river...

2) fold flop directly

3) check river behind. you only beat a 5 :)

4) on this limit I think you can fold it on the flop. against a good TAG you can call down (but not on this limit trhere aren't no good tags (I mean tags higher who play 10/20$+ .. people who beat me ^^))

5) I call it down if no K or A comes on the river.

Remoh said mainly the same as I see now but he explains it a bit better. thx remoh :)
