its not a weak play. what you put into action here was the line

check call - check raise.

here on the river i really hate his 3bet and I dont know what I think of the river raise. I can't judge it whether its correct or not (2.34 am) But I seriously doubt its good. rather just call his donk bet.

River I would make it a call now, KK/QQ/TT and AJ all beat you. All these hands could be played by this villain in this manner. TT and AJ may donk this in exactly this way. I doubt he will donk AK,AQ,AT,99,77 so I would just call.

3bet was no fun, but you likely have to call getting 15:1 with trips. I would expect to lose every time but 1 in 16 is a lot of every's ...

If he was just bluffing, then either villain has tilted, or is a maniac. At least until he returns to a safer state, tighten up when out of position and never fold when you have some kind of hand you can show down.

No, it wasn't.

The river: The SB's line is a bit indicative of a common fish play. They donk the river with medium strength hands because they are going to call a bet anyway, and they don't want you to check behind with a worse hand. This would be sound with initiative and with the intention of folding their worst value hands to a raise. But these fish generally don't do that, they bet-call.

Based on experience (population reads), I like the river raise. A concrete read would, of course, override that conclusion.

My only objection here is what do you do when your 3bet, it can't be a medium strength hand at that point it is a monster, but you hate to fold to such a big pot. I agree that villain b/c's a lot here if a fish, but he may just fold his 3rd pair, on such a scary board. Without a solid read that he will bet a mid strength hand here, but will c/r a monster, it appears he won't but you will know that now that you've seen the result.

I still like just a call here with a big but not super strong hand.

I too like to go on reads, but without reads, I say you should raise the river because no hand that beats you could rationally be played the way the opponent played it.

If you are 3-bet, then you call and pay off. As simple as that. You don't fold nut trips.

Most of the time he'll not have a monster (meaning AJ/TT because KK/QQ must 3-bet on the turn unless he is brain-dead). Much more often he'll have QT/KT, and even smaller trips which he is slowplaying stupidly (count the combos and take into account that the natural thing to do for him is to check-raise the river if he makes nuts there) and he suddenly realizes that you might check behind. If you don't raise the nut trips here, do you raise with the nut straight (J9 is not in your range)?

Hi!

River raise is totally fine, way too often they will just have a hand that doesnt want you to check behind. After 3bet it is ugly indeed and you clearly become a pretty big dog.Nothing else but to call without reads
