villain 42/32 31hands, 100%btn steal

not sure pre: i dont love to 3b these hands too much tbh bc of the non nuttiness, but maybe i should be ?

i think flop and turn are std

river: im blocking jxxx, he could have some busted str draws or bd fd's, but could also have some 2p hands ...

he seemed quite aggro, should be vbetting myself or let him bluff the bd straight?

SB: $116.14 (232.3 bb)
Hero (BB): $76.59 (153.2 bb)
MP: $18.78 (37.6 bb)
CO: $56.79 (113.6 bb)
BTN: $107.69 (215.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K♦ 9♣ Q♣ J♣
2 folds, BTN raises to $1.50, SB folds, Hero calls $1

Flop: ($3.25) 6♦ 4♣ J♥ (2 players)
Hero bets $2.32, BTN calls $2.32

Turn: ($7.89) T♦ (2 players)
Hero bets $5.64, BTN calls $5.64

River: ($19.17) K♥ (2 players)
Hero ???

In this case sample size isn't that big but imo you can (should) 3-bet hands this strong against player who steals a lot.
Also i think that in heads-up pots "floppability" is more important than the nuttiness, while in multiway pots it's vice versa. Sure if you can have them both that's fine also.

I wouldn't usually donk this. We're doing quite fine against villains wide range and because the board is very good for cbetting, why not just let the aggro guy bet. When you donk, only thing that is going to happen is that he'll probably fold his air.
Also i don't want to get raised here. Either we are playing big pot with mediocre hand, or we have to fold in a spot when we usually have decent equity. Of course the board isn't too good to prep many strong hands/draws so i'm not sure how likely he is going to raise. But overall i would prefer cheking over donking.

As played i think it's ok to barrell the turn.

Otr i would just bet. I think it's not very likely that he would try to bluff you out by repping r-r straight after you've been betting very strong on previous streets.

Hi thx for the reply

Im not convinced that this hand is so great to 3b oop especially vs this kind of player, as u can't be really be happy to gii with a pair + jhi fd for example.

Ur right its a Hu pot but we are oop in a bloated pot if we 3b
Obv IP is btn vs co its a no brainer 3bet

Flop I prefer donking as i think c/c is very weak and you open urself up to be barrelled off ur hand Ott. And obv by donking u create a lot of FE and you want to charge his draws. U don't want him to check behind with oesd, right?

Also if you 3b you can't just c/c this flop - I think that would be super weak

Otr - its a bd straight so its unlikely we have it and its a single raised pot - the Spr is still high and I think my hand looks like I'm giving up and vs this aggressive player its better to let him bluff imo

Hi,

before the river everyhing said is standard.

Otr here's the question. Villain either has a draw, or he has a made hand. You have to think which is more likely. Imho, it's more likely he has something, as there is only 1 draw otf. It's still possible obviously.

However your line looks like a busted draw as well if you bet big otr, so i would always bet in your shoes. The problem with checking is that we can't be sure villain will bluff his busted draw, but we can be sure he will check behind hands as strong as top 2 pair, which are never folding to a bet. So in my mind, i always fire the river here.

Skod

Hmm my thoughts are a bit different from Skod. I don't think we look like a busted draw when we bet the river big, I'm not sure we would take that line with the low wrap (578) and flushdraws are also not that likely. Imo we have too much FE with a river bet. It's unlikely he is really strong to begin with, Skod said he'd call top2 but we block top2 and he needs to get KJ to the river somehow (sure there are ways, but not all KJ combos in a BTN range can call the turn).
I think he has a busted draw or (too) little SDV quite often and would expect a bet otr if we check to him.
It's also interesting to look at our range and what we represent. I think it's less likely for us to be really strong here as we lead the flop, so there shouldn't be too many Q9/AQ combos in our range. He will often put us on 2pair etc and I can imagine him turning a lot of hands into a bluff on the river.

Hi,

i just think villain too often has a sd value that he is not turning into a bluff otr ever So the only way to get value is to bet, especially since we hit a backdoor hand that villain will never put us on. After all how many Q9 and AQ hands do we have that donk flop?

Sl

Sorry I don't want to overanalyze hands but I'm still not convinced by your argument that he often has SD which he checks behind.
What kind of hands? Jacks up? Yes he often has that but he will rarely call three streets with that IMO, yes we are unlikely to have made a straight but J6/J4 can easily be beat and we also don't have that much bluffs in our range. The stronger 2pairs you mentioned are rather unlikely as we block them and especially a BTN range is too wide to vbet almost exclusively against this kind of hand. If he were a MP raiser it would be a whole different situation. I don't see much other hands being able to call 3 streets, maybe sometimes a bottom set.
If we then look at his non-SDV hands we can find a decent junk of them, like all 75 combos, pair+FD, pair+SD. This part of his range he can not check behind and will turn it into a bluff, and I think it's larger than the rather narrow part which is able to call 3 streets.

Hi,

we are going to have to agree to disagree. This is a terrible spot for villain to bluff. Why? Because he can't rep much here once only some backdoor draws hit. It's the same reason why you are going to get called light here. You cannot rep anything either.

Skod
