This is a hand from a tournament i played yesterday, the entry fee is about 10+1$, and the players are worse then everything you could ever imagine.

I hope i can write the hand as close to hand converters as possible.

Pokerclub No-Limit Holdem Tournament, Big Blind is 1000 (10-handed)

UTG (t 20k)
UTG1 (t 20k)
UTG2 (t 20k)
MP1 (t 20k)
MP2 (t 20k)
MP3 (t 20k)
CO (t 20k)
Hero (t 20k)
SB (t 20k)
BB (t 20k)

Preflop: Hero is BU with 4♠ 7♣
7 folds, Hero raises to 3000, 1 fold, BB calls

Flop: (t6500) 2♠3♥4♦ (2 players)

BB bets 5000, Hero raises all-in.

First someone should yell at me because i tried to play these complete garbage hand.

SB was not at the table and BB was having some sort of conversation with someone in the other end of the room + the fact i haven't played a hand in at least half of hour should make a better hand then this a steal.

Anyway, since i played it i hand in mind something like: he checks, i conti-bet, he folds. But when he bet i felt like if he really had anything on that flop he would let me make my conti-bet to extract more money, since it's unlikely i hit it.

So basically i considered his bet a bluff, and that is why i raised. Opinions?

when playing against really bad players the thing you should never do is try to bluff them. Playing TAG works best against bad players in general. If steals work, you could steal with a wide range of hands. But 4-7 offsuit should never be in that range imo.

You risked your whole tournament with a pair of 4s and 7 kicker. Even though you might be ahead he could have an overpair or A-4, A-5 or even 2-3 suited if the players are as horrible as you.

I'd fold it preflop, your don't have much chips. and 4-7 is absolute trash hand, which you would have to fold on the flop 95% of the time or make a very loose agressive play like you did. Imo it's not worth it..

if the players are as horrible as you

Lol, ty sir!

IMO there are very little hands he could have if he was a decent player. I would never cold call in his place here with ANY pocket pair, maybe excepting a slow play with KK or AA, which i don't like and very rarely do.

It's either a fold or raise for just about any pocket pair: he can't call for set value and he doesn't want to see a flop. If he was thinking that i'm stealing he could 3bet preflop with lower pocket pairs.

So then with what does he just calls me and then decides to make a play that Moshman said it's almost always a bluff?

These guys have no problem betting into 5way pots with nothing, calling the river with J high, rasing after 2 players raised with AQ, and you tell me i'm beat on that flop?

Conclusion: a decent player almost never has a hand here. A bad player might have just about anything, but if you put the hand in Equilator i can bet i have 60%+ to win on the flop.

PS: I know stealing with 47o is bad, and don't think i do it often. However, i think in this situation, because of what my opponents were doing, is almost standard.

i meant, if the players are as horrible as you said lol.. forgot to put said at the end.

btw, you exactly nailed it. These players are so horrible they overplay cards badly. That's the reason you shouldn't try to bluff them, because they will call you down with like bottom pair or a gutshot. Or in this situation call with a very wide range of hands.

Just saying that personally i wouldn't do it. I like to steal with hands that aren't good but not trash either.

against the players you described folding pre-flop is the correct play.

you have 20BB and no room to move. just wait for premium hands or wait for push/fold to start.

as played: i would probably go broke here too, i would expect to have some fold equity. + he can do this with an A, 2 or 3.

folding pre is obv the correct play :)

you have 20bb with dead money in the SB and possibly antes? as well.. I would raise here to 2bb without further information. I dislike 3BB raises in general with just 20bb stacksizes.

As played raising the flop makes a little sense because we want to protect against Ax, overcards that are betting out etc. But I would be more inclined to do that with a weaker hand. With top pair on this flop I think calling is fine and playing a turn. I don't intend to fold though unless the turn is an ace or a 5 and he keeps betting

In a live tourney, half hour is a joke. It is barely an orbit. I've commonly folded every hand in almost two hours, to find myself losing w AK to a donk whose fave hand is K9. Bad players don't pay attention to the style of the opponents, their stack sizes or even know what the M ratio is.

I agree with Chenny. I raise with your crappy hand from the button as well, but to 2,200- 2,400 (I'd do the same with a monster, btw). Very bad players will call with air if there is a bigger amount of chips in the middle, just because the pot is "worth it", hoping to catch their 2nd pair or their gutshot straight. They are that bad.
