Hi,

Back at the tables after a long break for the Winter series, and in the very first event, after a pretty good run during early levels, found myself in this spot

Tournament situation - this is in the money, but the mincash is less than the buy-in, and pay jumps are very insignificant at this stage. You have to earn bounties to get prizes

I wasn't able to pick up many hands for a while before this point, and my stack dwindled to slightly below average

CO's bounty was just over the buy-in ($1.13 I think) - the largest bounty at the table (well, the second largest after myself)

Now in a normal tournament I would most likely flat with this hand and try to see a cheap flop. With bounties in play, I decided to shove, because

* I want to discourage BB from coming along
* I don't see myself 3-bet/folding, and would like to maximise fold equity
* If called, I want to make sure I can see all 5 cards

However, I realise that normally 28bb effective stack is too deep for an immediate 3-bet shove. It was an aggressive move, which may have been influenced by seeing various streamers aggressively bounty hunt - and perhaps I took this line without truly undestanding it

* The CO is also aware of the bounty situation, which makes them call with a wider range
* If I'm called and lose, I'm left with 7bb and no longer have the abilty to bounty hunt (and will be bounty hunted myself, with $1.81 on my head)

So what's your line here? I feel my understanding of PKOs is below par. Honestly, I can even be talked into folding!

In this case I would prefer a call more than a shove or you have stats he will fold a lot on 3bets and 87s isn't playing to bad post-flop ether. Otherwise you take a decent variance spot as well.

Are bounties not a factor at all? I wanted to 3-bet / isolate the high bounty raiser because flatting felt like for an invitation for BB to squeeze and hunt the bounty himself. Or should bounty hunting not even be a consideration when 28bb deep? As I said, in a regualr non-PKO MTT I would also lean towards flatting

Admittedly if I knew the CO was calling with QTs, it wasn't a great play - but I didn't know at the time

yes, bounties are important. For let's say you have got a starting bounty for about 50c and he got busted one or two players and end up at his bounty. This means that his bounty is close to you overall buyin. So you can this transfer into chips for about 1 starting stack and add a starting stack in chips to your odds calc. Implied odds will increase due to that. That means in your case calling pre is more profitable.

The starting stack was 25K chips in this event, while in this hand, the effective stack was 167K, almost 7 times bigger. The half-bounty on CO displayed at the table as $1.13 (the half of the bounty that would be credited into your account had you won it) was merely 4.5 times bigger than the starting $0.25 (half of $0.49). Therefore, the bounty had an even smaller effect on ranges in this phase than at the start of the tourney, and flatting was better than 3-betting, considering that BB was yet to act.

As a note, I'm fairly certain the bounty Stars displays at the table is already halved, and is the amount of money you will actually get upon busting that player

In my opinion, the big risk is on your side ... but if you passed, you would have chips to catch the next player ... I rarely played KO, but my opinion that the risk is worth the time ... maybe I'm wrong, but better I pass when I risk more
