Hi,

I faced a 3 bet on the turn after making 2 pair and wasn't happy with the decision I made.

The tournament had around 70 players left with top 55 in the money, I was in around 15th place and had very recently been moved to a new table so did not have any reads on the players.

Any help with the thought process / decision much appreciated;

BTN: 7,213 (7.2 bb)
SB: 21,017 (21.0 bb)
Hero (BB): 51,727 (51.7 bb)
UTG + 1: 88,597 (88.6 bb)
UTG + 2: 19,932 (19.9 bb)
MP1: 8,317 (8.3 bb)
MP2: 48,144 (48.1 bb)
MP3: 33,708 (33.7 bb)
CO: 38,117 (38.1 bb)

Preflop: Hero is bb with 5d Ah
UTG+1 raises to 2000, 7 folds, Hero calls 1000

Flop: (4950) 2h Jh Ad
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets 2500, Hero calls 2500

Turn: (9950) 5s
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets 6000, Hero raises to 13000, UTG+1 re-raises to 37850

When UTG+1 bet the turn after my check I was reasonably sure he had at least a pair, the question for me really came down to whether it was AJ or better. Thinking back now I would say that if he has Aq, Ak, or any other single pair he would not re-raise on the turn. The same for a flush draw. So, would it make sense that hes only re-raising here with Aj, JJ or AA?

Hi themagic85 and welcome to the Hand Evaluation Boards!

Regards and have fun!

Mal.

Given stack to pot ratio my guess is that he would often be more inclined to fastplay Ak AQ or maybe just shove turn for protection from draws.

If u were deeper then it could potentially be a fold.

Hey themagic85!

I'm not folding a5 here. People overplay aq, ak too often in that spot. + there are a few fds who probably play the same way (although most of them would check behind turn)

Thank you both,

It was a shame then that he did in fact have AJ and I went broke on the hand.

Maybe if I had been at the table a little longer and able to pick up a read or two it could of turned the hand into a fold and kept me in the tournament.

I am perhaps a bit less annoyed with the call now as there is a good chance someone has overplayed their hand and if I win I am chip leader with a good shot and making final table.

Thanks again.
