I used to play, semi-professionally, up until 15 years ago or so. I learned to play about 6 months before the NHL strike in 2004. It put televised poker in everyone's living room, and I had just enough skill to eek out a living. I was much better at cash games, than online. We had a couple of soft games, that I could skim 20 to 30 bb an hour, off of.
I stopped, after a bad run, when my daughter was 2 or 3. I've played here or there, but over the last few years, I couldn't keep up with the new theory.
My daughter is off to college this year, so I have the time and energy to get back into it. I'm excited to get back into it. The only thing I'm worried about, is that I don't have the stamina of a young 20-something anymore.
Welcome back abomb1 to the online pokerscene
Wish you all the best on the tables.
What kind of poker you like to play and what room did you choose to be back?
I do best at soft NHE cash games. Particularly on Thursday evening’s (bi-weekly paydays,) and mid-day, weekdays(really tight, older players, that get upset with loser play.)
Online, I used to play, 9 tables of .01/.02 cash games.
Now, I’m focusing on .25 sit and go’s. Tournament style seems to suit my knowledge and temperament. I’m no longer a brash 20-something.
I’m playing on PokerStars. So I can enter all the free rolls, and monitor them while I play 2 tables of sit and go’s.
It’s going ok, so far. I even ended up in a $109 bounty game, through free roll satellites. I ended up 2 places out from the payout.
Do you have any advice? There’s a lot of new theory and styles out there. And I’m trying to find easy ways to build my bankroll.
