Hello everybody, I recently started playing poker on pokerstars.fr (unfortunately not too many choices in France). I play cash games and as any beginner, I started with NL2. I'm in the learning process, I found pokerstrategy.com and I find it very useful for what I have in mind.

See you on the forum!

How to get started with your poker career

First you should get familiar with the Rules of Texas Hold'em.
After that it is recommended to start browsing through our strategy articles. These articles are meant to give you more knowledge and tools to improve your game. You will get to know your first winning strategy and get familiar with basic poker maths.

Once you have the very basic knowledge, you could continue learning by watching some videos. Our coach LemOn36 has a couple of great video series for beginners: No-Limit Starter course and after that a bit more advanced Beyond The First Strategy.

A good way to improve your game is to post difficult hands to our Hand Discussion Board.

When you get to grinding, it is very important to follow proper bankroll management. You could for example go up stakes when you have 25 buy-ins for the next limit and go back to lower limit when you drop to 20 buy-ins. This is extremely important since not following a good bankroll management strategy might cost you a lot of money.

When you are starting your career, you will be overwhelmed with all the new information. You should bear in mind that getting good at poker is a long process and will not happen overnight. You should not try to learn all the advanced concepts very fast and then try to apply those. It is a good idea to start learning new things one by one. This will give you the fastest progress.
