hi i tried the sng basic hand chart from the sng section in the strategy . in some free rolls to try it out i want to know if it is valid . cuz i found my self getting pretty much blinded out of the 4 free rolls i tried . there was so long between playable hands acording to the chart . am i just unlucky . or is the chart a bit too tight ?

Well playing with that chart its no wonder if you get blinded out. Playing like this relays heavily into getting ton of action when you get/make hand. I wonder how old that chart is?

From UTG you can play tight. E.g. AQ+, ATs+, 88+ then widen into few more Ax (AT+, A7s+), pocket pairs and broadway hands coming into mid positions. From late positions any suited Ax is very playable as well as most broadway hands. Also suited connectors like 87s etc. have ton of value. Those are very rough guidelines and depends of stack depths. Like open raising less than 20bb deep with pocket pair that has to fold to 3bet is in general not advised.

This sort of approach will still keep ranges solid and get yourself into some postflop situations that bring possibilities to improve postflop play. Tighter you play preflop less problems you have postflop in general which is reason why that chart probably recommend such ultra tight ranges. But I kind of wonder if playing like that is still +EV these days even in micro stakes?

PS: If you are unfamiliar with some term I used feel free to ask.

okay i have a question then about what is +EV ? :) . im a new player in the real cash poker . i have been playing a little for play money and found out that i really like to play poker even tho im not that good at it . i then found this site and startet reading and found this chart in the sng beginner strategy :) . its a lot tighter than i usually play . but then again i think i play too loose normal so maybe i should find a middle way :) .

anyway ty for the answer i will throw this chart away and see if i can find one that is a bit looser just until i figure all the basics out .
after that i hopefully dont need a chart anyomre :)

EV stands for expected value. So basically whatever we do in poker we aim the play to have positive/better expectation compared to alternative lines. Playing on tight side is fine as beginner but that said chart you posted is still just too tight and leave too much +EV spots unused. Even if you are not confident in postflop side likely your opponents are not that good either. If they are they likely would play bigger buyin games already.

ok so if i undestand correct . ev is like pot odds and hand odds ? like if i got a5s lets say hearts and flop 2 more hearts then i have about 25 % chance of hitting a heart more giving me 1:4 and if the pot is 100 and i need to put in 20 to see next card 1:5 its +EV or am i way off in undestanding ? :)

Then you played MTT freerolls and not SNG's. Those ranges are great for a newbie.

cuz i found my self getting pretty much blinded out of the 4 free rolls

Ofc but after you are under those 12bb you have to change your strategy and the ranges.

yea i found out about the difference between mtt and sng :) . i just read it as sng (tournament) and belived that everything that was a buy in was a sng :P

but can u tell me what is the big difference from a lets say 9 man sng and a mtt like a freeroll in terms of strategy and cards to play ? mtt more loose in the beginning to build a stack to go deep or ? :)

There is rule of 2+2 when calculating equity from number of outs. So in your example we count 9 outs for making flush. That means that from flop to turn It's 2*9+2=20% and from flop to river 2*9*2+2=38%. Using that will give close enough estimation. So if we put 20 to already 100 in pot that would be 120 so we only need roughly 17% equity.

So it would be +ev indeed from direct pot odds also. Though when we draw there is also aspect of implied pot odds. This means estimating how much value there is to be gained if hitting our hand. So making the call does not need to be profitable from direct pot odds view if there is enough implied odds.
