Here you can discuss the new article: Blockbets

As an example I present you this hand:

1/2 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: Texas Grabem 1.8 by www.pokerstrategy.cc.

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with Q♦, Q♣
Hero raises to $10.00, MP3 raises to $30.00, 4 folds, Hero calls $20.00.

Flop: ($63.00) 3♠, 7♥, 7♣ (2 players)
Hero checks, MP3 checks.

Turn: ($63.00) 7♠ (2 players)
Hero bets $35, MP3 calls $35.00.

River: ($113.00) A♦ (2 players)
Hero bets $40, MP3 calls $40.00.

Final Pot: $193.00

Villain can easily hold an ace here. His hand looks like AK, AQ. But he can also have JJ, TT or another hand. We don't know whether our hand is the best hand or not since Villain could have called our turnbet also with A high. If we check, we could get bluffed out of the hand. That's why we make a 1/3 pot blockbet and fold to a raise. Maybe he calls us also with a smaller pocket pair which would mean our blockbet becomes a valuebet.

as you know i am an NL fish, but shouldn't we reraise preflop in this hand???

You can also reraise preflop but a call is also an option.

Maybe because Hero wanted to check/raise the preflopraiser. But he didn't bet (maybe because he didn't hit with his AK or AQ).

I don't know because I didn't play that hand ♦

its some weird hand. i havent read article yet but arent blockbets normally meant to be used in dangerous flush/straight boards?

as you can read in the article: "If we are out of position on the river and have a hand with showdown value, our opponent however, signals some strength, even if it was just by calling large bets, then we have the chance for a blockbet" blockbets are not only for straight/flush boards.

I think i would be to scared to call, but i depends on my stack, and his.
But i that kind of hand if i QQ i would have reised on the flop and turn.

a question about blockbets. if villain reraises you 2x or 2.5x, you have excellent pot odds to call... do you call?

No because if you decide to make a blockbet you plan to fold to a raise. Normally you only blockbet if you are not sure whether you have the best hand and want a cheap showdown. As soon as the opponent raises you are done with the hand because in those situation he would only raise with a better hand.

i dont agree pushkin, maybe he reraises in this situation trying to get us out of the hand, just like we were trying to do, or am i wrong?

It happens from time to time that players bluff us out of hands, but in general the boards where we make blockbets are scary so that bluffing won't happen that often. In this context it is important to say that you should also make blockbets (=small value bets) when you have a really strong hand so that your blockbets don't become readable.
