Lets say you are BB and holds 4 4, the MP3 raises a small ammount (0.6).
Now, in your turn, should you re-raise or just call?
I'm 3-betting because most of the time villain is folding but calling for set value is ok too I think. I'm pretty sure that 3-betting is more profitable than calling because more often than not, even if you hit your set villain is only holding a marginal hand so is unlikely to pay you off.
It depends on your opponent. If you think he's folding on your 3-bet often then it's ok to 3-bet I suppose, but you will seldomly find an opponent who folds to your 3bet on NL2. If he calls you are in unpleasant situation out of position with a hand that misses the flop most of the time.
That's why I suggest calling. If his stack is big enough you can play for set odds and bad players will pay you off often enough. If he's shortstack you should probably consider folding your small pair.

Perhaps it's different on other sites but on stars this isn't true.
Even if your 3-bet is called you still have initiative and can take most flops HU with a c-bet.
