Please critique my hand play. Am I the only one who does not get excited when I make a Set with a pair board? I love sets with my pocket pair. But Sets with a pair board have a tendency to lose to better kickers or full houses.

Sets on paired boards are full houses, don't lose to kickers. Unless you are talking about three of a kind when you hold one card and two equal value cards come on the board? I don't think that is called a set, but I'm not native English so someone will surely be able to help us on that.
As for your question, we all get excited about it, of course! But then you have to analyze who our villain is, how did the hand play out and how likely is he to have a hand that's better than out trips or how likely he is to call us with a possible worse hand - and this is what poker is most of the time, if not always.
I'm sorry if you wanted a more straight answer but it's the most I can do. Maybe share specific hands with us, see what others think, that is going to help way more! GLGL!!
When you have three same cards it is a three of a kind. If we look at poker rules or hand rankings, basically "set" is not a hand. However, generally when we are talking about sets we mean a situation where we have a pocket pair. When there is a pair on the board and it connects with one of cards we have, we call those trips.
Both of them are strong hands but it is true that with trips you should be a bit more cautious.
Thanks for explaining the difference between a Set and Trips. Sorry, I thought that I included a hand example. But, I still got the answers that I needed from la55i and bookai.
There's times when you know your trip is not anymore the best hand and has high chances to be beaten. Mostly, like when there's in the table left just a card to complete the flush or the straight (whith the straight more depending the villain rank). I hate when this happens π
