Question on flush draw

I was reading an article on odds and outs in the strategy section and something wasn't clear to me. (I also want to check my work with the following example).

In the paragraph under the last diagram, it says "This means that in one of these 5 cases you win $12. In the other four cases you will lose $2 respectively".

When you call the $2, on average after five occasions you have lost $2 four times and won $10 once. Your total profit, which is calculated by profit - deficit, is thereby at $10 - $8 = $2.

Did the author make a mistake with how he/she worded this or am I understanding it incorrectly?

At the end of the article, author explains when villain bets $4 in to pot of $8.
This is based on the same example with hero with a flush draw facing a different bet size.
Villain bet $4
Pot $12
Hero $12: $4 = 3:1

1 out of 5 win $12 = +$12
4 out of 5 Lose $4 = - $4 x 4 = -$16

-4/5 = 0.80
Hero loses $0.80 on average.

Hi Recess64,

The results of those examples are correct. It is indeed a bit weird where did the 12$ come from that is mentioned in the paragraph above.
If the pot is 8$ and villain bets 2$ --> the pot will be 10$ and you will be winning that.
