In several articles on this sites, they recommend to raise as follows:
Raise = Pot (including the current betting round) + 2 * opponent's bet.
Is there any particular reason to raise to such an amount (quite high imho)?

This is called a potsize raise, it gives your opponent pot odds of exactly 2:1.
When you raise potsize and your opponent calls even with a strong draw, he is usually making a big mistake and playing against the odds.
