How to play flush draws

When we have the option to bet or check our flush draws which one should we bet more and which one should we check more? Hands that draws to nutty hands tend to prefer to build the pot, and so I would guess I want to bet the higher card flush draws more often than the weaker ones. On the other hand the weaker flush draws benefits more from fold equity and that would be a reason to bet those more often. A high flush draws may be special since they may have som showdown value and would therefore benefit from checking.

How should I wrap my brain around this problem?

I prefer to bet them if I have FE.

If villain(s) is more of a caller, I prefer to check and bet large if/when hit, knowing that I'll be paid.
If villain(s) is more aggro, I like to bet against his check, as a check from an aggro signals some extra FE.

Other than that, draw to nuts will depend if I count my possible pairs enough to win the hand or not, if I can win it without improving (if villain is also running).
