sent you a friends request DukeXIII.

I think been playing BBS for about 8 months and during those 8 months I have played at least 100k hands (different poker rooms so not sure if all is included).

This includes a failed attempt at NL20 partly because of tilt and party because I choose to move up during a time where I had lots of other things to think about, exams etc. I think I ended up around break even in the end but choose to move down because I didn't feel I was ready.

After my failed attempt I have tried to harness my skills by reading articles, watching videos and attending coaching.

However, I feel that these mediums doesn't really help much anymore, and would really need to discuss with other players in order to improve further.

currently studying at uni and its my last semester so have a lot of time at my disposal, and usually spend at least a few with poker everyday.

oh I play FR but could easily switch if everyone else is playing SH, and start playing nl5 or something to get used to it.

I really like the idea of a small but active group.

we would really get to know each other and we can set up goals, and help and push each other to reach them.

personally I would really benefit from sweat sessions and we could have sessions where we just break down each others games into basics and question every move.

Hello sandymanufan.

Are you playing SH or FR? How many hands approximately you have in this limit? We haven't choose a name yet. Actually I didn't even thought that we could have a name for the group. But maybe this would be fun. We could call ourselves............ Fantastic 6 for example!!! ................................... :f_confused: :f_confused: :f_confused:................................. ......... I m definitely still having a hangover from saturday night.

hey duke.
i play SH.
and i have just about beaten the limit.
played 54k hands over the past on e and a half months and won about 533$.thats 10bb/100 hands approx.
looking to improve a bit before i move up.

Hello everybody!

Finally I came up with the list of the members who will consist the new group. It took me a bit to reach my final decision since I didn't want to disappoint anyone which is not possible of course in these cases. So at least I wanted to make the best possible decisions.
For those who are in I m really looking forward to work with you guys. For those who didn't make it though I would like to remind you that you don't need to be disappointed, since you can easily create another group with people who where already interested in this thread or new ones and join the benefits of a team work.

So here is the list:

jokes aside, great ideas and here is how I would implement them.

videos

I don't really like 1a because lets say I watched a video were some coach said 3bet xx for value but its very situational. I start to 3bet xx all the time and tell you guys that this coach said you should etc.
If we instead use option 1b/c we can discuss what should be learned from the video (i.e. 3bet xx when villain is a ___., or villain has raised x amount of times therefore his range is so wide we can 3bet xx for value here). That way we can also make sure everyone are on a similar level of thinking and the more experienced can explain why we should do this or that.

if we do it as a whole group or as divide it doesn't matter for me. it may be difficult to get all to be online at the same time but if we use skype the person who missed the meeting can go back in the log and add or ask questions about it when they have time.

Practice

I think this is were the focus should be and where we will see the result of the studies. As you mentioned Duke, we will play different ways even though both can be correct. However seeing each others way of playing and thinking will help us both. And even though I might not implement someones suggestions into my play knowing and talking about it will help.

I think live sweat sessions with the whole group (or those online) will be better than to record videos because that way we can discuss hands and different ways of playing as they happen. having a sweat session with 5+ ppl would be very interesting because there would be so many playing styles, different lines to take and so much to discuss.

The sweat session and a large part of the hand evaluation, and also a lot of theory discussion can be done as we go with whoever online. I'm guessing someone will be online after 5-6pm European time everyday so hopefully there will be something going on almost everyday.

For me it would be enough to meet once or twice a week to discuss videos, the most interesting hands, review and set up new goals. All days but Fridays and Saturdays are generally good for me. I currently live in Asia so best time for me would be somewhere around 5-10pm European time.

Hey

Agree with ollehut on the videos. think 1b is probably the best way of doing it. That way we can make sure everyone understands everything and is on the same wavelength.

With practice if anyone is up for it I think it might be a bit of fun to have prop bets between each other in terms of volume? Know everyone has different commitments and plays diff no of tables but say I was hoping to play 10k in a week then I might put up $2 or something small...

I spoke to you about the videos already and it's one thing I'd like to do. Maybe like 15-20mins might be enough? I realise we might not be the best players! But still will have some positive input, and even if it's just asking each other to explain some plays. I had a coaching and one hand I remember I made the right play but for the wrong reasons. He asked me to explain a few other things and my response was just: 'eh eh eh I don't know...'. The one time I had an answer it was 'I don't want to play oop'. Obv he asked me why - was villan aggro postflop etc etc... Again I didn't know. Might sound stupid but him just asking those simple questions really helped me. As ollehut says we all play different ways but I feel being able to clearly explain our plays and our thought process will help ourselves and others in the group.

Never done a sweat session so wouldn't know but prob would get the same result too and might would be easier with a bigger group because it would take time to get through everyone if we were making videos. Then during a session we can always mark hands and come back to them after.

That's just my two cents.

Hi everyone!

About the videos
I like option "B" more. When everyone watches the same video we get different views on the video. That leads to healthy discussions and learning experience. I see it a bit like this:

  1. We all watch the same video
  2. We all take our notes
  3. We get together to chat about the video
  4. Someone says the time of the video where he/she made his/here first note.
  5. We go to that point in the video and discuss the action.

Well thats what I was thinking. So let the comments come!

About the sweat sessions
I've had sweat sessions before. It's a nice thing to do, but not with to many people. We are with 8 and if 1 dude is playing and we are with 7 watching/discussing his play that would be total chaos! The game goes to fast to really discuss the play.

About the video's of each other
I like the idea. If we all make a small video (small being 30' - 60'). Then we could just swap video's. Everyone watches a video of someone else and makes notes. Then we come together and the person who made the notes sais at what time he made a note. Then everyone goes to the video and discuss the action. Maybe not all the 'interesting action' gets covered because a person might miss a hand. But still I think this is a good way of working.

About the frequency
Not sure about this. I think if we meet to many times in a week our mind can process all that information. But I think this is more a case of trail and error.

About time in the day
I'm usually online from 18:30 - 19:00 till 00:00 - 01:00 and this from sunday till thursday. On friday, saturday and sometimes sunday I'm with my gf and then I don't play/study.

I'm looking forward to get working with you guys!

Regards
