In my opinion you can mainly generalise winning player's edge, given you are competent enough at the stakes you play. Of course there are exceptions but the basic pattern i think is more or less correct.
Micro/Low stakes - People play way too loose and tilt a lot and a lot of your edge comes from that, more so than any strategy or in depth knowledge of the game. Kind of go TAG and win thing.
Mid Stakes - Your edge comes from people playing way too tight, aka nits since thats where most of them live and also strict discipline ( brm.., tilt control etc, grinding ability...)
High Stakes - Most of the edge comes from "unique" talent and in-depth knowledge of the game and the statistical numbers involved behind it, as well as the ability to use that knowledge within seconds when required.
I might of course be wrong and just totally talking rubbish 
My edge is that I understand that I really suck at poker.
So, I learn.
I have EGO, which I want to kill.
I bet most of people don't have EGO problems in their opinion.
That's a mistake. Only way to correct it is to understand how much you really suck at poker. 
Overcoming one's ego is indeed a big step towards objective playing, which would be more optimal by far.

Why do u have an edge? If you want to gain the edge in poker you need to do the following, learn strategy, pot odds when to call, fold or raise based on the pot, money management and position strategy.

I am not the best poker player, I'm rarely the best at a table but I have an edge because I have found the format that suits my style best and offers the least exposure to my turn/river leaks.
I short/mid stack, short handed .25/.50nl. Never have enough on the table to tilt me from a bad beat, happy to shove on a flip, mix it up so much that my stats are fairly maniac and regs leave the table as soon as I turn up and fish get sick of me quick and my premium hands get paid.
I play $100 dollars for fun most weekends, if I lose I'm out and I withdraw when I quadruple up which happens about half the time for several months now. I am running quite hot but at some point (if this goes on) I'll have to consider I have an edge even though I'm not that good, hardly ever fold top pair on the flop, usually just get it in, nothing fancy, regular semi bluff shoves and don't call much, simples.
This doesn't work at .5/1nl, so if I want to move up it will require a total rethink but for now I'm happy.
