This sounds like I'm levelling but I can assure you it happened:

The action at Patrick's table just went raise, 3-bet before the small blind 4-bet cold.

Patrick then cold 5-bet shoved and got the table to fold, offering to show the table one card. The small blind picked and was shown a 6.

I have it on good authority that the second card was a 3.

pleno1 is up to 17k or so it looks like.

Julien Le Bars, French PokerStrategy.com coach ("Julien"), has around 40,000 in chips (double starting stack).

He had 7 :club:5 in the big blind and flopped 2 :club:3 :club:4 :diamond:, the money went in versus 4 :heart:4 on the T turn and he avoided a paired board to double up.

pleno1 has around 20,000

We're approaching the end of the 100/200/25 blind level.

Players are on a 15 minute break. Blinds will be 150/300/25 when we return to the felt.

We have 134 players remaining from 165 starting, meaning that the prize pool so far is €241.5k.

Day 1b allows re-entries and is expected to be a larger field.

We're back in action.

I'm going to rail Patrick and Julien to try and spot some interesting hands.

Patrick has roughly the average stack of 28k right now at 200/400/50.

I just came to a hand, missing the preflop action but Patrick was OOP and had 3,000 over the line so I presume he 3-bet.

The flop came Q :heart:4 :diamond:6 and Patrick bet around 4k, getting a call and bringing the pot to about 15k.

He stuck it in on the 2 turn and got a pretty quick fold from his opponent. He wrote down his hole cards on his phone but since he mucked his hand I won't post them here. Who wants to try and guess what he had?

A couple of random hands to report to show the quality of the field that our guys are up against:

There's an UTG raise to 825 at 150/300 and two players call. The BB 3-bets... to 15,000. This was evidently not a mistake. It folds to the SB, who flicks his chips in with AJo and finds himself up against a dominating AK. He hits the rail and the BB increases his chips to over 70k.

Another hand saw a calling station (at Patrick's table) increase his stack to more than 75k after calling three barrels with KJo on a board of 4 :club:5 :club:6 :heart:K :diamond:7

There's a fine line between a genius and a donkey; I'm not sure which side of said line this man is treading but in this instance it worked out nicely for him.

Julien seems to have around 30k or so and doesn't look too happy about it but he's above average with almost 80 BBs.

Sorry guys, our favourite LAG is out.

He raised with JJ and got 3-bet by an aggressive player. He clicked it back and then his opponent 5-bet shoved A9. Patrick called but the ace hit the flop to take out a chunk of his stack.

A few hands later, he got it in with 88 and ran into 99 with the ace-high board providing no help. GG pleno1 ♠_cry:

He has just re-entered for Day 1b though so fingers crossed he can spin it up!

Tomorrow is another day

We are now at blinds of 250/500/50 with 108 players remaining in the Day 1a field.

The average stack is approximately 30.4k, or just under 75 big blinds.

Julien is still in and right around the average stack.

We have just begun the final level of the night, 300/600/75.

There are 90 players remaining with Day 1a.

Play has ended for the day with the conclusion of the 300/600/75 level.

There are 69 players remaining from the Day 1a field of 166.

Julien is still alive, having made it to Day 2, but comes back with a stack of 22k:

Julien: Nothing happened! J2o happened, 95o happened, 63o happened... in one of the last hands I was dealt 77 and saw a flop with the best hand I'd seen for hours. I called a c-bet on 235r because my hand is likely good but then a player check-raised both of us and I was forced to fold. What can you do?

So we have our French coach returning with a reshove stack and pleno1 will re-enter tomorrow.

For Day 1b we expect a much larger field including re-entries and many more PokerStrategists, staff and "friends of PokerStrategy" to report on.
