It doesn't try to terrify you with any stuff about how bad it is for you etc, every smoker knows that already. It just kinda makes you feel rly pumped up with positive energy about nicotine free life, logically denies all justifications we have for ourselves why smoking is nice and quitting becomes rly easy.

But why did you smoke in the first place? You've mentioned that you've started smoking again because of depression, what about the first time?

Dunno rly, my family was all smokers so I guess I just kinda thought that's what I'm supposed to do as well. I started at the young age so there was no need to have a reason to do something.

Now I'm just punishing myself with smoking no matter how retarded this reasoning sounds. :f_biggrin:

Then, you can have a serious problem if there's no-one to hold you accountable. By the way, congratulations on taking action! How do those walks feel? What do you think about during them?

I managed to squeeze into a 10 minute gap without the heavy rain. The moment i stepped inside it started pouring again though. Felt good that I confronted it and still did my walk.
To be honest, I haven't really reflected on what I'm thinking. It feels good though to get out there and just let everything else be set aside. Thinking about changing to a jog though and extend my route a little. But it's really nice to get some routine.

Starting every morning with a big glass of water and some kind of egg breakfast as well. Really need to drink more water, so I will make sure that's something I will stick to.

I haven't finished reading your 1st post because I like to have some clarification on the question 1.1 vision: "What do you value the most in other people"?

Just to make sure .. isn't it a bit too general to say "other people"? because according to me that would exist of different "categories" such as parents, family, friends, girlfriends(s) , acquaintances, strangers, etc. and I'm quite sure that what I value the most for each "category" (slightly) differs.

In other words, is it ok to categorize them and write down what I value the most for each category? Also, just to make sure once again ... Can I give as many values I like? or should I stick to one value/answer only since you refer to "the most value"? hehe ..

btw.. or did you actually really meant "in general"?

Greetzz and thx again for this awesome thread! :P

Hey there,

I've added an example of a vision statement on the first page, under "vision". I see that many people strive with making the vision statement long. So they make it short, while they should be making it as long and as detailed as possible. The better you see your goal, the faster you will get there. A longer vision statement will motivate you way more.

To answer your question: Of course different values might be important in different areas of our lives. You will probably expect people in your work environment to have integrity, your friends to be encouraging and show empathy and compassion, your life partner to be honest... But you will see that these values also connect with other areas of your life. You will like to see integrity in friends and family as well, it just might not be as important. And you will want your boss to care a little bit about you, although not as much as your life partner.

There is no wrong vision statement. The more detail you write, the better it will be. Remember, those questions are there to help you identify your values. While this might be a little confusing, by knowing what you expect from others, you can also know what you expect from yourself. So write about yourself and how you want to affect different areas of your life... You can separate the statement into more parts of course. For example, you can write about how you want to influence your family, how do you want to act at work, etc.

The short answer: it is ok for you to categorize values, it is ok to write as many as you like.

Had around a 45-60minute private coaching with Schnitzelfisch today, and the way he teaches things shows that if he follows these steps then you are on the right track todo so.. He must useful points are the action steps to actualy get a foot out of the door.. For instance, if someone was to say for the very first time..
make a cup of tea.. you read it and are like.. ok i know that, but how do i make it.. whereas with the action steps it tells you how todo things about productivity and general life goals.

Found it very helpful, thanks.

That's great to hear, keep it up! An egg breakfast is really good because it will suppress your hunger for a while. Eggs are one of the best meals you can eat because of their quality protein and fats. Although adding some veggies or eating a piece of fruit besides them will make such breakfast even better ;).

Thank you for the compliments and you are welcome!

Good news, everyone! I've found more time today and added the chapter on proper breaks, including mindless tasks. I hope you find them helpful!

And I would also like to say that it feels amazing to be able to help people change, so keep it up and don't give up! Anyone can change. If you're having some troubles, or you've found some of my strategies useful, please post a reply so that the other people who might still be sceptic can see that change is possible :).

Again, thanks for letting me help you :).

The weekend update is here, and it's a long one :).

I've written the following chapters:

5. Energy vs. Time
5.1 Tracking time spending
5.2 Limiting time wasted on surfing
5.3 Checking your e-mails

I am going to be a bit busy over the next couple of days, so the next update is most likely coming out on Tuesday. You should however feel free to ask any questions here and I'll try to make some time to answer them :).

Enjoy your weekend!

thanks for writing all this!

I'd appreciate if you could answer the following questions, thanks:

a.) I am currently eating 2-3 apples, 4-5 strawberries, a pepper and some carrots for breakfast + drinking water. You said limiting fruits to 2-3 pieces a day so would that be too much fruit for breakfast?

b.) What is your take on protein shakes as a supplement? As you can see above I am not eating protein sources in the morning atm (I'm too lazy to make me eggs ;) ) so would it be cool to mix my breakfast with a shake?

How about one protein shake in the morning and another shake 1 hour or so before sleep? I'm still trying to eat lean meat and fish every day but to make sure I get enough protein I'd have the shakes.

c.) I've found that masturbation drastically lowers the ''natural'' energy level. It also has negative impact on the quality of sleep in my experience. Do you know anything about how masturbation can affect your energy level?

Best regards

Not sure if serious, but if you are then:

Many men seem to notice that. I'd advice to stop doing that, especially if you watch porn too. http://yourbrainonporn.com/doing-what-you-evolved-to-do Ejaculating after sexual intercourse is much more pleasurable anyway. And masturbation has other negative impacts other than lowering energy levels. You have no stimulus to get a gf since doing a bit of wanky wanky seems much easier and brain doesn't rly tell the difference anyway. Sex less pleasurable. And you can get ED while trying to perform with an actual woman.

there's a lot of stories on the site written by people who stopped doing that and their lives improved greatly, they became more energetic, confident, found themselves a gf. (even one guy who was 40 or smth and still virgin)

here's one well written for example: http://yourbrainonporn.com/age-23-metamorphosis-into-chick-magnet

Btw, not sure why it's affecting your sleep tho. Most men after ejaculating actually fall asleep faster because you get a rush of chemicals into your brain that make you sleepy etc. So you could recover. I'm actually the same tho, it's rly hard for me to fall asleep after sexual intercourse.

Btw, this is a pretty cool book for people who want to become animals in bed and yet have high energy levels.

Hey there,

a) A whey protein shake can be a great protein source in the morning because after your body has been starving the whole night, it needs fast-absorbing protein, and a whey protein shake is exactly that. You can combine it with water, milk or yoghurt and add some fruit + nuts to it to get a great meal.

Just be careful with protein shakes - make sure you buy them in specialized fitness stores and not supermarkets or via multi-level marketing companies like herbalife because you will get way better quality and cheaper shakes in fitness stores.

b) In the evening, I would actually suggest a "meal replacement" protein shake. These are not made of pure whey but are a mixture of other proteins as well, such as caseine, which absorbs slower than whey protein, and therefore gives you more nutrients throughout the night. The problem with pure whey is that it is absorbed too fast and isn't really helpful in the evening - eggs/fish + veggies are a way better option. But as I said, a meal replacement protein shake is good as well.

Also make sure that you don't buy soy protein as the non-animal protein has a worse amino-acid structure than animal protein.

c) I'm sorry, but I haven't researched this area yet. NightfrostaSS does have some interesting points and links however ;). In my opinion, frequent sexual intercourse is definitely beneficial for you (it's exercise + satisfies your needs), I can't be sure about masturbation though.

Best regards,

Hello! Real nice guide so far. I especially liked the idea of preparing the project open for the morning. I often used to wake up full of energy and motivation to do something but my first morning task used to be checking various entertainment sites, like fml, reddit, etc and that killed the working mood.

Anyway, my biggest problem is caffeine. I read the section for it but I still don't see how I could get rid of this habit. Maybe because I don't really suffer the problems you mentioned. I sleep very well, I don't experience energy break downs after it wears off, on the whole I don't really feel much difference but a few - it makes the usual boring grinding go way faster and as you mentioned it motivates me do things with a smile on my face. I've recently tried and liked guarana powder which essentially has the same effect but is healthier. Would you still suggest that I should cut off any stimulating substances?

And another thing, you mentioned a glass of wine as a possible reward. I'm used to think that any amount of alcohol won't do any good. Would you recommend having a bit of wine, a bottle of beer or glass of something stronger while descreening before sleeping? I sometimes find it hard to not think about poker after a swingy day, maybe this would help.

Regarding the caffeine... That's quite interesting. Well, in general, I would still advise against the consumption of caffeine. If you are doing fine without it, then I do not see much of a reason to consume it at all. It's as if you were taking pills to cure a disease but weren't sick. As I said, it can be beneficial for sports performance, but I have not seen any studies that would show that it improves performance at work.

Regarding the guarana, it's certainly a less unhealthy option than coffee. I'm not exactly sure what you were comparing it to, but of course it has the same effects as caffeine as it contains caffeine ;). As far as I know, there aren't however any nutrients in guarana that would benefit your health - the only effective nutrient in it is caffeine, which as I have already mentioned before can be beneficial if you were a sportsman or perhaps for losing weight as well since it speeds up the metabolism.

You could also compare caffeine to revving a car engine into the high rpm. Do you think that is good for the car or not? Surely, it gives it very good performance in short periods of time, but it's control will be worse and it will likely break down sooner than a car which you don't push to the limits.

But since it seems to work for you, it is really up to you. I would suggest trying to stay off caffeine for a month and then decide whether you still want to consume it or not. It might be that the effects caffeine has on you are there simply because when you do not consume it, your body misses it and you feel like you have less motivation and everything is more boring. So if you stayed away from it for a couple of weeks, you would feel motivated and not bored again - without caffeine.

Regarding the alcohol, I agree with you - alcohol won't do any good. I definitely do not recommend alcohol. Neither do I recommend consuming sweets. But if for example you really like good wine or single malt whiskey or good cocktails, or maybe muffins, cupcakes, Belgian chocolate... it's still better that you drink them from time to time, in moderation, and stick to a healthy life style the rest of the time than taking away all the things you like.

Because some people might suffer too much if they stop eating/drinking everything they like and this might make them depressed, which then leads into a completely unhealthy lifestyle again.

To answer your question, it might help. The only way to find out is for you to try it ;). Just make sure you keep it in moderation. If you do not want to be thinking about poker in the evening because it causes you to have sleeping problems, there are also other solutions. Have you tried reading a book or a magazine in the evening? Non-fiction, scientific articles/books tend to work really good on putting your mind to sleep.

Another good way to focus your thoughts away from what has happened throughout the day would be meditation. I will describe a couple of meditation techniques later in the guide, but I really recommend you to read the book "The power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle.

P.S. Are you sure that the fact that you cannot relax and stop thinking about poker is not correlated to the consumption of caffeine? Because caffeine can very well do just that - send signals to your mind that it has to constantly think about something or do something.

I hope I helped, if you should have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Best regards,

-SF

Thank you, Falco35 :). I would share the thread with other communities as well but I am afraid that some people might consider it as spam. But if some of you have found the guide useful, feel free to post a link to this thread in any other language Pokerstrategy community forums, and/or share it with your friends.

What else is new? It's Tuesday and as promised, a new update is here :). Today, I've covered the following topics:

6. Clearing your head + Stress removal
6.1 Brainstorming

It should be quite a nice read. The next update will come in a couple of days, most likely on Friday evening or early Saturday, so that you have enough time to apply these topics, and then apply the next ones over the weekend. If possible, plan to make a couple of hours of your time for the action steps in the next update.

As always, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask them.
