Hi all !

My name is Alin and 2 years ago (+ - couple of days) I started playing poker.
In June, last summer, my roll was ~500$ (pretty bad for one year, but I was very busy with uni - aka last year).

Since last summer until this march, I played cash games up to 30NL. After winning a tournament and grinding micros, my BR reached 3k$. Unfornately, thanks to my often withdraws, I've started the year with 1k, playing 25NL.

By this time I was in the middle of my biggest downswing (~60k hands under EV) and if that wasn't enough, my brother got very ill. Since february until may, he spent most of his time in hospital and undergo 4 surgeries.

All this real life problems made me put poker aside and feel the need for a change. So I've decided to start playing 180man turbo SNGs with 300 BIs.

I have another blog on the romanian comunity, but this one will be more organized. The purpose of this blog is to keep track of my progress and I hope it will motivate me better.
Another reason is that I haven't been speaking english for 5 years or so and I 've become real bad at it. But I understand very well ♦ (common problem for english listeners I think).

So please, correct me when my english becames horrible and when my game really sux :f_cool:

That's a tough break for your brother, I really do hope he gets well.
Obvoiusly poker takes a back seat when these things happen, so make sure your mind is right before starting again, ok? :)

As for your English, if you speak it as well as you write it, you will do just fine! ♠_cool:
A small pointer for you, in your last line you say; 'I let you..' but it should say ' I leave you...' :)

Tx gadget and oh, cool nickname ♦

This is my 1$ 90man graph so far. I'm playing overrolled, but I prefer this than being overconfident at 2.5$ 180man. At the last ones, I'm -100$ so there it's BE so far.

I forgot to mention that I'm a hard working guy (at poker at leat). Everyday I'm doing like 3-4 hours of improving in SNG Wiz, videos, hand reviews etc.
But I've hit a barrier and I'm hoping you can help: I've heard that doing very light pushes or very light calls isn't that good because of our edge. But I think our edge comes from taking thin values, so it's kinda messing with my mind this concept.

Anyway, are you usually doing pushes for 1/5 of a bb profit? In other words, it's correct to "push the edges " ?

Imo, pushing light = OK, calling light = bad because people won't shove as light as they should and also not call correctly.

What you said about a 0.2bb EV play is OK for cash games and very structure dependent for SNGs. In cash you should always take any edge since it increases winrate while in SNGs it could decrease winrate.

You are being silly grinding MT SNGs imo. You have experience in cash and could quickly grind back to NL25.

I still have roll for 25. Grinding MT SNGs is probably a mood right now, but it feels good playing smth else for a while.

I've decided recently to follow Gordon's 6max program and the first step is to blog for 60 days, without a break. For 2 weeks I've postponed this post, because I wanted to be 100% that this is what I really want. After a one year break, things move more slowly:D.

So, my first idea was to start a new blog. But because I think the things that happend to us in the past shape us, I don't want to erase and "start over". I don't even think there is such thing as "start over".

Right now I play nl5/nl10 zoom and normal tables, for about 2-3h a day. My goal is to do my daily homework, play 1k+ hands and study 1h, every day for 60days, no break. I have a regular job also, so this won't that easy as it sounds.

I'll write my first homework in 2h or so, just wanted to make a "nooby" post first ♦

The majority of these hands I would've folded in the past. Why? I knew the numbers, I knew it was mathematically +EV, so why didn't I do it?
Because I've implemented without thinking things like "you CO range should be wider than SB range". If a move is +EV, just do it !

This was a hand where i thought at that moment that I can call. i didn't see what value hand he can play like this, but I folded because I will have stronger hands in range for calling and it's nl10, so people do random sh%t .

Homework.
I raised again very much from SB and againg it worked. I have a steal success % of 73%, so it's a 100% open.

Vs. some types of villains, today I tried limping in SB. Can't say I'm very comfortable with that.

Played 1k hands today, but i think I'll play another session at regular tables.
I played zoom in the past and faced the swings, so I don't play zoom if I have less than 40bis for a limit.

DAY 5

Today was a really nice day poker wise. Played 1k hands, studied 2h or so, plus I had some time to relax.

Last night I ended playing 2 tables on another platform and got coolered when I was deep-ish vs a fish + spewing another stack so I withdraw from there and only play on Pokerstars from now on. I played so long on PS that i have problems adjusting correctly vs regs on other fishier sites. And when I'm getting coolered vs fish and spewing vs regs, my motivation drops down and I don't need that.

As I said, I studied today preflop ranges vs. SB steal. I've taken a default 30% steal from SB and creating ranges vs 70% fold to 3bet and 50% fold to 3bet. I've hit a dead spot in my logic and I need another opinion on some spots. Some problems resolve, another comes out. Just normal, I suppose.

I don't have hands from today session where i defend BB vs SB according to my gamplan, but hoppefully will find some tomorrow.

This was a very nasty one. I overbet flop 'cause his a fish and will call with Kx and FDs. I observed that recreational players from here like to call very light so my thought was to get more value. But when overbetting, I didn't considered the scenario when he raises me, so when I was in front of the fact, I didn;t know what decision was the best. He might have some weaker Kx or A:s+a pair, but i don't know for sure.

I don't cbet because he'll call me once on this board very often. he has Qx, 2nd p and FDs. if I'd had some equity, I think I can cbet and probably 2nd barrel on some turns.
When he checks back OTT, he's range is 90% 2nd p. When he calls he might have JJ, TT and i think he folds <99. Having these thoughts now, I think it's better to shove river then ch/calling. But probably more +EV is to ch/f the river.
At the moment, I searched him and decided to call if he's a reg (or hidden from search)

I didn't play today, but I understood better how to construct ranges and why the ranges are as they are.

Things I learned today:
- when defending in Bb vs SB, we can call wider because:

we have position
we have odds (depending on steal sizing)
we have edge (hopefully ♦)

- when and what% do we 3bet vs SB
my conclusions: we can't 3bet with a frequency bigger than he can fold
ex. if he folds 60% of his opening range, we can't 3bet bluff with more than 60% of our 3bet range. basically, what goes up 60% enters his defending vs 3bet range and the we loose money with % bigger than 60%.
There's a lot of percentages, but I think my logic is good.

Our GTO ranges of 3bet should be 1:1 (value and bluffs), but according to Gordon's "assumption on how people play at your limit", I think I'll be 65% bluff and 35% value (of my 3bet range), 'cause people fold alot vs 3bets.

DAY 7

The first month of this challenge is complete. Game wise it's ok, but volume is very low. But I can't improve that with much, because of my full time job. The maximum I can put is 35-40k hands a month playing zoom and 30k playing regular tables. I'll work harder in the future and see where that goes.

WR for this month.

SB and BB winrate until now (last 2 month or so)

I'll try until next month to bring Bb closer to BE.

If I'll concentrate better next month on 3bet ranges and some postflop situations, I think the redline will improve. I must talk to myself more when playing and justify why I'm making this or that decision. It works for me ♦

Today was the 8th day and I decided I'll have a break. Last two weaks i was very busy at work and constantly went to sleep at 12am and waking up at 7.30 am. Basically, I didn't take no time to relax, just work, go home and play poker. So today's break felt really good and I drank a couple of beers with some co-workers.
So more poker related stuff tomorrow.

DAY 9

Sick day graph-wise today. In the first part I felt real good at the tables, thinking every hand, paying atention and taking notes. Tooked a 10min break 'cause I had so much action that I was autopiloting.

Return fresh for the first 10mins, but I auto alot and wasn't paying that much atention.

OTF, I see no reason to 3bet. with such a small bet, he'll be bluffing alot and with my BDs+ HC I can play reasonable amount of turns. OTT, again, I could've raised, but didn't want to fold my equity when re-raise and when he bets 1/2, I don't think he'll be firing river. On a J+ river I bet between 1/2 - 2/3, and on a blacnk river I think i can pot or overbet small.

Here I'm trying a new play. i read about it on the forum and was curious if it ever works. I think in 3b pot is a very good play, but in normal pots u loose "value" when bet 1/3 flop, 1/3 turn and small 2/3 on the river, comparing to 2/3 , 2/3 and small 1/2+. If I know he's folding the river, why not bet big on flop and turn and make a small bluff on river?

But OOP in 3bet pots, with smaller SPR, I think it's a play worth mentioning.

Today I'm gonna play 5k hands without looking at winnings until the end of the day. Will have breaks after each 2h session and I hope I'll play at least 3 sessions. Hoping for the best ♦
