Could I have got away with this or did the cards play themselves?

Just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on this hand.
Should I have just called his raise and left myself with 14bbs or just jam?
The guy had a vpip of 38 but only over 24hands.
I figured just get it in pre with so much money in the pot.

With 23BB I don't see how you can get away from this hand. Maybe I would consider against total nit, but only consider and still stick the money in.

The spot is very easy and you should always push here. Your stack isn't good for postflop action. Furthermore you will get problems on Axx boards for example. By pushing preflop you avoid these situations.
