I had similar issues moving from NL2 to NL5. What sorted it for me was finding NL4 and NL6.
NL4 was just double the bet sizes and the blinds were just double. This thinking helped me avoid the "thats $x to call" and let me look at "thats 8bb to call".
Going to NL6 was easier again as the blinds and therefore the bets didn't even double so the bets seemed reasonable.
