OK - I just remember the short session, as it was the first time I met you, Boomer, at the tables, and that I found you trying to isolate and me being so lucky to get the cards to 3-bet most of them and and flops to barrel off making a nice profit myself (dont have the numbers here). Also I remember myself doing a hopeless try to check/raise the river on a KQT9x river with AJ. Still hating myself for that one, which probably made you laugh big time wondering if I had understood anything of the Micro Sergury series ;-)

Yeah got 3-bet a lot that session, started almost taking it personally :(

I do remember you saying you hated a play you made at one point, was that the AJ hand?

Yes - that was the AJ hand. You didnt think I played it correct, did you? I dont remember the exact action in the hand, but I remember myself thinking - what on earty could he ever try to bluff me with. As far as I remember we was pretty loose passive. To the c/r I would either face a raise because he had lonely J, or he would check behind with almost everything else. I would raise the river anyway. If I am wrong, maybe you could find the hand and analyze it?

The rest of the session, I was perfectly happy with - but that doesnt mean that I didnt suck :) The AJ hand was one where, as I remember, you tried to isolate the loose-passive limp from BTM, and I 3-bet from SB.

hehe

Update really is "Spent the last 3 days pouring over a ton of MtG footage from tournaments I've been at and produced somewhere in the region of 50 videos to go up today on Youtube"

Will have a more complete update a little later once I've got my head screwed back on from that...yeesh

What a month...yeessh.

Anyway, got cracking on w/ the challenge today and actually took my first (slightly naughty but the tables were really good) little shot at 1/2 and managed to turn a nice little earner

Got some video editting work tonight so unlikely I'm gonna jump back in but I suppose I should show this...

Poker Stars, $1/$2 Limit Hold'em Cash, 5 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Preflop: Hero is MP with K T
Hero raises, 3 folds, BB calls

Flop: (4.5 SB) Q J A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Turn: (3.3 BB) 4 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

River: (5.3 BB) A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Results:

Spoiler

7.3 BB pot (0.3 BB rake)
Final Board: Q J A 4 A
BB mucked 3 3 and lost (-3.5 BB net)
Hero showed K T and won 7 BB (3.5 BB net)

RRRRROOOOOYYYAAAALLLLL!!!!

That's how you take shots brother!!! :f_biggrin: :f_biggrin:

Also that's some calldown, I don't get any respect :f_frown:

Made up for this a little earlier:

Poker Stars, $0.50/$1 Limit Hold'em Cash, 5 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Preflop: Hero is BTN with Q Q
MP calls, CO raises, Hero 3-bets, SB folds, BB calls, MP calls, CO calls

Flop: (12.5 SB) T 3 7 (4 players)
BB bets, MP folds, CO raises, Hero 3-bets, BB calls, CO calls

Turn: (10.8 BB) 2 (3 players)
BB bets, CO calls, Hero raises, BB calls and is all-in, CO calls

River: (16.8 BB) 4 (3 players, 1 is all-in)
CO checks, Hero bets, CO folds

Results:

Spoiler

16.8 BB pot (0.4 BB rake)
Final Board: T 3 7 2 4
BB showed 7 4 and won 16.4 BB (11.4 BB net)
CO mucked and lost (-5 BB net)
Hero showed Q Q and lost (-5 BB net)

Overall I've been a tiny bit disappointed in the way 0.5/1 has gone so far, sure I've won enough (at about 2.4BB/100) to take shots at 1/2 in a small sample size due to having a ridiculous schedule atm but I've felt like treading through molasses at times, I don't know.

Should be a lot more updates this week plus a little something something for y'all to enjoy. I may call it "Monday Night Spew!!" :)

Happy Easter Everyone, I hope that you're all going to be filled with chocolate tomorrow :)

And the clocks go forward in the UK tomorrow too....nooooo my beauty sleep!!

I keep plodding along atm but I've really got to start getting my focus back, with so much on recently I've not been as focused as I want to be and it does occasionally get to me and becasue I've not been focused and playing as much as I want individual sessions can get to me a lot more than they should.

2013's not been a great year so far, poker-wise or away from the tables, but I'm going to be putting every effort I can in to turn negatives into positives

So I'm making a real concerted effort over the next couple of months to get into a full time groove at home otherwise I might start exploring other options, it's really all about discipline and that's what I've got to make sure happens.

Think it's time to read Elements of Poker again and read/watch some Jared Tendler stuff.

Had a rather long debate about balancing this week and it's now got it's own thread in the LHE section

Really cool thread for those of you who are interested in the concept

An interesting debate about balancing

I've seen lots of weird plays, but this one might top most of them. Ok I get the curiosity call on the river, but turn? Drawing to six outs?

I think this guy didn't know the rules of poker. I played a guy who didn't know the rules ~year ago, he was playing 100 vpip 100 wtsd on a 6max table, I think it was at 2/4 or 3/6. He learned fast though and next time I met him he had already switched to 60/2 style.

But of course, nothing can beat the fun fact that you had T hi when he decided to take such a line :f_biggrin:

A real gem :f_grin:

Apologies for the lack of update recently but April has been a bit of a ridiculously busy month for me however there have been a few interesting things

First off the challenge hit it's first downswing, yup I shipped about 250BB over the course of a 2k hand period. It's not a big deal by any stretch of the imagination but it does go to show that you cannot take anything for granted even in today's micro stakes games.

Overall it's lead to me being about breakeven for the challenge atm but it's still in the very early stages as I really, once again, shat out on volume this month for the challenge due to my responsibilities elsewhere.

Did have some fun in April though overall:

I attended an MTG PTQ in Sheffield and did some coverage which you'll be able to find soon on Youtube

I attended Wrexham ComiCon this weekend and was happy to meet a couple of my favourite TV guys. Robert Picardo was there along with a few of the LoTR guys. Only problem was the venue wasn't big enough but overall a fun time.

One thing I did want to blog about, especially for you guys who might be thinking of taking up poker professionally is that I think it's a huge deal that you make sure you keep an active life away from the tables. Don't neglect the remainder of your life in order to grind hands, if you have to do that it's not worth doing, you're just working a job so you might as well get a 9-5 where at least your income is guaranteed. The reason for playing proffesionally (and I still only really play semi-pro volume) is that you can either make a lot more money than you can elsewhere or you get greater freedom. If neither of those is true in this market you're better off with other sources of income.

I noticed my mood really picked up when I just forgot about everything and spent a couple of days with friends and just that whole idea to stem off cabin fever can be a big help to you.

So anyway, plans for May:

From Monday May 6th you're going to be able to catch me on twitch.tv streaming as part of this challenge. I'll probably just literally stream some Zoom poker and chat to people for the first couple of "shows" on the stream but it's mainly just to have some interaction with you guys and guage some feedback. I'll aim to stream at least once a week and we'll see how it goes

Watch out for my video released this week, it was recorded before I shipped those bets but hey ho what can you do .

I'm looking with datsmahname to run the LHE Homegame this month and get the coaching done for it. The response we've had has been phenominal and want to build on that as much as possible.

I'll also going to start offering private coaching more generally on Pokerstrategy. I'll come up with a full thread during the month. Again I'm going to tailor my offers mainly towards the small stakes guys.

Overall hand target for the month on the challenge is between 20-30,000 hands, 35k tops.

Make sure I continue to enjoy life because if I don't enjoy what I'm doing then it's time to find something else to do. Life's too short to be miserable

Hey guys

Apologies for my absence recently but to be honest I've not had much to say and mainly been exceedingly busy with things both here at Pokerstrategy and at home I've barely had any time to play poker and the challenge remains very rooted

I have decided to keep continuing it but right now real life is being a bit roungh for me however that will change I'm sure and as one of my favourite relatives used to say:

"God only shoulders the burden on those who can handle it"

Personally I've never been much of a believer but it's a nice saying

However, the reason I've broken my silence is that, yes, I currently do have something to say

Last night our FL coach datsmahname announced he will be leaving his coaching position to move on to other things:

As a Pokerstrategy Staff member, a Fixed-Limit player and someone who's been fortunate enough to speak to Nathan quite a bit over the past year or so he's been here I want to say a huge thank-you to him for all his efforts and that he will be sorely missed and I think everyone on Pokerstrategy wishes him the best in what he decides to do...except if he tries to steal my blind...then I don't wish the best for you but aside from that....well whatever
