hola! guyz I've found something weird, namely I sometimes do a 5bet bluff or stackoff in late positions a bit wider and after 230k hands I loose almost twice as much while 5betting compared to just folding the 3bet. check it:

(filter is all hands without AQ+,QQ+, all in preflop, faced 4bet after hero 3betted)

so what should I do with this knowledge?

- stop 5bet bluffing completely? everytime I do it I am pretty sure the spot and feq and vills 4bet freq. allow me to do it profitably - maybe some hands were tilted out. So it might be more profitable to stop doing it completely, if I spazz once every 50k hands or smth...

- is it just variance? but it's like this on all stakes I've played.

- develope a 4bet flat calling strategy? I have no real clue how _biggrin:

well I've figured out problem with 5bets - this filter only shows hands where I got my 5bet called, all 5bet bluffs I've done have average ev better than folding to a 4bet so its not a leak.

something I've taken notice lately:

@life leak: lack of balance between poker and other activities. When poker goes wrong I tend to fall into pretty shitty place with nothing to turn to. This is due to the lack of balance in my life – I need to find some other activities that I could focus on and excel and rebuild my confidence, if poker wise I am on a downswing.

yeahh, this is so so so important. Do you have any other hobbies? Even just hanging out with friends/coming up with new things to do or going out and meeting new people really helps keep your mind off poker when you're away from the computer. And like you said, it makes dealing with downswings a lot easier, and it also probably helps reduce tilt. And most importantly, it makes life more enjoyable and meaningful.

I am not a mental coach or life coach or anything, but maybe you could set a limit for the amount of time per week you spend with poker and also with the amount of time you spend on the internet, so that you're forced to get into other things with the rest of your time.

@oblioo

I already force myself to not do any kind of poker or studying work 1 day per week, but its really hard to balance coz I still have some exams left...;d

results for march sofar:

I am really glad I play with 120BI+ brm... only 45k~ hands but around 50h of studying poker and around 5k of checking if I still know how to play at nl25.

my std dev is 92bb/100.

I use stop losses, tilt breaker, I do concentration checks every 1,5 hour, analyzed the hell out of database.

But I did mostly cosmetic changes, dropped 3bet a little bit (not really sure if I should but it works fine sofar - last 10k hands I got extraordinary amount of value coz my 3bet got value heavy - dunno how fast vils are gonna adapt to it.

or if I just runned first ridiculous poor and now hot as hell and shouldn't think much about it?

It's so hard to not be results oriented, but with every swong like this it gets easier I guess. I've learned a lot this month and I've finally chekced most of spots I wasn't sure (was aware I wasn't sure) and found "proof" that they work.

just have to stick to stuff that works and work on improving the "grey area" where I am not really sure if my plays are correct - hence result orientedness and frustration during downswing...

And thanks for awesome new videos on zoom - reminded me to fight for those few more pots every hour;)

some leaks I've found:

Spoiler

Leak found 7.03.2013

@nl50 stop bluff raising turn cbets with over cards, pure air, weak pairs
now loosing -1900bb/100 oposed to circa -850bb/100 while check folding on turn average.
STOP BLUFF RAISING TURNS!!!

Leak found 11.03.2013

@nl50 start barreling more rivers, you get 52% folding equity generaly, when you bet river with sizing <65% of pot and you need only 39%feq and have 48%, aditionaly higher sizings give give 56% feq
BARREL MORE!!!! CHECK AFTER 100K THE FREQUENCIES

Leak found 13.03.2013

@nl50 with range 100% - (Ajs+,88+,QJs,KQ) OOP from blinds I play -400bb/100 against limpers
STOP PLAYING VS LIMPER/S WITH NO PREMIUM OOP!!! - how the hell is this possible...;d

Leak found 13.03.2013

@nl50 when 3betting with 100% - QQ+,AKs/o when I face 4bet I loose -1250bb/100 when I call 4bet.

Stop calling 4bets with nopremium!!!!

I make -500bb/100 when I 5betbluff so it should be a profitable play to do it more frequently with good range.

5BET BLUFF MOAR!!!

Hey!

Start looking at some physical exercise that you can do after every session. Running, going to the gym or anything you find fun. Are you doing any of this?

Adding in outwards positive influences such as interesting books, pod casts and seminars for example are important to get some new perspectives on life.

Any ideas on ideas like this you can regularly add to your life?

Cheers!

yep, I ride daily indoor bike circa 10km in the morning, walk to uni, do some quick exercises during breaks in sessions. I eat generally healthy with ocassional pizza;) but never anything very greasy before session. mostly nice breakfast and fish+vegies + nuts/joghurt/fruits in the evening since I go to sleep around 5 o clock usually.

I upload new book to kindle every 2 weeks or so and read it while biking or in spare time, recently "The Power of Now" - amazing stuff!, and "Use your brain for a change".

I've enrolled in a 4 person team for finance competition with friends, some case study for first part, it might not be max ev but should be fun and provide some other activity.

Hello again :)!

Coincidentally, I have made a video about poker/life balance .

It's a long video but I would really recommend you to watch it in order to get a good overview about the subject ;).

I see that you're on the right track by finding new activities. It's good to think about new things that you want to try for example. Maybe you could just commit to trying 1 new thing a week (kung-fu? bungee? meditation? cooking? etc.), or learning about (for example reading an article) one new thing a day.

Of course hobbies, sports, socializing, etc. are also great for solving your problem :).

Let me know what you think of the video!

I thought so, could tell from your introduction post/mindfulness video!

I will go throu it again and dig some stuff up for sure.

I'm in love with concept of looking at compulsive thinking the way he describes it - as mentall illnes of sorts.

And it's really amazing how even just reading this book makes you stay just "present", I didn't swallow a book like this in a long time now...

Also while reading it one can think it was written specially for poker players:D I mean the amount of stuff you can apply directly, for example thought patterns awarness/ emotion awarness/ disconecting from past/future/

"watching the thinker", this so sharp and easy and accurate model of dealing with unnecessary/unpractical/spaceconsuming thoughts and being aware of them much faster - it's just awesome

and this perfect in its simplicity yet so true, complete nonresult orientedness, mindfullnes, high concentration that comes from all of it and calmness that you are in a state where you make high quality decisions - that you get when you play or really do whatever.

(this might seem a bit chaotic but I hope you know what I mean:))

Not mentioning all the perks away from the tables.

I've heard about Eckhart Tolle and "Power of now" from an short interview from some EPT I guess, with Liv Boeree - she was very enthusiastic about this book so I gave it a try.

I am thinking whether i should write a "but", but even thou I absolutely loved it there were some parts that seemed to me a bit far fetched or confusing if you will. But probably its good, "confusion is a first step for understanding".

I think parts where he speaks about portals were a bit too "mystic" for me. I mean Im not a very religious person, well religious is a wrong word, maybe spiritual...

but ok, I've always thought about it or talked about "Being" with friends, probably more often drunk than sober, in similar ways, obviously not as specific as he does.

So what I would like to know is, since whole book is written in a format of Q/A:

- what do you think about his expierience when he went from "I cannot live with myself any longer." to 5 months of constant pressence or maybe permanent pressence?

- what are your favourite or most effective ways of staying in "now"? I am still planning to watch your new video so probably you answer this question there.

- how would you keep yourself constantly present if you were to play poker 8 hours a day? I probably make a mistake of focusing on this and really applying only when I am about to/ already playing poker.

- whats your take on the parts about "present, connected with Being, human" as next evolution step for humanity? And collective awareness?

1. I understand what you mean. Crystal clear :)

2. The word comes with a lot of baggage. Just remove it and change it to technique or shortcut and that is what it means. He doesn't label it like we do so it works for him. I'm more like you when it comes to the religious stuff so...

4. Well, every person journey is their own. All we can do is be inspired by and try to learn from others. Embrace what you feel is right but keep an open mind and presence to what comes.

5. Mine is playing the game "Honoring the present moment" Making you bed, walking down the street or talking to another person. Are you honoring the moment by giving it your full attention? Don't ask what the moment can do for you, but what quality of your presence and awareness are you bringing to the moment? :)

6. One moment at a time. :) Practice, practice, and practice.

7. I think the world is polarizing more and more. The world would be a different place if consciousness was the primary focus of humanity. But we don't have to worry about everyone else. It start with one person, ourselves. :)

I'm certain you will enjoy the video series. :)

Cheers!
