Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has J♥ A♥

UTG raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, CO calls 3 BB, fold, Hero raises to 12 BB, fold, fold, CO calls 9 BB

Flop: (28 BB, 2 players) 3♣ Q♠ 8♦
Hero bets 15 BB, CO raises to 40 BB and is all-in, fold

CO wins 56 BB

Should I just fold preflop here normally?

I was basically trying to squeeze and take down the pot preflop but thought I had some equity against a call.

It's dry flop, it's checked to me. I think with a cbet I take it down.
Should I just give up there? Can't see not betting.

Clearly I have to fold to the check raise.

3 betting preflop vs a halfstacker who is opening utg is generally speaking a very bad play. I'd even consider folding preflop. Put your opponent on a range. use pokerstove or equilab. It's free.

villain's likely UTG range 22+,AQs+,KQs,AQo+,KQo

AJs has 43 % equity against this range. if he ships it in with 88+ AQ+ u should definately not 3 bet. You probably don't know his stack off range wich makes 3 betting even worse.

even if you just call preflop you have serious RIO ( reverse implied odds) issues if villian only opens AQ+

As played cbet and obviously fold.

Hi Edukator,

Preflop: I do agree with fortunewheel that the 3-bet here is very optimistic at best. I would simply fold versus 2 short stacks that aren't even fish.

Postflop: As played you have to fold to shove but even the cbet is questionable given the potential range for villain. I doubt the shortie will fold underpairs there.
