the 19 from 1989 is correct though, so you know his birth has occured somewhere between 1900 and 1999. Just imagine a 114 year old scammer

Just have some questions regarding this, and other cases:
1. What does PS do when this happens? Does the member get thrown out?
2. When you register as a PS member you need to supply some information, do you give this information on to the people getting scammed?
3. How did you pay the Scam-er? I would have contacted them, either if it is a poker room or neteller or like, to get information from them. Or at least to get them to throw him out.
4. He must have a traced poker account to be a bronze star, so does PS supply this information to the people who got scammed, or even better PS contacts the poker room and get this guy stopped. After all nobody wants these people around in the poker community, or what?

Nothing - we provide the marketplace but we do not take any responsibilty between the staker and the stakee. At the end of the day it is the stakers personal choice to back someone.Members do not get "thrown out" because it does not serve any purpose. You have to take into consideration that the "scammer" may come back some day and pay everyone back. So banning them is no use.

No as it would break every data protection act out there.

Again, no site is going to give you any information about any user. They are simply not allowed to do so.4. Again no for the data protection reasons mentioned above.
I would add backing someone is the complete responsibility of the backer. The backer has many way to ensure the most chances for his stake to go well while PS cannot take responsibility for the carelessness of backers.
IMO as a backer there are 2 types of potential stakers.
1) reputable regular stackees or well known member of the community who I know of and trust this way. I can go on trust in this case and yes it can still go wrong but it is unlikely IMO
2) new backers with no history. I would do a number of checks through a live session in a remote desktop software.
examples:
- open and generate live reports and graphs in tracking software.
- open Poker software to compare username with the one
- if you ask for an id also see if you can get a video call to compare the picture
- pay attention to details
and if in any doubts, just back away, there will be other opportunities
on the other hand I also think that PokerStrategy should be more helpful to the backers. I do not mean by divulging data because this would be breaking the data protection act but by banning the member on request of the backer.
This English community is great because it has a feeling of actual community I know a lot of the members and have met a few of them IRL. I don't think we want scammers and thieves in the community and the only reason to keep them is the potential of them changing their mind and paying back. If the backers decide that it's not gonna happen I don't see the point keeping the member. This is my opinion obviously and not necessarily shared by PS.
