Had a pretty bad experience today.
I went to the doctor as I'm sick and on top of the fever and coughing stuff I have an ear-ache. Turns out it's just a mild inflammation, they say it will go away in a week if I keep it warm at nights.
Coming back from the doctor's I had a car crash. There were two lanes going my direction, the left one was going on the highway, the right one was for proceeding forward. There was high traffic in the left one, the cars were barely moving. The right one was clear. I was moving in the right one when a car got off the highway, through a gap in the queue in the left lane. I had like 0.5 seconds to brake as I had no way to see him in advance because of the multitude of cars.
So I crashed into him pretty hard. I'm fine, he's fine, no one is injured. The crash must have been at relatively high speed though, as the car I was driving (my mom's) got smashed really bad. The whole engine block is leaning out and stuff like that.
Needless to say, it wasn't my fault. It was beyond obvious it wasn't my fault. Not only he shouldn't have come in that direction as he could only turn left from the highway into a separate lane, he also had a priority sign (that's the name of the triangle?).
But, as it is standard with douchebags, he wasn't gonna admit that it was his fault, so he called the police. They decided in about 12 seconds. I mean it, it was beyond obvious.
Now I'm not gonna go into much detail about this part, but I'm really proud that I kept 100% calm all through the procedure. I think my brain was thinking 120% clear if that's possible. I'm not some super-man, my hands are shaking right now and I'm pretty scared thinking what could've happened if I don't have seatbelts on or if there is someone sitting on the right side of his car, which was totally smashed as well.
But I really did keep my calm while the procedure was ongoing, and that's a good thing. Man, this douche tried so hard to fool me. He saw a young guy, guess he thought he could scare me with the police enough to fool me, or I don't know. As I said, won't go into much detail about this one, but here's one example:
At the end, with the last check of the insurance papers that we filled, he says this: "I wanna check what you wrote. You should check what I wrote as well so everything checks up". And starts pointing on his personal data and insurance data and whatnot. What does a good poker player do in this spot?
Instantly check the part of the page where he is not pointing. Oh, right, he conveniently "forgot" to tick the box that states that he went through the priority sign. I'm super proud that I had a clear head. Dunno if it had mattered, as the paper already stated that he admits his guilt, but still. Maybe he really forgot? Don't know. Might be.
Also, one "fun" thing: after it was made clear to him by the police that he made the mistake, he insulted me (the officers had to return to their cars as there was some fighting a few streets down. lol). He made some remark about my age and that I make sure I return it to "mommy" with a full tank, or something like that. I know that would've pissed me off a few years ago, and I also know I wouldn't have replied a few years ago.
I smiled in myself and immediately thought of a fish who lost, blabbering in the chat. Lol, Jesus, it sounds so ridiculous written down, but I really thought of that. So I just said "Excuse me, I couldn't catch it". Dunno if this sounds badass or not, I don't wanna make myself look like some super guy, but I definitely did keep my head 120% clear for an hour.
And now I'm super scared. I drive a car very well, I'm honest about this - I know I'm pretty mediocre with a motorbike for example (have license for both). Still, this happens, I drive well, extra careful, always on full attention and I have an accident that completely smashes two cars. It was a terrifying sight, not kidding. So, use a seat belt. I'm not one of those karma guys, but I usually don't use a seatbelt. Today I used cause I decided that my reflexes are probably not the best given that my ear is mildly ringing.
Moral of the story (tl;dr): Use a seatbelt. It's not for show, and shit like this happens to everyone. Even Raikönnen couldn't have avoided this one. Also, be aware of douches trying to fuck you in every single moment of your life, especially in moments when it is hard to keep your head clear.
Apologies for the wall of wisdom, I thought I had to give it out of myself. Signing off,
