Yeah, guess that shit happens, even over a long period of time. But I think this will help me to become a better player because it makes me to study alot more. I even feel that improved the game in many ways, and no doubt that the results will come, eventually.

I've played quite ok, I think, but Mother Fortune was very brutal to me today, so I busted 4 BI's that I earned. Will post the hands later. Hi, my friends!

Long time no post, but actually have a good reason. As the school year ends, as a teacher, especially as an informatics teacher, have a bunch of tasks to do, including decideing of final grades, which is the most stressfull part, and making the, so called, "brochure of success", which is a brochure where the most successful students are represented with pictures and their achievements. I'm doing it in inDesign and have to be fast and furious. Unfortunatelly, don't have as much time for poker as I wish, but that will change in three weeks when summer holydays start. ♦ And there are plenty of good things waiting: football world cup and the opening mach with my country against a host. :f_love:, trip to the Spain (including visiting the Nou Camp Stadium) with students for 7 days (from 23. June), going to the seaside with my girlfriend and a lot (I really mean A LOT) of poker! Seriously, I can hardly wait!

Meanwhile, I had a free coaching session with w34z3l, which I mentioned in previous posts and am super satisfied with it. In just one hour of datamining of my database, he managed to spot few significant leaks that are losing me money. They are:
Stealing too less from the SB
Stealing too less from the BTN
Defending too tight from blinds (especially BB and especially flatting too tight)
3betting too tight from the BTN.

Also, a member of pokerstrategy, noobis667, reviewed the video of my play and made 2 parts of it, where he spotted almost the same leaks. You can find videos here and here, and his blog here.

So, I instatlly started to work on the leaks and think I have some results in 4,5k hands I've played since then:

SB RFI was 27,9, and now is 37,1
BTN RFI was 43,7 and now is 48,2
SB 3bet was 4,65 and now is 4,85
SB Ccall was 5,67 and now is 8,45
BB 3bet was 6,09 and now is 7,03
BB Ccall was 9,95 and now is 16,8
BTN 3bet was 4,21 and now is 7,67

Results are probably irrelevant in such a small sample, but EV bb/100 in those hands was 7,06 (actuall bb/100 was 1,48) and, since the playing style is more loose/aggressive, the rakeback is 4,91 bb/100. So, I think this is the right way and will keep working on it. Stay tuned!

Didn't play much latelly, still waiting for the classes to end, but overall am satisfied with the results. Currently am playing at two iPoker skins: Poker770 to collect Strategy points to keep my status here (silver at least) and to be able to post hands and watch videos, and Betfair because of the rakeback things. Interesting how results from those two differ. Have 4.639 hands at Poker770, with the WR of 18,7 bb/100 and 7.381 hands at Betfair, with the WR of -2,14. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle (or below, to be realistic).

Anyway, have about €29 of rakeback to cash out, but will wait untill the end of the month. I hope it would be arround 70 then. Without that, the current BR is €701,71.

I'm also watching almost all matches at the World Cup and had to say that it's really shame for FIFA that the ref such as Yuichi Nishimura get the opportunity to arbitrate the openning match. Croatia should reach at least a draw against brazilians, but it's too late now. Not sure if you noticed, but FIFA indirectly admitted the mistake by nominating Pedro Proenca for Croatia's 2nd match, which was the first (and I think the only) occasion in group phase untill now, where the european ref arbitrated the european team against a team from the other continent.

Anyway, we still have a chance to reach the next stage, but need a win against Mexico. Croatia certainly have better players, playing for bigger european clubs, than Mexico, but you never know. Mexico has really really good team and I expect a close match, hopefully, with Croatia as a winner! Wish you all the best luck at the tables and see you in July!

Long time no see, but I believe it's time to make a little update. ♦

Many things happened since my last post here, but one thing stayed the same - I still play poker and still struggling at NL10.

To sum it up, I moved up to NL20 two times, when had enough bankroll to do so, which was €880, but every time it punched me in the face so hard that I cried like a baby. So, I realized that I'm probably just not good enough for that limit. ♠_confused:

So, from that point I decided to play NL10, possibly about 30k hands a month and just see how much money can I earn with it. Since I have a regular job, something about €150 - €200 a month would be nice. Since I earn like 5 bb/100 from the rakeback, basically I have to be break even to earn that money. So, in October I earned €50. ♦

Things were going quite nice for me untill the end of the month, where I hit a very bad strike and lost a couple of buy-ins, and the last day I lost €70 more.. One word, insane.. So, in bad shape I run into November, where I lost a couple of stacks more. Obviously, pretty unhappy with the results, but I hope the things will change.

Will try to do my best and make updates here as often as I could. Hope will have some better results at the end of the month. Played 600 hands today. Had couple of heavy loses:

I can't say it's the worst downswing I've ever gone trough, but it's certainly one of the most brutal.. I considered last month unlucky, when I won just €50 over 35k hands, but in this one things are going from bad to worse. There are fazes where I literally can't hit any flop and when I hit something like top pair (and think - fuck yeah, at least) I end up check/raised from the most passive guy at the tables. Then there are fazes when I feel this shit could over, things start to look better and I even get some smile on my face during play.. but then suddenlly started to lose with top sets, Aces against 46, run KK into AA and end up losing again.

Fuck, I have to say. I don't enjoy playing like that, being in constant fear that something will eventually go wrong, even when I feel like playing solid, the A-game, would say. Basically, my brain is mathematic brain, I have a masters degree in computer science, so I'm constantly trying to convince myself that if I play enough amount of hands, my skill will eventually make me profit. I know that I'm better than the average NL10 player. But the question is - how many hands should I play to make luck unimportant? Latelly I heard that 300k hands should give you a good picture. But for god sake, 300k hands is a number that I need a whole year to achieve. And even if I consider to be 2bb/100 winner, according to poker variance calculators, there is still a chance I will lose big time in those 300k hands. I need to be at least 5 bb/100 to be sure I will make some profit in 300k hands, and there is still a chance I will be almost break even. So, I'm asking myself, isn't the luck more important in poker than I'd like to admitt to others and myself? If it is, is it wise to spend so much time learning and playing poker, instead of doing something where the income is more probable, like programming?

So, things obviously don't go as I would wish. When look back to my previous posts, it's a bunch of complaining about bad beats, bad luck and bad... mah... everything was bad. So, I 've asked myself a question - am I the unluckiest guy out there? Am I the only one who suffers from repetitive loses just due to bad luck? As hard as I would wish to be, because that would explain all my stagnation poker-wise, I'm afraid I'm not that guy. True, I maybe have some unlucky loses, bad strikes, long downswing periods etc. But who doesn't? Probably the key of being successfull in poker is to overcome those. You have to be better than your "aggravating circumstances". You have to be good enough to beat any misfortune that can come due to the variance.

The fact of me being at approximatelly the same point now where I was a year ago is most likelly not a consequence of being unlucky all the time, rather of not improving all the time. It's obvious, I need to make some changes, not just to earn some money of playing poker, but to enjoy playing poker. If I don't enjoy, what's even the point of all of this? I'm constantly trying to chase some volume, rakeback, bonuses.. I don't have time to really improve, to really enjoy playing and improving.

I took some days off of poker and tried to figure out what to do. The first thing which came to my mind was to decrease the number of tables I'm playing. At the beginning of the year, I was playing two tables of speed poker, but then switched to three, to earn more rakeback. It seemed to me that I was playing the same at three tables as I had at two, but I never really examined that. Since I have an Excel file to record all my sessions, including time I spent and number of tables I played at, I had all the data, which just had to be processed. And for 2014., NL10, the numbers are following:

213,43 hours playing 3 tables --> 79,25 hours playing 2 tables
~600 hands/hour playing 3 tables --> ~450 hands/hour playing 2 tables
-€437,8 net profit playing 3 tables --> €160,16 net profit playing 2 tables
-3,42 bb/100 winrate playing 3 tables --> 4,49 bb/100 winrate playing 2 tables
~5 bb/100 of rakeback playing 3 tables --> probably more than 5 bb/100 of rakeback playing 2 tables (because of better focusing and not folding too much)
1,58 bb/100 including rakeback playing 3 tables --> 9,49 bb/100 including rakeback (probably even more) playing 2 tables

And the most important, I was playing 3 tables to increase my hourly winrate, so the following shocked me:

9,48 bb/hour (including rakeback) playing 3 tables --> 42,71 bb/hour (including rakeback) playing 2 tables
€0,95/hour (including rakeback) playing 3 tables --> €4,27/hour (including rakeback) playing 2 tables
Assumed lost profit playing 3 tables instead of 2 tables: €709,12

I made those calculations based on about 160k hands, so that's pretty big sample and I think may be considered as relevant. What to say? WOW! I 've played 3 tables instead of 2 to get more rakeback, but the result were big net loses + it's questionable do I really earn more rakeback per hour playing 3 tables, because I focus alot better and folding less hands at 2 tables. This is so eye openning!

So, the next thing I did is I started to play 2 tables and I allready see some changes in my stats, but will post some numbers when play more hands.
The next thing is that I wont chase 1,5k hands a day or such, just to get more rakeback. I will rather focus more on playing solid, instead of playing a lot.
The time I'll get like that will spend on learning, watching videos, posting hands and actually improving.

That's it! I've allready rewatched the video of my coaching session with w34z3l from May this year and made some notes of which stats did I improve to his suggestions and which not. I can say that I did improve some, but not as nearly as I could in those 6 months that passed (I will probably write a bit about that). But it's never too late for becoming better, in any way! Let's hope I can do that!

• After NL20 (if I ever get there), always follow 40 BI bankroll management – newer play at a limit which I don't have at least 40 buy-ins for [update: Yep, I still stick to that 40 Buy In's rule ]

What's up?

Just wanted to start a session, but there is nobody at NL10 iPoker. They obviously heard that I'm coming. ♠_biggrin: Seriously, the problem with no traffic at iPoker NL10 Speed is something that I can't explain. There are much traffic at NL5 and NL20, but the NL10 tables start to fill up only afternoon. Then there is no traffic at NL50, but decent at NL100. Seems that iPoker grinders move two steps up when master their current limit. Am little tempted to open NL20 tables, but rather not..

As I mentioned before, I switched to two tables instead of three and might say that my playing style changed quite a bit. It's small sample, though, but I believe that is the line I will follow. I played just 4k hands like that, but the basic differences are following:

VPIP: 3 tables: 22,03 | 2 tables: 24,26 [+10,12%]
PFR: 3 tables: 18,2 | 2 tables: 20,09 [+10,38%]

Will post some more stats when will have a bigger sample. For now I can say that I'm able to focus alot more on hands, which result in better thought proccess when tough spots arise. There is much more fun playing like that. As a result, I'm motivated alot more and started to actually learn something. Hope will finish the w34z3l's Walkthrough series soon. The thing which is not that good is that I don't play much hands, but that's something I made a compromise about - quality ahead of quantity. Also, I'm earning a bit less rakeback per hour - 22,47 bb/hour (29,42 bb/hour with 3 tables), but my net wins had to be just 1,74 bb/100 higher now to compensate my overall hourly winrate, which, I'm sure, will be. Overall, am very satisfied with the current situation. Won't reach my volume goals in November, but plan to rake at least €200 in December. With my job and everything, think it's realistic plan.
