Villain plays 17/10 on 31 hands

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Omaha Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

BTN: $46.03 (184.1 bb)
SB: $26.61 (106.4 bb)
BB: $25.31 (101.2 bb)
Hero (UTG): $89.90 (359.6 bb)
MP: $128.86 (515.4 bb)
CO: $26.92 (107.7 bb)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with J 9 9 J
Hero raises to $0.85, MP raises to $2.90, 4 folds, Hero calls $2.05

Flop: ($6.15) 6 9 A (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $5.89, Hero calls $5.89

Turn: ($17.93) 5 (2 players)
Hero bets ?

Villain seems to be quite tight, but I don't know anything about his 3betting.

Pre: a call is fine, I think.
Flop: If he has AA or not... he will cbet, so ch/c is fine
Turn: ch/f ? He could barrel AA, but will chb often, I think?! I block most of the hands, which can make a Nutstraight.

Regards MGF

the 5 is a very good card for your range. Leading the turn and betting any nonpairing river to move him off AA might work against some people, unfortunately you don't have that many hands on him. The problem with this line is that you often check the straight in order to let him continue to rep AA.
The problem I see with c/c is that you would most likely c/r a straight, so he might be 3barreling since after c/c you often have a hand that wants to get to showdown as cheap as possible (but then I might just give him way to much credit).

I like betting turn big - something like 14 and then continuing on almost any river, there's like 0% chance that he will call twice even with AA. Obviously not against a major fish, but given the stack size I expect him to not be an enormous one :)

definitely x/c is a terrible line here since he always has AA or even 87, so it's a huuuge waste of money, I'd rather fold first than x/c _cool:

Hi,

too few hands to consider the villain a nit here. I also don't like the idea of turning our set into a bluff at all. He should vbet weaker hands one more time, and if he checks behind i think we have the best hand.

I would never try to move someone off of AA here, especially not w/o blockers and being comfortably ahead of his entire non AA range.

I'm c/c turn unless he bets really big; in that case i would fold.

Skod

my standard is also to c/c skod, but how would you play 78 here? would you c/c and check river? with the nuts i don't want to c/c check river. might be quite transparent then if you c/r or lead with 87 and c/c check with a set, thinking players should be betting the river big in that case. but idk if anyone does that at these stakes.

Hi,

i would just c/r the nuts ott here with 87xx. It is sorta transparent, but so is our opponents hand if he calls; we know he has AA there and is waiting for the board to pair. It would suck though when the club hits, but i do think at these level, even up to plo100 people usually won't turn their hand into a bluff, and will just check behind topset for showdown value.

I'm less concerned about the riverplay with 87 once we c/r, what I'm concerned about is that if we c/c here with the 9s that we are face up (since you said you'd c/r the straight). So once we c/c the turn and river doesn't pair the board a good player should bomb the river with his whole range because we never have the nuts. And that's why I kind of dislike c/c turn here with the 9s. But I don't know if Villains at 50 and 100plo are good enough to exploit our c/c here.

Yes, from a balancing point it's akward to play this spot no matter what. However, you will rarely reach a 300bb deep spot like this one with this precise dillema ott, so having a nonbalanced play here isn't the biggest of deals, especialy at the micros and low ssplo.

But it's obviously a tricky spot no matter what we do decide to do OTT. Going for a c/r is overplaying our hand, going for a c/f is too weak.

We can still call a river bet vs an agressive opponent with 99 here. It's still darn near the top of our range; so if you think villain will consider your c/c ott to not be a str8, you can indeed call the river with that read.

I hope i explained myself ok :)

I don't think this has anything to do with how we play in other similar spots, as Villain doesn't need a read for this to recognize it as unbalanced. If I was Villain I'd assume a c/r from 87 so once Hero calls I would heavily consider barreling the river.
Given that I like your response of calling the river with the 9s, imo we have to do that once we call turn (against competent Villains).

Well you can always adjust further. If you think villain will think you don't have 87xx here and will therefore barrel any river, then going for a c/c, c/c, c/rai line would be the perfect scenario.

But in my mind people will just take their showdown value otr and check it behind, so facing a 3barrel here i usually the straight in my mind. I've yet to find a player that's not an agressive fish that would dare fire 150bb's below plo200 as a bluff because he thinks your range is capped :)
