Hi all,
I have no information as to why the video is for gold, but I have noted your concerns and passed them to the relevant people.
Regards,
Mal.
Hey guys,
It's a 10 part series and first parts of it were for silver.
The actual video offers an advanced theoretical insight into 3bet defense and the concepts of it are applicable easily up to NL100, and some are even universal. So it's not your typical NL5 session review and merits the gold status.
Gold on the other hand is not very hard to get even playing on the lowest stakes, especially with the bonus 10 StrategyPoints per day. And for those of you who prefer not to play on a partner room, there is the subscription system - gold is $19 per month and gives you access to much more of w34s3l's content, but also Uri Peleg, Splitsuit, BogdanPS, to name a few for NL alone.
Best regards,
Kamen
No problem, got my gold status back yesterday. I'd recommend zooming for gold
@W34z3l:
Can you edit the ranges into your initial post please? Or maybe just upload your predefineduser.ini from equilab
Hey guys, ranges are updated in the OP now, sorry for the delay.
I'm going to work on uploading that predefineduser.ini file next also
ok PreflopPredefined.ini uploaded to my skydrive, if someone could attempt to put it into their equilab folder and see if the ranges load that would be great. It was in my program files (x86)/pokerstrategy.com/pokerstrategy.com equilab folder by default
Hey w34z3l,
unfortunately it's the wrong file. It should be the PreflopUserdefined.ini file.
To find it (and import it for those who use it later), you'll have to make invisible and hidden folders visible.
#1. Open any folder
#2. Top left click Organize -> Folder and Search Options
#3. Go to View-tab
#4. Find somewhere in the middle -> Show hidden files and folders.
Afterwards, you'll be able to find the AppData folder, through which you can access the correct Equilab folder, which should usually be something like this:
C: \ Users \ [YourUsername] \ AppData \ Local \ Equilab \ >import into here<
Cheers
Hey,
I already had hidden files displaying but for some reason I couldn't access it through the pokerstrategy.com folder, I had to go through c:\users\username\appdata instead
Any file should be uploaded, let me know if it works.
Hi w34z3l.
Can you explain why you build cold calling ranges ( 1st video) without all pocket pairs ( for example MP vs UTG QQ-77,AKo-AQo,AKs-AJs,KQs,JTs,T9s,98s , but why you don`t include 22-66).
P.S. I`m from Russia , sorry for my bad English
Hey AlexeyTustik,
It's not consider profitable to set-mine with the small PP's in early position seeing as there is a greater chance someone behind us wakes up with a premium holding and forces us to fold preflop when he squeezes.
The later our position the more PP's we can profitably defend. In the BB we can defend all PP's since we get a great price. The earlier the position of the open raiser the better implied odds we get also.
Hi W34z3l,
Just joining the thread now. Watched vid 1-4 and now focussing on the homework. Learning a ton of valuable things here.
Construct ISO-raising range:
Mainly I'm Iso-raising with pretty much my open raising range for each position. After your first video I'm working with the ranges you suggested in Equilab.
@ W34z3l: Do you prefer to construct a detailed ISO-raising range from all positions against all possible limpers?
Especially trying to isolate players with fishy stats. Since I pretty much use my open raising range my betsize is 3bb + 2 x # limpers. The earlier my position and the looser the players behind me the tighter my isolation range. See examples below:
MP Iso raise vs UTG limper

BTN Iso raise vs MP limper

These are both ISO raises IP. OOP would be from the blinds. Think I would use SB OR range for ISO raise from both positions. From BB I would normally check and raise only against SB.
Stack size:
Against players with <50bb stack sizes I ISO-raise more of my top value open raise range for my specific position. More speculative hands (pocket pairs and lowr suited connectors) don't pay off enough given the odds with these stack sizes.
Opponent type:
Iso-raising range can be wider than open raise range when trying to islate a specific player in the blinds. E.g. Hero is CO. BTN and SB are very tight and BB is loose fish (70/15). If normal Hero open raise range is 25% he could widen it a little to 30-32% in order to play more against fish while still beating his range very often. Optimal ISO positions would be fish in BB or CO when Hero is BTN.
Tried adding screenshots from my equilab ranges in the "spoiler".
Get an error that only certain extensions are supported like .jpg. I'm upoloading a .jpg file from dropbox by copying the URL.
Any help on what I'm doing wrong here?

Hi, TortoiseAndHare...
I've never tried to post an image from dropbox.
Try using imgur -- it works for me, it's free and its fairly straightforward.
Once you've uploaded your pic, there is even an icon to click that puts the correct BBCode on your clipboard for pasting into your post.
Slick.
Can you post the URL of the pic that you are trying to post?
I might be able to figure out the problem from that.
The dropbox item might need to be shared correctly too.
Imgur is SO much easier.
Peace,

Turn:

I guess this is going to be more like a question type post from me.
I will post only 1 hand since i don't want show too much spewfest here.
Villain is a regular who likes to 3bet over small sample. I assume he is using linear range in SB although i might be wrong.
Preflop: I guess thats a standard defend in such case. Way too good to 4bet. The key point here is his 3bet sizing. I would like to hear some opinions from you guys how wide we can go by defending here? I would defend all sorts of suited crap and most likely offsuit broadways. Offsuit connectors and gappers might be too much.
Flop: We are just clicking buttons here.
Turn: Here we face somewhat interesting decision. At this point it feels that he is value betting or pulling out a cheap semibluff. I guess i missplayed here quite heavily. If i would be in his shoes i would be value betting 2 outter type hand like this. So at this point our hand is not vulnerable and we can call and hope we face another bet on river?
Quite late at the night. I hope its understandable and i didn't wrote complete bull****.
Waiting for some feedback, criticism. Cya!
Pre flop i defand all my co range vs such sizing. Postflop never rising turn never folding river.

Why post this?
W34z3l showed to ways, of calculating implied odds. I usually only used Method #2, but I want to apply Method #1, to see how much do I need to get payed off in average to be breakeven.
Math:
We have 6 outs to the nuts. We face a 0,10$ cbet, in a 0,22$ pot.
Turn equity (Teq): 6 / 47 = 12,7%
Money we need to make extra: (100 / Teq * cbet) - pot = (100 / 12.7 * 0,10) - 0,33 = 0,45.
At the time, I thought I needed to make a little less, but since 1 gapper straights are VERY hard to spot, I do think we get easy value and I don't even need to bluff very often. I can easily call, since he might instant check on any club and give up his hand pretty often.
### 2nd hand \(-.-)/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
$0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Known players:
[tg]BU (Hero)$10.03:///////;SB$9.21:///////;BB$3.10:///////;MP2$6.90:///////;MP3$5.07:///////;CO$6.76:///////;[/tg]
Preflop: Hero is BU with Q:d, K:d.
3 folds, Hero raises to $0.15, SB folds, BB calls $0.10.
Flop: ($0.32) 4:s, 8:d, J:d (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.15, BB calls $0.15.
Turn: ($0.62) 9:s (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.36, BB raises to $0.98, Hero ???.
Villain has 1,82$ behind.
Final Pot: $6.22.
Assumptions:
Villain seems very strong (straight or set) and fishy, and will most likely pay me off very often on any river. So I assume, he will call AT LEAST 50% of the time OTR. Since he can have a straight here very often, he will block one T. That's why I will reduce it from the outs.
Maths:
Pot equity: [Money at risk] / [Money I can win after call] = 0,62 / 1,96 + 0,62 = 0,244 = 24,4%
Equity: (9 diamonds + 2 tens) / 46 = 11/46 = 23,9%
Hence, calling if villain folds to any diamond or T OTR it would be a bad call (with rake big loss).
Now I assume he calls us off 50% of the time with his remaining stack:
Implied Pot equity: [Money at risk] / [Money I can win after call] + [Money I could win, if I complete my draw] = 0,62 / (1,96 + 0,62) + (0,5 * 1,82) = 17.7%
^Profit! $$$
### If I bluff, then what? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
$0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Known players:
[tg]BU (Hero)$6.69:///////;SB$5.00:///////;BB$5.00:///////;MP2$5.37:///////;MP3$6.09:///////;CO$5.14:///////;[/tg]
Preflop: Hero is BU with J:h, A:h.
3 folds, Hero raises to $0.15, SB raises to $0.45, BB folds, Hero calls $0.30.
Flop: ($0.95) 6:s, 5:h, 8:h (2 players)
SB bets $0.55, Hero ???
Maths:
We want to semibluff-raise this board. But is it profitable???
I'll use pokerstrategy's equilab for our equity calculation, giving villain only the option to either fold to my raise, or push all-in. I assume he will push with JJ+ and 55,66,88. This means, calculation wise I will act as if I shove the flop. So how often does villain have to fold his donk, to make my raise (+ shove call) profitable?
A :heart:J
VS. 55,66,88,JJ+ has 40% equity.
Pot: 0.95$
Facing cbet: 0.55$
Effective stacks PREFLOP: 5.00$
x = Foldequity
Times he calls = 1 - x = 100% - Foldequity
0= [Times he folds] * [Pot I win, if he folds] + [Times he calls] * [1 - equity] * [Minus-Investment I will lose] + [Time he calls] * [Equity] * [Pot(flop)+Villaincall] = x * (0.95 + 0.55) + (1-x) * 0.6 * (-4.55) + (1-x) * 0.4 * (1.50+4) = 1.5x - 2.73 + 2.73x + 2.2 - 2.2x = 2.03x - 0.53
x= 0.53 / 2.03 = 0.26
x = 26%
Now, he often will not even 3bet 55-88, but I still only need to fold out 26%. It's pretty amazing to go through these spots, since it shows, how profitable bluffing can be. He just needs to cbet the rest of the AKo and AKs hands, to make this play already breakeven. Now villain often won't 3bet 55-88 from the SB, so my equity will rise and the required foldequity go even lower.
I did this math quite a few times, and you have to make sure, that the numbers and +/- are correct, since I had to correct the equation like three times.
dat's it. Cu at teh tablez.
Thx VorpalF2F
Figured out the issue. Spoilers of my previous message contain the images now.
Thx anyway
Hi KingKas,
Here are my thoughts on your 2nd hand:
In your 2nd hand why discount one T if villain can be put on Sets and even a flushdraw top pair spades?
Would use a bigger betsize on the flop if I bet. What about just checking behind? Your hand is non vulnerable and likely to inprove on the turn. If BB checks again you could fire a 2/3-3/4 bet on the turn as a semi-bluff with quite some fold equity.
Here are my thoughts on your 3rd hand:
You hit a very nice flop and didn't call his preflop raise to fold to every Cbet. What type of player are we talking about? CbF stats? CbT stats?
Given the potodds you require 0.55/(0,55+1.05)=34% equity. SB 3Bet range is likely to contain bluff and semi-bluff range in addition to value range. Any ideas on his ranges? Your equity will be way higher than the calculated 40% I geuss.
Easy raise/shove I would say

Yes, I should bet at least 2/3 on the flop for sure. But I don't like checking behind. Here are some reasons why.
#1. With Flop and Turn barrel, we're likely to fold out most lower PP's and 4x and often 8x hands. He might decide to herocall, if we check flop.
#2. We might get called by FD's, and so extract value.
#3. He might want to X/R, and we rather get it in OTF than OTT.
#4. And we have maniac shortstacks on NL5, who just push A2o or lower FD's because they wan to be isildur2, and that's how we extract this kind of money of them.
Here are my thoughts on your 3rd hand:

He had 10% 3bet overall, and that's why I start defending wider. About cbet stats, he did cbet too much overall, which is expected, especially in 3bet pots. People don't like to 3bet and give up afterwards. I would never look at the exact Cbet%, I just use it to see, if they cbet with sense, or just most of their range or only for value.
But yeah, it's an easy raise. I would not shove though, to give him the opportunity to reshove with lower FD's, OESD etc.
