Hi guys, I just started to read this thread and so far it's very helpful!

I want to ask are these opening, 3betting, cold calling ranges are good to use in overall tighter zoom games?

Hi!

Will post my homework for part 6 (Can you Feel the Maths Tonight?) (Yeah, I can feel it :f_cool: )

SB: $18.54 (92.7 bb)
BB: $19.80 (99 bb)
UTG: $8 (40 bb)
MP: $12.08 (60.4 bb)
Hero (CO): $20 (100 bb)
BTN: $8.47 (42.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Q A
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.60, Hero calls $0.60, BTN folds, SB calls $0.50, BB calls $0.40

Flop: ($2.40) T 9 8 (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, MP bets $1.20, Hero calls $1.20, 2 folds

The open raiser plays 59/56 in 27 hands and is not a fullstack. That means that he might be a very bad aggressive player (maniac) and I could 3bet AQs for value there. Anyway, decided for a cold call.

The decision based on the pot odds was made on the flop. I hit a gutshot + nut flushdraw + two overcards. There are 9 :club: cards that give me the nut flushdraw, but I think I can count just 8 of them, because 8 :club: could make someone a fullhouse or four of a kind and the probability of that is higher since it is a multiway pot. There are 3 jacks out there (if we exclude J :club: now), which would make my straight. I would count just 2 more outs because someone can have KQ. In addition, there are 6 cards that can make me a top pair, but I wouldn't consider any Q as an out and would just take 1 of 3 aces as an out. So, I consider to have 8 + 2 + 1 = 11 outs.

Since the openner cbets flop in 43% of cases, I wouldn't consider that he cbets the turn always. But, since his cbet in this particular situation is very strong (giving the board and the multiway pot), I think I can say that he will cbet the turn in 50% of cases, which makes my pot equity equals 11*3, which is 33%.

Pot odds are 1,2/4,8 = 25%. So, I have more than enough equity for at least a call, which I did.

I don't want to post the rest of the hand because it looks ugly how I lost the hand when raise/called the turn..

SB: $14.60 (73 bb)
Hero (BB): $23.83 (119.2 bb)
UTG: $43 (215 bb)
MP: $20.90 (104.5 bb)
CO: $20.06 (100.3 bb)
BTN: $23.10 (115.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q K
2 folds, CO raises to $0.50, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.30

Flop: ($1.10) 6 T J (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.70, Hero calls $0.70

Turn: ($2.50) 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $1.60, Hero calls $1.60

I had there two decisions based on pot odds, on the flop and on the turn.

Hit OESD and two owers on the flop. I have 8 outs for OESD and at least 4 outs for a TP, I think. So, this makes total of 12 outs. Opponent barrels turn very frequently (83%) and I think I can calculate my pot equity as follows: 12 outs * 2,5 = 30%.

With his cbet, he gave me 0,70/2,50 pot odds, which is 28%. Since I have more equity than the pot odds are, this is a clear call.

On the turn I hit a flushdraw and I think I can count at least 5 outs more (out of theoretical 7), which means that I now have 17 outs. Therefore, my equity on the turn is 17*2 = 34%.

With the cbet, he gave me 1,6/5,7 = 28% pot odds. Since the estimated equity is higher than that, I can profitably call.

If you wonder, I didn't hit the river and had to check/fold. :f_mad:

SB: $20 (100 bb)
Hero (BB): $27.69 (138.5 bb)
MP: $21.50 (107.5 bb)
CO: $20 (100 bb)
BTN: $27.67 (138.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A T
MP folds, CO raises to $0.60, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.40

Flop: ($1.30) 4 6 Q (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.91, Hero raises to $2.80, CO folds

Hit a nut flushdraw on the flop. Since am OOP, I believe it's better to check raise as a semi-bluff, than to check/call because will have a harder time to extract the value on the turn and river if I hit, than I would have IP. I put 2,8€ into pot of 2,21€, which means that my semi-bluff have to be profitable in 2,8/(2,8+2,21) = 56% of cases. Since this player cbets alot (80% IP) and folded 1 of 1 to check/raises, I think I have more than enough fold equity to bluff.

Nevertheless, the 56% is a percentage in which all bluffs have to work in order to be profitable in this particular situation. Since I have a semi-bluff, which means that I might hit on the turn, I probably need even less fold equity on the flop. So, let's try to calculate this. Firstly, let's calculate my equity. I have 8 clean outs for a flushdraw (I discount 4 of diamonds because it could potentially give the opponent a fullhouse or a four of a kind). I think I can also add at least 2 Aces of 3 of them as outs for top pair, so that makes 8+2 = 10 outs. The probability that I hit on the turn is 10/47 = 21% and I can consider that as my pot equity. Pure pot odds of 29%, which he gave me with a cbet, are too big for just a check/call and I'm not sure how much implied odds do I have against this player oop. For the reason I didn't calculate the needed implied odds in previous hands. Let's do it now. Since I have 21% equity, I need to calculate the size of pot which would make 0,91€ as 21% of pot. This can be calculate as 0,91€*100/21 = 4,33€. In case I call the cbet, the pot would be 3,12€, which means I need 4,33€-3,12€ = 1,21€ of implied odds.

Also, if the opponent decided to 3bet standardly to 7€, I would need 4,2/ (1,30+0,91+2,8+6,09+4,2) = 4,2/15,3 = 27% equity to call the 3bet (remember that I have 21%, or maybe lower in case he 3bets becaue the probability of him having a set is then significally higher and I can discount my outs for TP). Probably folding would be a good option there, and keep in mind that semi-bluff is just a bluff and its primarily purpose is to make the opponent fold the better hands). For the equation, let's assume that he will always fold or call, and if he calls, I will always loose the pot if don't hit my outs.

If we mark the needed fold equity for break even bluff as x, the equation can be written as follows:
0 = x * size_of_pot_after_his_cbet + (1 – x) * (size_of_pot_after_his_cbet + size_of_his_call_to_my_raise) * my_pot_equity - (1 – x) * (1 - my_pot_equity) * size_of_my_raise
0 = x * 2,21 + (1 – x) * (2,21 + 1,89) * 0,21 – (1 – x) * (1 – 0,21) * 2,8
0 = x * 2,21 + (1 – x) * 4,1 * 0,21 – (1 – x) * 0,79 * 2,8
0 = 2,21x + (1 – x ) * 0,861 – (1 – x) * 2,212
0 = 2,21x + 0,861 – 0,861x – 2,212 + 2,212x
0 = 3,561x - 1,351
1,351 = 3,561x
x = 1,351 / 3,561
x = 0,3794
x = 38%

So, with our pot equity in this hand, we need just 38% of fold equity, which makes our bluff even more profitable.

See you with the next homework! (yes, I plan to do them all) :pokerface:

I created printable, easy to read 'dismantling 3betters' ranges.

thought someone might find it useful :f_thumbsup:

Hi, 7WaysToWin,
I've edited your post, as you can see.

Since speedyshare has a program whereby you make $ when people purchase the premium download option, using this service here might contravene our forum principles.

I've asked the ninjas to check this.

If I'm wrong, I'll be happy to put the link back.

Or, if you prefer, why not just post the ranges in here in Equilab format, that way, members could incorporate them into their own Equilab user-defined ranges?

Best regards,
--VS

equlab format was originally posted by w34z3l, but it might be hard to read during the game. Also matrixes don't show which combos are covered, thus printing screen-shots from equilab doesn't help much. I decided to create word document and use some colors.

I wasn't aware of the speedyshare thing :) If that's forbidden, I could use some hint, how to upload a .pdf file here :f_rolleyes:

Hi, 7WaysToWin...
Thanks for understanding.

I didn't know the the equilab format ranges had been posted.

Let's just leave things as they are for now. When the higher-ups get back to me we can decide what the best thing to do is.

I'll also get clarification on what the policy is on sharing files using box.com, google drive, drop box etc.

In the past when I have done so, I have done so by PM using the community tool, but with something as popular as this is likely to be that could get cumbersome.

All the best,
--VS

Hey all,

first of all: GREAT series! W34s3l your are awesome.

I have some questions:
1. If there is someone who plays exactly w34s3l's ranges: could you post some stats please (VPIP/PFR/3-Bet/Ft3B)
2. The ranges sound very loose for me (I'm a fullring nit who wants to try short handed), do you think it would be very bad if I cut down all open-raising-ranges by the bottom range and reduce the bluff-3-bets and coldcalling ranges a bit?

Thanks and see u at the tables _cool:

1. I play 95% the ranges. I think they are good and I would advice to play exactly them :)

2. I think you shouldn't cut anything. Having that said you should adapt
to the table, i.e you might cold call less if people on your left squeeze a lot (but this is very very rare to squeeze as much)

The stats you asked: 21/17/6/61

guys do you see any mistakes in this simple math? if yes correct please
playing 2 tables zoom u do 450hands/hour (at least i played couple of hours and get smth like this)
the good winrate is like 5bb/100 (is it ok estime? i have no clue)
so we have 450*5/100=22.5bb/hour
on NL10 its 2.25$/hour
the number is so low that i keep trying to find some mistake in calculations =/

I wish I could have 5bb/100.. :f_pleased:

But the calculation is correct! :)

Just kidding. I think 5 bb/100 is good, but it is possible to have more (like 10 or higher), at least I heard some regs can. :f_rolleyes:

I play the limit which I have a BR for and move up and down according to BRM. It's not that funny playing NL10 when you had to move from NL20, but nothing can do.. :f_cry:
