Not so sure.
These too will have a skill edge -- they are a lot like HU SnGs, with an added twist.
The trick will be FINDING the skill edge and exploiting it.

So far I'm dead break-even in these things -- about 100 of 'em so far.
What I do is figure out who the real competition is, and try to get HU with that villain.

But I agree that the gambling aspect of this format is far greater than the poker aspect.
So much like Bingo I've dubbed 'em Spingo. You may use the term freely without royalty or attribution.

But man are they fun!

Peace,

How many is "all"?

Hyper turbos are *extremely* high variance.

It is quite probable that you will have long streaks of losses and wins when playing games like this.

It is critical that your heads-up play is good, and that you understand ICM.

The game seems luck-based, but rest assured there is a huge amount of knowledge and skill involved.

Even so...

Best of luck,

Brag: I've just shipped a $300 one (10x $30), so the record has been renewed :f_grin: This wasn't hard because the prize pool size turned both opponents into folding stations :f_love:

The thoughts when I was registering were: Spin & Gos don't really require a warmup because they're fast and the edge I'm losing by being unfocused is small in a single tourney, as soon as it's 2x or 4x as almost always... wait, the first one is already 10x, wth :f_eek: I guess we still have to warm up properly because every single tourney can be 1200x.

(This reminds me of the advice to single women to make up every time before leaving the home because no one knows where and when their potential husband will appear :f_biggrin: )

This of course isn't comparable with the 'achievement' of a 6-max hyper reg called Quad-something who was unlucky to get only $3K for the 3rd place in one $30 Spin & Go.

Well if it me they're after (and they're not) they should leave the makeup off, since I think women look grotesque with all that goo on their faces.

Actually, I think a couple of Spingo games might be a good warmup in itself.

My point is that if the first Spingo happens to be 1200x, it will be too expensive a warmup :f_tongue: (I mean, you'll regret afterwards that you weren't fresh-minded).

I agree than women often look grotesque after making up.

Meanwhile, I hit another $300 Spingo on the same day, having played merely 40 Spingos yesterday.

Edit: now I've got three $300 games in 75 attempts at the $30 level, which happens 3.275% of the time; I won only one of them, though. Forgive my previous arithmetical mistake.

Sometimes I think that the life is reversely rigged for me. But when it gives an opportunity, it usually hurries to take it back. In the second $300, I had all-in EV +$173.40 (while in the first one it was +$140.44) but finished 2nd. That's poker, folks.

If your ITM overall is n% (n < 100) then you can more-or-less assume that your ITM in the 2x - 1200x games will be the same as in the 2x games.

As you point out, it may even be higher in the >2x games due to the anal clenching effect of the high prize pool.

Go get 'em tiger!

Congrats to our beloved hyperturbo SnG coach bernardc on winning $3000 for the 2nd place! Hopefully the winner (sksjohny) will reinvest the $30K into the poker economy.

At least 300 buy-inns. Most likely even more to kill the variance.

This is the article on Twister Poker, which is much the same thing...

http://www.pokerstrategy.com/strategy/sng/2351/1/

In there, the have the following line:

Hint 5: Bankroll-management
Due to the additional element of luck involved in deciding the prize pool, you should play the Twister Poker SNGs with a conservative bankroll management of at least 50 buy-ins.

My own thought is that 50BI is not very conservative at all.

BRM for standard SnGs is suggested to be "at least 50-100 BI" and these have much higher variance.

I am not sure what to think about this. It is either incredibly moronic, or ingenious.

So far I have thought that Pokerstars is bordering on the mad side of things, because of:

*selling play money (sic!) - albeit it is not nearly as mad as people who are actually buying it.
*withdrawing from several markets with no prior notice whatsoever.
*introducing Spin & Go.

Jackpot SNG's would make a lot more sense, but never mind that.

Tried out a few of them, the $1 variety. Now I am not a doctor, but I am sure I could diagnose 90% of the players are suffering from some kind of eyesight problems, as they can not find neither the "bet" nor the "fold" buttons.

Usuallt one player is out before the second hand begins, and then it is just HU play.

There might be some money to be earned here, there might not. In general it is about being able to break even and hope for a miracle to happen, and get one of the big tables. Winning that should be easy then. It appears namely that the sight of big monies does improve the eyesight of the donks, and they manage to find the "fold" button, and actually use it. :)

P.S. Hit one huge $4 tourney (out of 10 or so played) which I was donked from.

Definitely ingenious. These damn things are addictive even though you know you are being ripped off.

Just a casino game made to look like poker imo. Even the spinning prize wheel looks like a pokie machine.

Totally agree with " Usually one player is out before the second hand begins." The chip leader is then so far ahead that it is almost impossible for the smaller stack to catch up. So quite often the game is virtually over after the first hand. In the $1 games that is, don't know about the higher buy-ins.

You only have to win >~35% of the time, so the 1-to-2 chip deficit is bearable; it's an even slightly deeper setup than the usual HU hypers because the effective stack may sometimes go up to ~750 chips. If you, say, beat HU hypers with 3% ROI, which would be 5% if there was no rake, you win 500*5%=25 chips per game on average, and you'll win at least 25 chips on avg in a Spin & Go with a first-hand all-in, which means that your ROI will be at least 1% (5%-4%).

Of course you'll also be the winner of those first-hand all-ins more than 1/3 of the time if you figure out optimal ranges for calling and overcalling a shove that you suspect to be made with any two.

These games makes it harder for people who are trying to prove local governments that poker isn`t the same as slots. Now online poker ambassador most promoted game is slots included :f_mad:

If it wasn't for the chance of a big prize would anyone play these things? I very much doubt it.

And the odds of getting a big prize.
Have a look at the charts at the start of this thread. The odds are terrible.

Don't encourage Pokerstars by playing this crap.
