Day 39 (13 @ HU)

This has been good poker day!

Got 8.75 hours play in (not much sleep!!). Posted my hands and commented on lots of friends hands too.

Up 0.5BI and battled (what seemed like) decent player for far too long waiting for other muppets! Another victory for poker site rake imo :(

Ilidek says we can look at moving up in week or so. I really wanna stay solid until then so I can give it a shot!

He also set me small quiz on pre-flop adjustments and ranges which was good for me. Hope I got them all correct!? ;)

Driving to work this morning I got that overwhelming feeling of "why the hell am I doing this (work not poker)?" but I got bills to pay and family to look after so until I start rocking $5k+ months as standard its just tough luck - keep working and studying HARD!!!! I cannot rest until I am PRINTING!!!!!!!

Son seemed a bit better this morning. Can't wait to get home to family!

Plans for tomorrow...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Start making video summary of coaching (its written already)
  • Post hands
  • Comment on hands

In game...

  • Focus on correct pre-flop ranges
  • Analyse villain and adjust
  • Take time on decisions
  • Focus and be aware of losing focus

Some figures for last week...

Played 37.5 hours.
Studied ~ 24 hours
Lost $18 (and two teeth :) )

Day 40 (14 @ HU)

You did not tell me about rake-back did you!!!!

Actually I got so involved in learning how to play HU that I totally forgot about RB which is totally unprofessional of me. I was not sure if was due any yet so looked up the details from when I joined ipoker and saw that I get RB paid directly into my account. So then I thought damn I have already taken it into account! But then looked at balances and compared to PT4 and seemed there was no RB :(. Took me 15 minutes to find they paid it into my sports book account on ipoker! :)

So I got nearly 7 buy-ins of rake back back!! Bonus!

Also won 3BI at the tables last night, hit some big hands when villains decided to spew a bit :)

I have got 10k hands now at HU...

Very small sample but am quite happy with things so far - in fact I am VERY happy :)

So now I am actually up around $45 at heads up! (This includes FDB and RB ofc)

Let's look at yesterday...

  • Play 5.5 hours DONE!
  • Start making video summary of coaching (its written already) Changed plan on this to doing some HH analysis...
  • Post hands DONE!
  • Comment on hands DONE!

In game...

  • Focus on correct pre-flop ranges GOOD!
  • Analyse villain and adjust GOOD!
  • Take time on decisions GOOD!
  • Focus and be aware of losing focus Did drift a good few times. Need to make sure I recognize it first and work on staying in zone...

Plans for tomorrow...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Continue spreadsheet of HH analyses
  • Post hands
  • Comment on hands

In game...

  • Focus on correct pre-flop ranges
  • Analyse villain and adjust
  • Take time on decisions
  • Make notes of when focus drifts (find causes)

Roll Update.
Bankroll = $1942
Start = $1962
Profit/loss = -$20

Day 41 (15 @ HU)

Good day. Won 0.75BI and played solid I think.

I played 2 tables for a while to see how I get along. Suddenly I found I cannot take notes so well so I need to practice at this. I was only playing two people if they seemed very bad. If decent player sat me I left him so long as got action elsewhere. I am happy playing anyone at one table but at two table for now I stick to (bigger) idiots ;)

Let's look at yesterday...

  • Play 5.5 hours Played 5, was falling to sleep and miss-read board twice :(
  • Continue spreadsheet of HH analyses Good work on this, very happy
  • Post hands Posted 3.
  • Comment on hands Commented on 10

In game...

  • Focus on correct pre-flop ranges Good!
  • Analyse villain and adjust Good!
  • Take time on decisions Good!
  • Make notes of when focus drifts (find causes) Was very tired but noticed I drift away at times especially if I think villain is easy to beat. Need to work on this as every bb counts!!

Plans for tomorrow...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Continue spreadsheet of HH analyses
  • Post hands
  • Comment on hands

In game...

  • Focus on correct pre-flop ranges
  • Analyse villain and adjust
  • Take time on decisions
  • Continue working on focus and attention (mindfulness)

Let's do it!! :)

Day 42 (16 @ HU)

Great day!! Ran pretty cold at tables and played couple of "decent" players. Had some trouble v one guy who was opening 94% and cbetting 90%+ and could not hit hands to attack his weak range then ofc one time I did he actually had it - this is why we LOVE this game correct!? ;)

Ended up a few cents but was more happy with overall performance - good patience and think I made good adjustments.

Yesterday...

  • Play 5.5 hours Done!
  • Continue spreadsheet of HH analyses Done!
  • Post hands 3
  • Comment on hands 10

In game...

  • Focus on correct pre-flop ranges 10/10
  • Analyse villain and adjust 10/10
  • Take time on decisions 8/10
  • Continue working on focus and attention (mindfulness) Really good, moved some stuff to 2nd monitor and turned monitor off unless needed! Focus wandered few times and snapped back in to the game all times.

Plans for tomorrow...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Continue spreadsheet of HH analyses
  • Post 3 hands
  • Comment on 10 hands

In game...

  • Focus on correct pre-flop ranges
  • Analyse villain and adjust
  • Take time on decisions
  • Continue working on focus and attention (mindfulness)

Gogogo!!! :)

Day 43 (17 @ HU)

Another great day at the tables! Had good battle with an aggressive reg (good practice ;) ). Pretty sure I adjusted well against him and he kept asking me questions in chat "why you do XXX, why you do YYY" etc. He was not going to SD too easily so had to make a few of those calls where you close your eyes and pray. Never been too religious but it worked today ;)

Focus was really good first 3 hours of session but then did waiver for next 2.5 hours, had to keep forcing myself back into focus. I mean, this is to be expected as I been at work 10 hours already and still not used to 5.5 hour sessions anyway (plus still taking medication FTW) but I am working on this and it is definitely getting better.

Learned some great stuff in the forum studying HH replies - thanks to BPC guys for help today ;)

Today's graph...

I think I am beating NL4 now pre RB which I am super happy about! Will check tonight as its month end etc.

Indeed, the more you work, the more you appreciate (and enjoy) a good rest!
Plus, it looks like you're a great hubby :)

Have a good relaxing day!

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” - Calvin Coolidge.

I really like that quote - specifically the reference to people with wasted talent/education/genius but of course the reference to persistence (its the only one of the four I can have ;) ) as well. I don't like seeing wasted talent, but seeing someone rewarded for continued persistence is a real joy to me.

Had a fantastic 24 hours off. Great night out with wife and then nice time with kids watching movie at home and slobbing around!

Had a short card dead session and got to showdown out kicked but it was only short. I see some of my mates having bad time (variance) at the tables lately. I am ready and waiting for these tests (not excited much!).

Graph (since last update).

Roll Update.
Bankroll = $1953
Start = $1962
Profit/loss = -$9

(Played 36.75 hours last week and studied ~ 20hours. Got tough week this week so aim is 35 hours play and 15 hours study - anything else is bonus!)

Plan for today...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Post hands
  • Comment on mates hands
  • Study 15 old HH's
  • Adjust to villains preflop
  • Focus on attention to table/action

Feeling GOOD!! Let's PRINT!!

Good luck everybody (except villains)!!!

Day 47 (21 @ HU)

Ok I am giving myself real talking to today! :(

I really let myself down at the tables last night. My focus was terrible.

I cannot quite figure out what triggered it. I went into the session looking forward to playing solid and sticking to easy play and I just lost focus. I did not make any massive mistakes but my mind was all over the place. Focus was terrible, maybe worst ever.

I was really not looking at what villain was doing and making adjustments hardly at all. Just sort of on auto-pilot.

Some things that may have triggered this...

  1. PC needs some work on it (I was ending session 0030hrs and needed to drive to take it to my friend so he can repair while I am at work now) so that was on my mind.
  2. Entitlement. Maybe I think I am "King Of NL4" or something just because I got back to decent winnings now (I can work on this so this is ok, just concerned if it was THE reason or not).
  3. Lack of challenge. This is similar to 2 and is possible also. Sometimes difficult to stay in the zone when it is not pushing you to some limits (I really hope its not this too much as I have run good at NL4 and I would be an idiot to think I am good enough yet).
  4. I could not get action (only like 10 minute gaps max). Yeah villain's won't play me ;). No, I think ipoker is really bad lately (lots of disconnects) and some people maybe are not playing. During waiting I always do something to study even if just reading my notes but sometimes I think I struggle to get back into zone again. Need to think hard about how to improve this.

Graph For Day

Well it is not too bad the graph. Lost AK v KK preflop for 95bb and finished above that point but this is not the issue. I played without focus and this is not what true professionals do. I have spotted it and this I will work very hard on now - no matter what!!! (All ideas welcome - I am thinking along some mindfulness routes atm)

Yesterday...

  • Play 5.5 hours No! Did 5 hours - had to take pc to hospital! That is forgiven tho... :)
  • Post hands Done!
  • Comment on mates hands Done!
  • Study 15 old HH's Done! (and some more)
  • Adjust to villains preflop Not good enough!
  • Focus on attention to table/action Shocking bad SORT THIS!!!

Today...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Post hands
  • Comment on mates hands
  • Study 15 old HH's
  • Adjust to villains preflop
  • Focus on attention to table/action

I am also making a plan to comment on more hands in forum each day. Not sure about this but will try it today and implement tomorrow if I think it is good.

Ok, breathe....

I calmed down a bit from the anger (at myself) now. See the mistake, work on it, come back stronger...

Gogogogo!

Day 48 (22 @ HU)

Really happy today! Focus was excellent. I know it is reaction to my bad day and beating myself up but still I had to recognise the points where I drifted and try to snap back into the game.

It helped having two monitors - when I have no action I look at last villain (or HH's etc) in PT4 on monitor 2 and as soon as I get action again I turn that monitor off. That is a good start!

PC came back firing on all guns! Fastest ever! Had to remake my HUD and reconfigure some stuff but that's no problem (need decent HUD anyway ;) ).

Graph for day...

Had a good match versus a Russian for a couple of hours. I kept gradually wearing him down to 40bb then he would cooler me in a "big" pot a couple of times (QQ < 77 AI pre (40bb) sort of thing)! It must have been 2 hours and more then he said "I am going to look for fish" - "You mean your luck has run out?" I said!

Ran well in small pots and card distribution and poor in bigger pots.

Think I played really solid last night (for my ability ;) ) and kept out the small mistakes more. Really happy.

Yesterday...

  • Play 5.5 hours Done!
  • Post hands Done!
  • Comment on mates hands Done 10.
  • Study 15 old HH's Done!
  • Adjust to villains preflop To my best ability!
  • Focus on attention to table/action Best ever!

Today...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Post hands
  • Comment on ALL mates hands
  • Study 15 old HH's
  • Adjust to villains preflop
  • Focus on attention to table/action

Bring it on!!!! :f_cool:

Day 49 (23 @ HU)

Good day!!! Studied loads today. Commented on EVERY new hand on the forum and also studied some old ones my coach commented on.

Focus was good again and I am getting more and more used to playing 5.5 hours after a day at work :). Now I got my focus back I noticed two big things too:- 1. I make tonnes of notes on players and 2. I mark more hands to review. So that's a good way to see/monitor my focus too!

However... I did two miss-clicks today which I really don't like. First one cost me 100bb+...

€0.02/€0.04 No Limit Holdem
2 Players
Hand Conversion Powered by weaktight.com

Stacks:
BTN (€4.28) 107bb
hero (BB) (€6.41) 160bb

Pre-Flop: (€0.06, 2 players) hero is BB 2♠ 3♠
BTN calls €0.02, hero checks

Flop: 5♣ 4♠ K♦ (€0.08, 2 players)
hero checks, BTN bets €0.08, hero goes all-in €6.37, BTN goes all-in €4.16

Turn: 7♥ (€10.69, 2 players, 2 all-in)

River: 5♦ (€10.69, 2 players, 2 all-in)

Did not see exactly what I did but I must have free-typed in something weird as I don't have an "all-in" button or anything. At least I had some equity to get excited about!!

That one made me a bit angry but then I did it again later although I just did a min3b that time instead of a bigger one so was not so expensive. Just actually made me more angry because I was focussing on not doing it! I guess it happens and just need to be careful. I almost always let go of the mouse and keyboard on every single action so kinda no excuses really.

Graph (for day)...

Not too bad seeing as I threw 100bb down the pan (well, would have XR anyway and lost some ;) ) and also lost all-in pre JJ<AK so results ok. More interested in my play than results LDO and I think it was really good.

Yesterday...

  • Play 5.5 hours - DONE!
  • Post hands - DONE!
  • Comment on ALL mates hands - DONE 23!!
  • Study 15 old HH's - DONE (and logged the gems)!!
  • Adjust to villains preflop - GOOD!
  • Focus on attention to table/action - EXCELLENT!!

Today...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Post hands
  • Comment on ALL mates hands
  • Study 15 old HH's (and file gems)
  • Look at/check bet-size before clicking!
  • Focus on attention to table/action

Can't be long 'til coach returns and maybe we can look at moving up!????

Let's do this thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Another great day! Loads of forum work, good play at the tables, focus not 100% but had some "issues" going on but still good overall. I am becoming a forum whore. And I like it.

  • Post hands - DONE!
  • Comment on ALL mates hands - DONE 26!!
  • Study 15 old HH's (and file gems) - DONE!
  • Look at/check bet-size before clicking! - DONE!
  • Focus on attention to table/action - Good 7/10

Today...

  • Play 5.5 hours
  • Post hands
  • Comment on ALL mates hands

  • Look at/check bet-size before clicking!
  • Focus on attention to table/action

I am trying to plan the weekend. I am pretty well on target to get everything done as planned. I am way ahead on study hours. If I get my 5.5 hours of play in tonight after work then I need to find 45 mins extra. My 24 hour break won't happen this week then. Will play those 45mins and make a Youtube video during that period - but NO MORE!! (As a side-note, burn-out has been my main concern [well other than being a dunce] whilst doing CFP. So far it is going ok. Not "brilliant" but "ok" ;) )

Desperate to move up!!! (Need coaches permission and he's on well deserved vacation)

Bring it on baby!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Hey dude, I've been following your blog and have been waiting for you to reach the 50-day mark to make a comment. By coincidence you happen to comment about the burn-out concern I had for you in the same post. If you remember when you started I said the following:

168 hours in a week and you plan for work and poker to take up 105 of those. I assume sleep at around 45 hours minimum leaving you about 18 hours a week for EVERYTHING else that needs to get done. Do you have any days off planned to give yourself a break so you don't burn out?

I'm not saying you can't do it, just that it is a crazy commitment for you and your family. Good Luck and hope it works out for you.

That was before I knew you were planning a 24-hour poker free day (which is a great and necessary idea), but that also means that those 6 days are even crazier than I imagined.

I just wanted to say that I am truly impressed with how well you've been able to commit to this. Not just you, but your family as well - I hope you realize and appreciate how rare a thing that level of sacrifice and support is. I'm sure you do.

Hopefully you take this in the spirit it is intended - as someone on the outside recognizing your hard work and dedication. (and maybe a bit of extra motivation to keep going when it gets tough :) ).

Best wishes and I'll keep following your journey.
