Hey,

Regarding the laptop:

Since you want to run all of those things and since hm2 takes up so much power. It's pretty important to have ssd and i7 for optimal performance. And lime someone mentioned I rather spend a little extra and have the laptop for 3-5 years.

I think hest bang for your buck right now is likely the lenovo y50 which is what I'm planning to buy (after I have 20k month hopefully :p). Its fast, has a lot of memory and great resolution.

You can of course get i5 eith ssd to save money but it wont be as good.

Lastly if it comes with windows8 try contacting the company and asking them to toss you a win7 for free ($~90) and tell them you don't want win 8.

When searching just filter for what you want. Can use sites like newegg, tigerdirect, amazon, think pcpartpicker might display laptops as well I don't remember. If you have more questions you know where to reach me :).

Dude, the lenovo y50 costs like... my whole bankroll :f_biggrin:

My bf did talk about getting an ssd aswell. He said we'd just buy one seperately and put it in ourselfs, as that would end up cheaper. I don't need the sickest performing laptop out there atm, my BR can't afford that anyway. Something in the medium range should still be decent enough. :)

Good point about win8. I never tried it but I heard people basically hate it. Thanks a bunch for the tips :f_love:

http://slickdeals.net/f/7453626-250gb-samsung-840-evo-internal-solid-state-drive-ssd-100-free-shipping

on like page 2 or 3 they were talking about how to save even more by getting it on rakuten. It's still a good deal at $100. No idea if they ship to where you are or not, I likely could get it for you and ship it to you if they dont. Given you research how much it costs to ship and it actually makes sense. And also you are okay with me doing that in the first place, I obviously don't want to be responsible if somehow it gets damaged (it shouldn't with the packaging job they do now) but obviously don't want you to hate me or be upset.

hm2 thread on how to improve performance for future reference:
http://forums.holdemmanager.com/general-support/494402-hm2-performance-tips.html

Obv up to you if you want to go with i5 or i7. HM2 is threaded according to my nerdy friend which means it uses all cores so try to get quadcore. Could also find a refurbished laptop possibly. Just don't rush it and look around on all of these sites.

lol why do u guys hate win8 so much? I have it since they came out (could upgrade my win7 back then for 20€ or so) and I am nothing but pleased with them (not even mentioning my computer reboots in like 10 seconds with win8 lol). :]

I knew you wouldnt be able to stay away... :f_love: But yea, on a serious note I'd like more feedback on win7 vs win8... anyone? :)

crappy, crappy day... Already had a headache when I woke up, and so far nothing seems to ease it... :f_frown: hope its not a symptom of the flue or something, its not impossible since I feel a bit sore at the back of my neck too... Hopfully Its just because I slept rly bad.

Not making any excuses not to work hard today though, worst case I can just move down and crush some souls at NL10/NL5 :f_biggrin:

As in you are sick, didn't get enough sleep, or your muscles are just too tight? That will help determine what you should do to feel better. Sleep=bad nutrition, possibly too much caffeine, possibly bad sleeping environment. Muscles being tight could also make you feel shitty. Few neck stretches here:

Hi Vonki!

Have you thought about getting a desktop instead? :f_grin: That's what I went for eventually when I realized my old laptop was no good for serious poker... think you get better price for a good performance. Well, my pc was above your price range but I guess it would not cost as much as it did a few years back... I love the performance! Later, I also got a quadcore laptop, but I think it does not have ssd and it sucks (so slow!) compared to the desktop...

The only advantage of having a laptop is if you travel a lot and play when travelling... otherwise desktop is something to think about :f_wink: :f_biggrin:

Hi dear :f_love:

I actually thought about it too. At first it seemed like a great idea, but the problem is that i DO travel alot. I travel back to Sweden as often as I can and I also plan on making other trips in the next few years and when I go to sweden I stay there for like 2 weeks or so most of the time... 2 weeks without poker that frequently is just not possible :f_rolleyes: But thats also why I'm not neccessarily looking for a top end laptop, I can still get a desktop later and just use the laptop when I'm traveling... :f_biggrin: although to be honest, I have been using my dads old stationary lately (I stole it with me to germany because I felt my laptop was getting too slow and overheating alot :f_rolleyes: ) and I have to say the amount of noise it makes compared to the laptop is driving me absolutely insane... :f_eek: are newer desktops also like that nowadays?

-------------------------------------------------------------

I also did some stretching yesterday... and after relaxing with my heating bottle for a while I was able to put in SOME volume even though to be honest, I probably wasnt at my A-game yesterday... almost 3k hands and a few hours off table work makes me pretty happy with the days efforts considering the circumstances though!

UPDATE 8 291/80 000 = 10,3%

Didn't wake with a headache today so hoping my game will be a bit better today... :f_love:

OMG, 2 weeks w/o poker, that would really suck big time :f_biggrin: well I guess you have no choice then... noise? What noise!! I cannot hear the PC running at all, it's not like laptop where you hear the fan this is just pure silence :f_grin: but ok, my PC is 2 yo and it's a so called workstation if it makes any difference (I am not a pc geek so idk). Will see how silent it is in 5 years :f_biggrin:

I know right!!! :f_biggrin: Hmmm. No noise you say? I shall have to reconsider then. Well I need a laptop first of all, but when I start spewing around on your limits I probably also get myself a new stationary then :f_cool: :f_ugly:

No idea why my internet is so grumpy today... tons of smaller disconnections and simple tasks such as opening an email takes up to 5 seconds at times... :f_frown: it's on days like these I really consider moving back to Sweden and my fiber connection... :f_mad: hopfully it will get better towards the evening so I can put in some volume today, I was doing rly good on my volume target so far! :f_eek:

Hi, vonki! Subscribed to your blog, btw. :)

About the computer noise. It's not a matter of desktop computers, laptop computers can also be noisy. It's usually because of microprocessor's fan (cooler), which have a purpose to lower the temperature of microprocessor. It collects dust over time and at some point could become noisy, and some lower quality coolers are noisy by default. Sometimes cleaning the system (blowing) could resolve the problem. There are also other mechanical, moving parts in computer which could be noisy, but mainly the noise is because of the CPU cooler. So, before you buy a new PC, you should also seek for one with quality cooler (nowadays the best ones are water coolers).

Also, I would recommend a desktop computer instead of laptop, because of better value for money. Of course, if mobility is important to you, then you don't have a choice.

Best of luck with your goals and buying a PC! :)

I have fibre optic and it's playing up today anyway. As for the noise, make sure to invest in a more upmarket fan if possible, the cheaper ones are, well, cheap! My desktop is virtually silent though, when I'm spewing stacks and tilting the last thing I need is distracted!

Nice job on the podcast by the way, even though I had to catch up later!

Regarding computer: Building your own computer will always leads to cheapest and most powerful machine, I recommend going with liquid cooling. My computer is nearly silent even after 3 or 4 years of owning it now. The nice thing about building your own, you can pick out exactly what kind of case you want and what not, and whenever you decide you want to upgrade a part, you just take out an old one and put in the new one, or if you want to have two ssds, you just add it on, but you would want a bigger case so there is room for all of that. What I did back in the day when I was less educated about this stuff is just paid a site to put it together for me, I just picked out all of the parts I wanted, which is fine because it saved me some time but now if I was to do it all over again I would put it together myself. Lots of videos on how to do that on youtube.

Internet: Often times you can fix your internet problems by simply restarting the router. The next step to improve your internet speed which I'm guessing you haven't done is setting the DNS to OpenDNS. In simple terms it just basically means how your machine communicates with the internet. It's quite easy to do. Start>control panel>network and internet>network connections. Right click on your network connection whatever it's called>properties. Click on internet protocol version 4 (TCP /IPv4) click properties. Switch obtain DNS server address automatically to Use the following addresses and type in those numbers. It should look like this: http://gyazo.com/0463ae80d982fecd4690349886d8979d

You can use 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220, or 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. or what I have. I haven't done any research on which ones are the best. This will make your internet faster.

Win 8 vs Win 7: lots of articles on this on google. I want to troll you but I won't :). Basically even my super nerdy friend that works with computers quite a lot said that as soon as he got his laptop he updated :f_biggrin: from Win 8 to 7 and that Win 7 is just much better. I can ask him why if you really want me to but I didn't bother.

Just to confirm that I'm right, go to speedtest.net before you do this, save the result, then do this and speed test again see the result the 2nd time.

PS: Can you hurry up and get rich so I can start charging you for this info, it seems like I forgot how to play over my break and down 4k so far :(.

You're like my very own wikipedia :f_biggrin: not much chance with that happening anytime soon though, even though I'm nowhere near 4k down I'm also not having the best start to the month... :f_frown: Oh well, hopefully volume will sort that out :f_biggrin: stuff you wrote up there is in greek tho, i'll forward it to the greek speaking person and instruct him to do that before and after stuff too... :)

Thanks, solid advice there :f_thumbsup: I learned alot last few days! Sadly mobility is a must though. So first off a laptop, and once I start raking in big bucks, guess I might consider buying a badass stationary too. :f_ugly:
