Hi, Svinhugg,
I was just going to start playing on WH again.
The last time I played there -- about 2 months ago -- it was nit city.
Cheers,

Hey chaps. I play simply for sh1ts and giggles and was interested in yr thread. I'd say there is a huuuuge disparity between normal 'slow' tables and zoom (or fast fold) esp. at NL2. It's attritional on fast-fold as everyone folds loads and ppl rarely bluff. It seems like PS just slowly takes everyones money as rake. Now 'normal' tables, different story. My winrate is like 5x higher, plus it's waaay more fun as you aren't just relentlessley stealing from nitty players. I think part of the problem is lack of info in fast fold. There's such a huge player pool that by the time you've figured out someone is a lag spazz monkey they've already been busted by a nit station. I'm not dissing zoom higher up the food chain but at the nanos it blows.

Hi, redrawstump,
It is surprising how often the same names come up, and how often they do the same things.
Notes and colour coding help.
Player pools are smaller at sites that aren't PokerStars

That was not a really serious statement. It is such a small sample. It was more a thought I have that such a small population could change its behaviour just cause of something like "W34z3ls walktrhough".
I don´t know if it´s "Nit city" rahter "Tag city". Theres a lot of players with almost similar stats. VPIP of 26-26.5 , a PFR of 22-23 and a 3Bet of 7. They play a lot of hands so they could of course be bots but they could of course be good students to.

About the maniacs - we all have our streams of lucky cards. A few times I have run up to 10 buyins on iPoker but they doesn´t give anything in the long run. It is the tedious play with a few percent up or down that makes difference.
I have a sample of more than 10 players that have a VPIP of 90% or more and have green numbers. But none of them have made a footprint larger than 200 hands in my database so I guess they doesn´t last long.

Hi, MaNiaC86,
This is an old article:
The 8 Player Types - How to Get Their Money
I bookmarked it long ago, and read it now and again. The new version has only 5 player types, but I couldn't find it just now.
[Edit: found it:]
The Five Player TypesWhat you say in your first post is pretty much spot on, but bear in mind that your 40% VPIP there is a clue to how others play back at you. You say it yourself in the first line or so:
1. Stay away of the nittys when they raise, and bluff them at small pots, it's almost impossible to beat these guys at a showdown.
The way to play against the very loose, very aggressive player (from the article) is:
from the article
When facing a maniac, you should:play tight
induce bluffs
refrain from bluffing yourselfBut the most important thing is that you change your play to match your opponent.
I had a bit of a revelation over the last few days. I tightened way up to 17/13 yet I had one of the best sessions I've ever had.
I did it primarily because the other players I was meeting were being very active and very aggressive pre-flop and it was fun to be ready for them with the goods.
I love playing at tables with two nits on my left and a very loose player on my right.
If its the other way around, I find another table.Really great thread!

If you want my opinion on both videos is that there is not any video that will describe all types of players because poker is an infinite complex game, so you have to use your brain at all times. Poker is a game of people not just cards, and each opponent is a whole different story.
So if you really ask me what's my style I will ask you who's my opponent, I don't play LAG neither TAG, sometmes I play aggressive and others I'm just passive, my opponent's tedencies dectate how I'll play.
In poker what we really must do is to make reads on how our opponent plays and try put him on a range hopping that he will keep doing tha same thing, at the same time we must mix up our game in order to make it difficult from him to read our hand, there is a big problem here, some opponents try to mix it up just like us so we have to find a way to predict it whenit happens.
I struggled a lot with that problem until one day I read somewhere the saying "The best way to create future is to create it" and that was what made me to put the LAG style in my arsenal.
Like this I didn't have to worry so much if they would try to mix it up because I was there almost everytime the decide to play and I was raising most of the time so they had to make some adjustments and these adjustment where the default adjustments that videos decribe.
Why do I have to guess what adjustments they try to make when I can "tell" them what to do through my style?
Now they were doing what I want them to do and that was their greatest mistake because they gave up mixing up their game in order to confuse all others (include me) and they tried to match up to my game in order to beat me without knowing that I have the same knowledge about these default adjustments and they can't work against me. At the same time I was trapping naturally and the biggest victims of that kind of play were the TAGs and if you can beat those guys then beating everyone else is just a matter of time.
But once again that just a srategy among many and it was 1 year ago, now I play a lot of different, I start play 5NL and I hope I will have about he same results after a 6 month period.
About the videos you mention, both of them have some mistakes and I will speak about two mistakes of each one...
1. At "The 8 player types" the decription below says: In the low limits it is not so important to develop specific “reads” on each opponent in order to precisely analyse them. Chances are, you will never see them again after the game.
I think this is wrong bacause it contrasts to the fundamental theorem of poker and if you think that you have the luxury to play without improve your reads it will not be far until someone better will join your table and make your life a lot of difficult, you'll try to avoid him and change table and then you'll see that he plays at the 10 more profitable tablew at that speific stake. You don't really want other sharks in your see eating most of your fishes, you want them for your own so you have to beat the competition!
2. At "The 5 Player Types" at the TAG section it says: You have only one option against TAGs, play a tight game.
I have already answered why and how is better to play against them, they are good players but they are still humans and they make mistakes like everyone does, espesially if they make the default adjustments against a thinking opponent that knows what their doing and how far he can push them.
This is something you really have to see!
Everyone should know that if a NIT with no more than 10% VPIP calls your preflop raise and then calls your Cbet on a dry board like 7♣:3♥:K♦: it means trouble.
I have more than 300 hands history on this guy and he never crossed his ultra tight line before and I don't think he will ever do it again after this hand.
When I mention that I trap naturally with my style I was thinking exactly some spots like this where opponents lower their standards in order to outplay me. The fact is that when a NIT (like the guy you'll see at this hand) gets looser and tries to beat me with hero calls he gets in my territory (the post flop game) giving up his only advantange, the tight game.
I know that when he calls my Cbet on this flop he propably beats me but I still have to bet the turn because I know that he could have some pocket pairs ( :8x::8x:, :9x::9x:, :Tx::Tx: or even :Jx::Jx: and :Qx::Qx: ), on the river I make two pairs and for sure I have to bet again because now I can beat more hands of his range, I can beat :Ax::Kx:, :Kx::Qx:, :Kx::Jx:.
If he raise me all-in at this spot he will have any set with :3x::3x:, :7x::7x:, :9x::9x:, :Tx::Tx:, rarely these guys slowplay :Kx::Kx: but I'm sure he would have 3bet preflop because I opened for the minimum and he would like to build at least a medium size pot before the flop, so I exlude KK here. I also exlude :Qx::Jx: for a straight and that means that if he raise me on the river he will have a set and sometimes he will raise me with :Ax::Kx: because he's convinsed that I have a weaker made hand by the river.
In conclusion, I think he could have three hands that I beat and he will call and with one of them he might raise or he could have four hands that beat me... so if I'm about to lose with two pairs vs a set I will be ok.
So I bet, he calls, omg this NIT called my three barrels with...
Here is the hand, enjoy it....

Hey MaNiaC86,
Bravo on crushing your limit. Is that 28bb/100 all playing FR?
Regardless -
This would suggest you need to move up. If you're no longer being challenged then it seems logical that your learning is likely to plateau.

now go ask negreanu if he intended to say all that as playable strategy at 1cent - 2cent blinds no limit holdem
I can't tell you what Negreanu thinks about 2NL but I can tell you for sure that many of his strategies can appy very well at this limit. I think that this motto will be always true at any limit!
I play 5NL and I plan to start 10NL from the next year. The reason that I have such a big sample at 2NL is because I made some withdraws at the past. Also my style has big variance and requires a strict bankroll management to avoid getting broke and need to make a deposit.
How do you keep Non-Showdown graph positive?? ![]()
This is my graph for 24k hands. Sitting at 12bb/100h, 11vpip and 7 pfr
http://postimg.org/image/6w266ujjl/
For me is more difficult to keep high the blue line, the red line is raised naturally because my aggressive style gets a lot of folds from my opponents.
I need something to start with and this is your 11% VPIP, If you ever had played against me I will already have you marked with purple colour which is the colour I use for Nit opponents. So we could say that the problem is that you play too tight but before I get too simplistic I will stop my self and I will tell you that this is not necessary a bad thing, it's just exploitable.
A year ago, when I started write all these, I wanted to give another perspective of the game at micro stakes and I think that I have achived that. If you have read everything here you must have at least an idea of how I play. The whole plan is to play many hands and play them aggressively and at the same time find your opponents weaknesses and exploit them before they manage to exploit yours.
Easy to say but hard to do right ? Yes it is... and because it's a hard thing to do, I will keep it very simple to you by just tell you how to improve the style you already have and not how to play like me. Just keep mind that if you do what I'll tell you your winrate might increase but your playing style will still be far for optimum or from what I think is the optimum.
First things first... we search for a way to increase your non-showdown wins without affect the showdown wins.
1. According to your VPIP percentage you must avoid to play 6-max or other shorthanded formats, also never play at any format that has an Ante. This is the most important thing you have to do to increase your non-showdown winrate, in fact you will not increase it but you make it less negative compared to your showdown winrate.
Use the filters to take these tables out of your sight
2. You haven't told me what's your Cbet % on the flop. What you have to do is to keep it high, at least 80% and at some cases you'll still have to fire 2nd barrels with some draws.
Avoid getting passive most of the time, that's a serious step that you have to make if you want to play winning poker.
It's proven that if you only check and call you have 1 way to win the pot, you have to have the best hand at the showdown. If you bet and raise you have 2 ways to win the pot, the first is that you have the best hand and the second is that your opponent folds.
I udrestand that it's more difficult for you increase your Cbet % than just avoid 6-max tables but this is what will really boost you non-showdown winrate.
It will get you out of your comfort zone for a while but really don't be afraid to do it, your range is so tight that will make your thinking opponents to fold most of the time... Just keep C-betting and transorm from weak tigth to a tight bully ♠_evil:
3. Now you'll get tricky and you'll mix it up a little...
I can speak all day about that but others have said all these staff before me and you really have to search, read, watch videos etc.
I really recomend you to read SUPER SYSTEM by Doyle Brunson and Power Hold'em Strategy by Daniel Negreanu, both speak about a more LAG approach to the game. I think SUPER SYSTEM is a "must read book" for you!
So... try to do all that and show us your graph after another 24k hands
I have 90% cbet flop and 25% cbet turn ![]()
Thanks for the feedback! Will try the strategy!
