Time to make a recap of the January, 2015.

All in all, it was a successfull month. I managed to take the first shots at NL25 and had an overall profit of nearly 300$ at one point. Then I hit a downswing and lost a half of it, but the total earnings are still almost like for the whole last year. :D I had some issues with the bad mood after hitting a downswing at the higher limit, so didn't manage to play as much hands as I planned. That's certainly something that I have to work on. I think I've made some improvements in my game, especially thanks to coachings with w34z3l, but I feel like I could do a bit more, but didn't because of the mentioned poor mindset. The most important aspects I have to work on in February are expanding 3bets from all positions, folding less to 3bets (especially on the BTN) and folding less to cbets.

Anyway, here are the graphs and stats for January 2015:

#1 Total net earnings (NL2, NL5, NL10, NL16, NL20 and NL25): 68,47 USD

Spoiler

#2 Total earnings (including rakeback): 145,70 USD

Spoiler

#3 Average time spent on playing per day: 1h 52 min

Spoiler

#4 Average earnings per hour: 2,42 USD

Spoiler

Current BR: 1.010,07 USD

The plan for February is to play NL10 and NL16 untill reaching 1.100,00 USD and then take another 4 BI's shot at NL25.

Stay tuned! :f_thumbsup:

Today I made a homework 2 for the w34z3l's Red Line Rampage video series. I think I found a couple of interesting things about my 3bets and facing to 3bets and I learnt alot. Now time to implement this! Really great series! I hope I will manage to watch the 3rd video and do the 3rd homework tomorrow.

I've made an excel file where I enter all my bankroll changes and transactions and also sessions played (which date, which game, which limit, how long etc.), and then the excel calculates bunch of statistic stuff and shows graphs like those posted above. It's pretty cool and useful. I tried to find something like this on the internet to buy or download for free, but never managed to find anything similar, so took a time and did it for myself. I call it PokerBankrollManager ;)

I was even thinking about how to monetise this, but it's practically impossible because it's an Excel file, not a program, then it's not perfect and I can't protect it from free sharing arround.

Since I'm regulary posting homeworks for w34z3l's Red Line Rampage video series, I supose it's good to post them here also because they are helping me alot with realising the leaks and working on fixing them. There have been 3 homeworks to do untill now, so I will post all of them here and in future will post them as they will come.

Homework #1

Spoiler

Hi to all! Me and my beautifull graph are on board! :f_love:

(I included the rakeback line because the rake at iPoker is significally higher than Stars and I'm only winning there with the rakeback I have)

Since I had my first coaching, would cheat a bit and post my main problems discussed in the coaching:  :spade: Cold-calling too less from the BB
:spade: Being too passive in situations where facing double-check when IP or check from PFR when OOP
:spade: Defending too tight BB vs SB
:spade: 3betting too tight from all positions
:spade: Leading with the too low frequency in multi-way pots
:spade: Opening too tight from the BTN
:spade: Opening too tight from the SB
:spade: Folding too much to 3bets
:spade: Raising flops with the too low frequency

So, definitelly alot to improve.

I love the first video and can't wait for others!

Homework #2

Spoiler

Hello!

I will divide this homework into 2 parts: 3bets and Facing 3bets

3bets

Being too tight with 3bets is one of my biggest issues. I'm allready working on expanding 3bet ranges, but I can surely add at least 1-2% more, we will see in which positions. Here are my 3bet stats from all positions:

Spoiler

3bet stats position vs position:

Spoiler

3bet stats vs 1 raiser:

Spoiler

Differencies from the stats suggested in w34z3l's Walkthrough:

Spoiler

So, I can conclude that, in the sample size, my 3bet stats are pretty good overall, but can expand my 3bet range (probably bluff 3bet) in certain situations. In general, my problem is still being too tight on blinds vs late positions. BTN vs MP is a surprising, but can be that it's just a sample issue because I have 577 hands BTN vs MP 1 raiser. I run a filter BTN vs MP where I didn't 3bet and found that all of them were against shortstack and middlestack. I almost never bluff 3bet against shortstacks and middlestack, but after watching the video, I will start doing that and that could make my 3bet stats a bit higher. SB vs CO, SB vs BTN and BB vs BTN aren't a surprise for me because I know that I 3bet too tight in those situations. Let's look at the graph where I made a 3bet BB/SB vs CO/BTN with hands that are not TT+ and AQ+:

Spoiler

The conclusion is that I can add a few more bluffs, because bluffing those spots is extremly profitable for me. As long as I loose less than 75 bb/100, which I loose when fold on BB/SB, the bluff 3bet is profitable. Going through the database, I found alot of hands on blinds vs late positions which I could bluff 3bet and the real result is actually that I 3bet sufficient enough on all positions except:
:spade: SB vs CO
:spade: SB vs BTN
:spade: BB vs CO
:spade: BB vs BTN

I can probably add a couple of more 3bets from all positions, but above have to be fixed immediately. Here is the graph of all hands where I made a 3bet:

Spoiler

Facing 3bets

This is another spot where I'm too tight. Here is how I play when facing 3bets atm:

Spoiler

I'm folding too much to 3bets on all positions, especially on the SB and BTN. EP, MP and CO are somehow right, but that's because the open ranges from those positions are much tighter. So, I will focus now to the SB and BTN. Firstly, here is the graph where I openned on the SB and was faced a 3bet from the BB:

Spoiler

I'm folding in 72,7% of cases, which makes me highly exploitable. I open raise to 2,5BB on the SB. If BB makes a 3bet of 3x, he needs 65% of fold equity (6,5/(1,5+2+6,5)). If he makes it a little smaller, he needs even less. If I was my opponents, I would 3bet any hand BB vs SB against me. I found a couple of hands which I shouldn't fold to 3bet (according to charts from w34z3l's Walkthrough) and turns out that if I was flat or 4bet those, my Ft3Bet would be arround 60%

Now the graph where I openned on the BTN and was faced a 3bet from BB/SB:

Spoiler

I'm folding there in 76,3% of cases. My open size is 2,1BB. So, if opponent makes a 3bet even of 3,5x, he needs 64% (BB) and 66% (SB) of fold equity. Again, it's profitable to 3bet any hand against me when I open raise on the BTN. I also found a couple of hands which I shouldn't fold to 3bet (according to charts from w34z3l's Walkthrough). If I had flat or 4bet those, my Ft3bet would be arround 69%. Also, there are certainly some situations where I need to be wider than charts suggest. There are situations where I can 4bet exploitatively against players who fold to 4bets alot. If I open raise to 2,1BB and face a 3bet of 3X, in case my 4bet size is 2,2X of 3bet size, I need 56% of fold equity.

For the end, here is the graph of all hands where I made a 4bet:

Spoiler

So, I can surelly add a few more 4bets to improve my red line.

Homework #3

Spoiler

Hello!

It's cool to see my last year’s database in the video. So, will run some filters and see how much my game has changed in 2015.

VPIP/PFR

Spoiler

First of all, my VPIP and PFR changed a bit. In the video they were 22,1/18,1 and now they are 22,7/18,1. That doesn't look like a big difference but it is, because the majority of this year's hands are played at Pokerstars, where the 6-max tables are always full, as the last year's hands were all played at iPoker, where the average number of players at 6-max tables is probably 5.

3bet IP

Spoiler

As 3bets IP are concerned, I increased that stats also, but they still should be a bit wider:
MP: 3,44 (was 1,78) – has to be around 4
CO: 4,07 (was 2,45) – has to be around 6
BTN: 8,21 (was 5,74) – has to be around 8-10

I should probably increase those stats futhrer with exploiting players which fold to 3bets too much.

What I noticed already in the homework 2, one of my leaks is avoiding to bluff 3bet shorstacks and middle stacks, in all positions, even though they are minraising. Here is an example:

Spoiler

Poker Stars, $0.08/$0.16 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

SB: $11.17 (69.8 bb)
Hero (BB): $20.46 (127.9 bb)
UTG: $15.92 (99.5 bb)
MP: $16.40 (102.5 bb)
CO: $7.76 (48.5 bb)
BTN: $24.41 (152.6 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 6 A
4 folds, SB raises to $0.32, Hero folds

Results: $0.32 pot
SB mucked and won $0.32 ($0.16 net)

Squeeze

Spoiler

I also increase my squeeze stat a bit. It is 3,71 (was 3,01), but it probably needs to be somewhere around 5, so I need to put quite a work on that. I need to squeeze a lot more as a bluff, because obviously I squeeze mostly for value.

Showdown

Spoiler

I become a bit less nitty, so my W$SD% is 55,4 (was 57), and W$WSF is 46,7 (was 42,6). So, I have surely made some progress there, but need to fold even less hands on flop, turn and river than I do now.

4Bet

Spoiler

Then I increased my 4bet range a bit. It is 2,61 (was 2,29), but it should probably be around 4, so I need to add a couple of bluffs more.

Flop Cbet

Spoiler

I’ve made a big improvement in flop cbets. Now I cbet 68,6% (was 57,3). So, now my flop cbet is probably optimal for the limits I play.

vs 3bets

Spoiler

Now I fold slightly less to 3bets, in 67,9% of cases (was 72,5), but I need to add more flats and 4bet bluffs, especially on the BTN and the SB. I need to work on lowering this stat to around 60%, but also improve my play in 3bet pots, not just flat 3bets and then fold everything on the flop.

UO PFR%

Spoiler

I increased my UO PFR% from all positions, especially on the SB where I’m open raising 43% (was 35) and the BTN where I’m open raising 51,8 (was 47,5). The numbers look good, as suggested in the video, but I can surely make it even higher on the BTN, something like 55 would be even better, I think.

CC

Spoiler

My overall CC% is also a lot better, 11,1 (was 9,84).

Playing on the blinds

Spoiler

I managed to improve my winrates on the blinds. SB is -20,96 (was -29,79) and the BB is -30,06 (was -41,53). So, I’m very close to ideal winrates from the blinds atm, but I can still improve my game from the blinds, which we would probably see through later filters. I increased my BB vs BTN open CC%, which is 27,3% now (was 15,3). Even though it is a big improvement, I can still cold call some hands more. CC% SB vs BTN open is still ok, but I incrased my 3bet dramatically. Now I 3bet 11,8% SB vs BTN open (was 7,71). But then, I am 3betting too tight BB vs BTN open, just 7,89 (was 7,39). I should add more 3bets on both positions in blinds vs BTN situations, especially when on the BB. The ideal percentage would be 11-15%, so I’m aiming to that.

My winrates on blinds when CC vs BTN are 49,34 bb/100 on the SB and 47,6 bb/100 on the big blind, which clearly indicates that I can cold call even more hands than I do at the moment. What I need to improve in blinds CC vs BTN open is my Flop Raise Cbet because it is 10,6% now (was 8,82) and it should be around 20. So I should raise twice cbets as I currently do. So, this is another field where I need a significant improvement. The good thing is that I fold to cbets just 39% in those situations (was 45,5). I probably fold too much to turn cbets – 59,3% (was 55) and river cbets – 80 (was 66,7), but that might be a sample size issue.

I significantly improved my play on the BB vs SB open. My defending percentage is 46,6% - 3bet 15% and CC 31,6% (was 37,1 – 3bet 15,4, CC 21,7). I can probably defend a little more than that, closer to 50%. My WTSD% in this situation is a little low – 19,% and W$SD% is 60, which indicates that I’m probably too tight postflop BB vs SB. The good thing is that my flop raise cbet in this situation is 22 (was 16,8), which is ideal. My winrate when CC BB vs SB open is 118,21 bb/100 (was 95,34), which means that, even though I CC a lot more then used to, I can even expand my cold calling range further and improve my overall winrate on the BB like that.

Considering my play BB vs CO open, I improved my 3bet stat significantly, because it is 6,41% now (was 2,84), but I should expand it slightly to about 7% in the future. Cold Call is the same as it was in the video, 8,53% (was 9,35), which is good, but can be a bit wider, about 10%. My W$WSF in this situation is 50%, which is optimal atm.

SB vs CO open, my 3bet is 6,57%, and should be around 9%. CC is 7,01%, exactly where it should be. So, I should expand my 3bet SB vs CO open, but that was already concluded in the homework 2. My W$WSF is 47% in this situation, which is good.

BB vs UTG open is slightly better. The CC is 9,17%, which is pretty good (was 6,53%) and the 3bet is 2,03% (was 1,07), which is also good, but needs to be a bit higher, around 2,5. I’m still too passive postflop. My W$WSF is 37,1% (was 40,4) and W$SD% is 71,4 (was 73,3), which tells me that I need to work on my postflop play BB vs UTG open. For example, I’m folding in 73,9% of cases to flop cbets in this situation (was 58,1). So, even though I expand my preflop ranges, I became more nitty postflop. This is another field where I have to improve significantly and I think it’s a common thing for me when OOP postflop.

SB vs UTG open, my CC is 5,05% and I should slightly expand it to 6,5%. The 3bet is 2,53, which is great.

BB vs MP open, my CC is 8,59%, which is very good, but could be a bit higher. The 3bet is 2,27%, which is also very good, but could also be a bit higher.

SB vs MP open, my CC is 6,03%, which is great. The 3bet is 2,49%, which is very good, but I can add a hand or two to my bluff 3bet range.

The general thing about playing from the blinds is that with slightly expanding defending ranges, I need to be more aggressive postflop.

Conclusion

Here are the tables where I summed up all:

So, to make a general conclusion, I can say that I improved a lot in comparison with the database shown in video. Worth to mention that I can thank that mostly to w34z3l’s private coachings and his great videos at Pokerstrategy. There is still a lot of space to improve, which can be seen in the tables above, but at least I know what to improve and how to do that.

The bad strike continues for me at NL10, so have to admitt that was tilting today quite a bit. That's something I have to change if want to become successfull. So, I will post those spewy hands to never happen again:

#1 I believed that he was quitting the hand with checking the turn, so decided to protect against A or K. When he shoved, I was pretty sure that he had got me beaten, but was so pissed off that called...

#2 Since I supose that the BTN is a fish, decided to bet the river for a thin value. When he raised, I just knew that I have to fold. But again, the same as the first hand.

#3 I tought that would be a good idea to raise the flop, but I think calling is fine. With raising would probably isolate myself against QQ+ or something. Think that calling the flop and turn was good, but caling the river is terrible.

Hand 1 I'd check behind turn and call non A/K river. What do you think his range is for 3betting BB vs UTG?
Hand 2 I'd x/r flop big and shove any turn. Just cbetting bigger is good too but the board is so drawy I'd rather get it in on the turn.
Hand 3 I'd raise flop and shove turn, he seems like a fish (stacksize, donkbetting). He can call with a lot of worse pairs and worse draws, even if he has TT-QQ, you have like 50% equity.
Hand 4 I'd bet turn bigger and fold to his river x/r.

Hey Alen, as i know you have played both versions of fast format on Ipoker and on Stars, so where do u think games is harder to beat PS or Ipoker? And i am saying only for fast format?

I believe the range is pretty tigh. Something like KK+ and maybe AK for value and probably some bluffs, like suited connectors. I don't see KK+ checking the turn, so I was thinking that would be worthed to take the pot down without seeing the river because I don't want to see A or K.

Hand 2 I'd x/r flop big and shove any turn. Just cbetting bigger is good too but the board is so drawy I'd rather get it in on the turn.

Yeah, make sense. I usually don't check/raise in those situations, to prevent checks back, but the size should be bigger. If he calls two streets, maybe check/calling or even check/folding would be ok on this river card... But if betting, I'm sure I have to fold to a raise.

Yeah, I was thinking about raising the flop and get it in.

Hand 4 I'd bet turn bigger and fold to his river x/r.

I agree.

Thank you for the comments! :)

Probably there is not a big difference. There are relatively more fish on iPoker, but the rake is higher. Overall, maybe iPoker is slightly softer to beat (even with the higher rake), but there are times when no traffic at NL10, which sucks.

Too bad about the loss & looks like my heater is over too ;(

It's ridicilous how much worse I play when running bad. My biggest problem seems to be going to showdown too loose when I'm losing, what's yours?

I think my biggest problem is still not being aggressive enough, both preflop and postflop. For example, one specific leak is that I fold way too much to cbets on the turn. When running bad, I become even tighter because am paranoic a bit that everything is going against me.
