It`s good to get it in OTR, i`m just curious what did he show you because apart from quads nothing makes any sense.

Hi, psyxxx74,
Disclaimer: I am NOT a coach!

First off, you appear to have hit a full house, not a mere set

When looking at the choice call or raise, here are some questions to ask, in (more or less) order of importance:
:diamond:  What worse hands will call? (No point in raising if you're never getting any addition $)
:diamond:  Is my hand the nuts? If so, and there are worse hands that will call, then GET IT IN.
:diamond:  How many combinations beat me? From the hands in his range, how likely is it that you're already beaten?

Any other questions come to mind?

If fold enters the choice list, there are a few more.

So the answers in this case:
:diamond:  Any T, AA,KK,33,AQ (maybe), any suited hand in clubs will all call
:diamond:  No, you do NOT have the nuts.
:diamond:  TT (1 combo), QQ (3 combos) -- these are definitely in his range. Hands that beat you but may or may not be in a sensible players range are: QT, T8, T3, although as BB multi-way he has a good price to call with anything remotely decent. Even 72o is only a 2:1 dog vs a random hand.

I did almost exactly this with pocket 6s a few days ago.
Flop was JJ3 Turn 6 and River 5.
Villain bet, I raised and I "teased" him into getting it in. He had J5 Oops.

In this case, you could argue for a bigger river bet on your part -- maybe even an overbet.
Some would shove it to get value out of all the club flushes.

So

was reraising bad idea?

After all that, what do you think?

Best of luck,
VS

By the way, villain had QQ slow played until the river, yup he had the blue fish mark in HM2...

Shouldn't we rather just complette this preflop?

As played, I would also do the same on the river. I expect him to bet QQ and QT on the turn. But, he still might have those, so bet/calling would probably be safer.

Why the hell would you complete, if you hit a set you are against complete garbage in a super high SPR pot and won`t get paid off, if you complete you`ll end up with a useless pair 5way or so, isolation itself is profitable here especially with a made pair and implied odds vs their continuing range.

Ok! Just take it easy, man, it was only a question. I ask it because I don't expect the CO to fold (thus, the BTN will have better odds to call with his pocket pairs) and I was wondering if 88 would be good enough to play it profitably postflop. But let's say it is better to raise. What would you do with 66 there? What would you do with 22?

When we decided to raise, I would make it bigger, like $0,25. Also, against open limping players, I expect to get value postflop when hit the set (if we decided to complette preflop).

Raising with PP vs late positions is not only for the FE, but also to narrow their ranges so when you hit your set villain would have a strong range with which to pay you off.

Good point, nitrol,
It also gives you the initiative post-flop.

Having the initiative makes your CBet believable, and adds to your fold equity on the flop.

Example:
C$0.04 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 4 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: C3.03 (VPIP: 31.04, PFR: 3.59, 3Bet Preflop: 2.33, Hands: 395)
Hero (SB): C5.28
BB: C0.39 (VPIP: 60.71, PFR: 5.36, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 56)
CO: C3.97 (VPIP: 46.84, PFR: 1.27, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 79)

Hero posts SB C0.02, BB posts BB C0.04

Pre Flop: (pot: C0.06) Hero has 6♣:6♠:

CO calls C0.04, BTN calls C0.04, Hero raises to C0.12, BB calls C0.08, CO calls C0.08, BTN calls C0.08

Flop: (C0.48, 4 players) 4♦:7♥:7♣:
Hero bets C0.20, fold, fold, fold

Spoiler

Hero shows 6♣:6♠: (Two Pair, Sevens and Sixes)

Hero wins C0.44

The pre-flop raise is *not* an isolation raise. I'm pretty sure that they will all come along. The effect is to build a pot in case I do hit in which case I may get more than one stack.

OTF, The CBet drives out anyone who has no made hands and no draws -- in this case everyone. Easy fold to a raise on the flop, and if anyone calls, better stack-pot-ratio if I hit.

You can't do this vs aggro types who 3Bet bluff v dry flops.
