Day 4 - 6

Day 4 (Friday) was quite intensive since I went through all defined ranges and after putting them into Equilab I adjusted certain ranges so they would be easier to remember. Later that day I went through first 3 chapters of MGP making notes so I will get more out of it later on. No grinding though.

Saturday was free day because we had some family celebration so I was out all day.

Day 5 (Sunday) was bad day because I was having disputes all day long so I couldn't get my mind to focus on poker. I did managed to put 51 hypers.

Day 6 (Monday) started well but somewhere in the middle I lost my focus and started doing non-poker things. In the end I finished 51 hypers and read the remaining 2 chapters of MGP. Ironically the last one is about motivation so I'm definitely sure this might help me.

Month in numbers:

1) Grind = 276/3600 games

2) Calculator = 2/20

3) Ranges = 20/20 DONE

4) Mental Game of Poker = 2/3

5) Insanity = 0/8

6) Running = 2/8

6a) Push ups = 34

Day 7 (yesterday)

Excuses excuses...finally I put some volume in although I had to grind until 2am and my eyes started closing. It wasn't bad day on contrary it started great. I got up before 6 am and went running. I'm still in that phase that running wears me down and doesn't give me needed energy I would need. With time it will come and that morning routine will pay off for sure. One new thing that was introduced is "Memorizing ranges" (as there are not enough categories already). For the rest of the month I will memorize the most important 9 ranges. Still haven't found the most optimum way to remember ranges easier so for now I'm just doing it through plain repetition, testing myself over and over.

Daily work:

1) Grind = 168/180

2) Calculator = done

6) Running = done

6a) push ups = 22

7) Memorizing range = done

Day 8

I still have difficulties putting in required volume. My daily routine starts with analyzing situations from previous day and after that I begin working on ranges. This takes some time and energy and usually I start grinding around 11h although I get up at 7am. Although I don't like changing something when it works I think I have to put in more volume so will mix it up in the following days. I shouldn't be just negative because my days are quite packed and I'm happy that I'm moving my again and exercising regularly.

Daily work:

1) Grind = 148/180

2) Calculator = done

Day 9

Day like any other nothing special. Just doing the routine and working my way up. I had to finish my last session a bit sooner because I was tired again and I felt I'm not playing my B game. Since I couldn't stop bad plays I chose to stop. I was a bit disappointed to see volume of 179 :f_cry: but what can we do. After dinner I went through my notes from MGP and I think I understand some concepts pretty well, now all I got to do is to implement it in practice.

Daily work:

1) Grind = 179/180

2) Calculator = done

Day 10

Yesterday was semi poker day. I knew I was spending evening with gf since it's been a while we went out and I don't want to neglect her all the way. I've done minimum poker wise - I've done calculator analysis and memorized new range - it's better to move than to stand still :f_grin: Have lots of work to do until end of this month so lets get back to business.

Daily work:

1) Grind = 71/150

Day 11-16

Been somewhat lazy with updating the blog. Poker activity wasn't great either but that shouldn't be an excuse for not updating. On contrary that should be an extra motivation to push even harder in the following days. Still can't constantly put the required volume and I'm strugling with other things too. From time to time I skim over other blogs where players actually put decent hours into poker. They're working on their game and are also putting 8h into grinding while I do 4-5h of grind + 1h of analyzing. No wonder there is no result because before you achieve something you have to invest yourself without speculating how much that thing will bring you and when. That doesn't mean to work a day or two but to work every day. I do have good days but mostly I have average days with volume of only 100 hypers played which is nothing for this format. I'm not even procrastinating but the work isn't completed so instead of thinking more I should just sit down and work. I can still complete some of the things I set myself for this month so I'm not giving up.

Month in numbers:

1) Grind = 1451/3600 games

2) Calculator = 10/20

3) Ranges = 20/20 DONE

4) Mental Game of Poker = 2/3

5) Insanity = 0/8

6) Running = 5/8

6a) Push ups = 203

7) Memorizing range = 4/9

Been busy with non-poker related things in the last 10 days. I couldn't grind or do anything for poker which is probably more because of my organization skills than actual super crisis. Now I completed things and I'm ready to dig deeper into poker again.

Since I have on and off poker attitude I must set myself a challenge to keep myself busy and motivated. I love challenges so this one is going to be gooood:)

Usually I plan many things to make it "interesting" while in reality it just gets messy and complicated. So this time I made it plain and simple.

5 MONTHS = 15k hypers => $5000 PROFIT!

GOAL = finish 15k hypers by 30th November 2015

In last 7 month I only once managed to have a volume of 3000 hypers in a month. In the last 6 months I played only 11,6k hypers so this will be challenging for a lazy ass player like me.

I also did some calculations and created 3 scenarios. Although it's not the best idea to make money related goals I calculated how much I can expect to earn when I finish my goal. Variance, variance and variance... I know... but I have to have some numbers:f_grin:

Current results for particular limits are as follows:
$3 -> 3,3k = 6,14% roi
$5 -> 7,6k = 6,45% roi
$10-> 0,2k = -1,3% roi

Here are 3 scenarios:

Scenario 1 (ultra optimistic)

Monthly goals look like this:

1. July => 2400 $5 + 600 $3
2. Aug => 3000 $5
3. Sep => 2400 $5 + 600 $10
4. Oct => 1800 $5 + 1200 $10
5. Nov => 1500 $5 + 1500$10

I calculated roi of 6% for $3 and $5 and 2-3% roi for $10. Number I got is $4879. Coach said I can't expect to have this kind of roi... which is nice way of saying he things I'm fish on a heater that is going down...

Scenario 2 (fairly optimistic)

Monthly goals look like this:

1. July => 2400 $5 + 600 $3
2. Aug => 3000 $5
3. Sep => 2400 $5 + 600 $10
4. Oct => 1800 $5 + 1200 $10
5. Nov => 1500 $5 + 1500$10

Calculated roi of 5% for lower limits and again 2-3% for $10. Number is $3918...which is not the best but with good bonuses I might be able to go over the $5k. Coach's comment... good luck with that.

Scenario 3 (optimistic)

Monthly goals look like this:

1. July => 2000 $5 + 1000 $3
2. Aug => 2400 $5 + $600 $10
3. Sep => 1800 $5 + 1200 $10
4. Oct => 1500 $5 + 1500 $10
5. Nov => 1500 $5 + 1500$10

This one is a bit more aggro plan with roi of 4-5% for lower two limits and 2-3% for $10. Number that I got is $3723.

So why am I doing this?
I want to force myself to sit down and work like I should to prove to myself I can start crushing $10. That's why I also set subgoals which are:
a) beat $5 with 7% roi over 10k sample
b) beat $10 with 4% roi over 4k sample

Will do short daily updates for myself but more importantly I will do more thorough analyze of play/plans/ obstacles/...and everything else in weekly summaries.

Let's do this:f_thumbsup:

JULY

GOAL = 3000 hypers

I'm not sure I'm ready for another shot at $10 atm. Will play for a week or two and if it goes well I will consider adding $10s but my plan is to play 2000 $5 and 1000 $3.

I have only one goal and that is to meet the volume goal. If I do 100 other things and fail volume this month will be a failure. Focus only on one goal = volume. So no procrastinating/ hanging out/ be available all the time... do what you have to do. This doesn't mean I will only grind mindlessly. I will work on my game and analyze every day because in the long term I want to play higher limits but this month priority is to complete my goal and that is for the 3rd time - finish 3000 hypers!

subgoals:
a) fully define your short/mid/long term poker goals
b) learn 12 ranges
c) analyze daily (20 times)
d) work out (every second day)

Day 1

Players, cards and variance welcomed me nicely so I started my first day with nice minus. But I'm not results related:f_rolleyes: so I won't let this ruin my enthusiam:f_biggrin: There is also some rust since I've been off the tables for some time but after few days I should be able to grind normally. In the next 3 days emphasis will be on analysis and ranges to come back into beast mode as soon as possible. From now on no matter what happens I have to reach daily volume of min 125 hypers per day.

daily volume = 106

monthly progress = 106/3000

Day 2

daily volume = 118

monthly progress = 224/3000

Still not totally comfortable with regular schedule but it's coming slowly. What I have to do as soon as possible is to have longer session since this 50-60 min sessions take lots of time but don't produce such a volume. So by the end of the month I should be able to play 2h sessions which will be beneficial in terms of time spent and energy invested into daily grinding. Also one important thing that I started today is that I'm planning my next day. That means I'm taking few minutes to think about everything that I have to do tomorrow.

Day 3

daily volume = 125

monthly progress = 349/3000

Was mostly following daily schedule which is great! I can't expect to master planning of my daily routines in one day but if I continue to work day after day I think good things are going to happen. Not only that I met daily grinding goal I also spent some quality time with gf in the afternoon. Tomorrow is free day and from Monday on I start playing 150 hypers per day:f_grin:

Day 4 (yesterday)

daily volume = 134

monthly progress = 483/3000

Have to adjust planning since traffic sucks in the morning and actually up to 13h. This means I will have to do most of my grinding in the afternoon and evening. I just need to focus and get things done, no excuses whatsoever. Today is going to be good day:f_cool:

Hi, yaxkukmian,
Do you break your monthly goal down to a daily goal?

If so, how many "off" days do you anticipate in a month.

When I set volume goals I usually allow for 10 off days, so I break my monthly go into 20 parts.

In your case, that would mean 150 per day, so you're a wee bit behind after 4.
If 8 "off" days then it is only 136 per day, but you're still behind a bit.

Some people try to play each and every day, but if you set your goals like this, then when you miss a day, it causes stress -- which no poker player needs more of :coolface:

Best of luck,
VS

Day 5

daily volume = 119

monthly progress = 602/3000

Traffic is hurting me more that I was hoping it will. I can't put proper volume whenever I want but have to play at particular hours in order to reach my volume goals. So today I did put quality time into calculator and later on also worked on one range but I couldn't reach wanted volume goal for the day. The reason is also I had some software trouble but in my eyes those are all exuses. Focus and work.

Yes I do. Plan for this month was 24 days * 125 daily volume

Originally posted by VorpalF2FIf so, how many "off" days do you anticipate in a month.

That would be 7 days.

Up to now I've also been doing it like this. What I found out is that I still had quite some time for many of my hobbies. It's nothing wrong with a hobby but if you really want to be good at something you have to work more and not use all your energy for many hobbies. So this is kind of "test" month for me if I can really do it.

Uuuuuuuuuuu somebody else loves numbers! :f_thumbsup: Here are my numbers... as I mentioned in my first answer daily goal is to play 125 hypers. From that perspective I'm not far behind. Reality however is that I will probably play only 23 days in July so this means my average daily volume should be 131 hypers. In that case I'm already 53 hypers behind. That's the reason I set myself a daily goal of 150 hypers because some days I will put less and other days more but if I play in average around 150 I will definitely reach my goal (although I know I need to play only 133 hypers per day in the next 18 days to finish the month within planned volume).

Originally posted by VorpalF2FSome people try to play each and every day, but if you set your goals like this, then when you miss a day, it causes stress -- which no poker player needs more of :coolface: Yep yep, so that's the main reason I don't do that:f_cool:

I hate technology! I hate it! I hate it! I fucking hate it!:f_mad: And this definitely goes both ways.:f_frown:When you're this lucky to have special bond formed there is usually little you can do to fix it. It's frustrating when I'm wasting my time through not doing things I should. After day or two of procrastinating I convince myself why it's better to go back on track and work on things that will bring me closer to my goals. The same can't be said for technology... when it wants to screw you then it goes all the way. I've been trying to put max volume for the last two days but I just can't do it. Today for instance I grinded for almost 5h and was able to finish only 100 hypers. I haven't been tilting for quite some time now but this almost made me tilt again. I hate it!

Day 7

daily volume = 189

monthly progress = 897/3000

Finally I managed to put in some good volume! I'm still not playing 2h sessions, as a matter a fact my playing sessions are only 60-70 min long. This means I have to play at least 5 sessions per day. Starting and ending sessions takes time and energy so for the rest of the month my focus is to start constantly playing 90 min long sessions.

Weekly report - 1 (2-9.7.2015)

Here is first weekly report. In last 8 days I had 7 playing days. Required volume for first week was 875 hypers and I managed to complete it successfully. I started slowly and with each day I increased playing time which resulted in increased volume. I need to be consistent and have in mind long term goal - 15k hypers by the end of November. Main focus for my next week is to lengthen my playing time to minimum of 90 minutes per playing session. This way I will give myself better chance of constantly playing 150 hypers per day. It's not only important that I play that kind of volume every day but also to save energy so I can do that week after week. Volume was and is still my main focus but I shouldn't forget to work on my game so I will spend more time with calculator from now on.

Required volume: 875
Done volume: 897 :f_thumbsup:

$3:
- played 323 hypers with roi of 7,58%

$5:
- played 565 hypers with roi of -0,28%

$10:
- played 4 hyper with roi -100%

Day 8 (Friday)

daily volume = 150

This month is hard to take result wise. I'm not sure what's wrong but I just can't have a normal streak and I keep checking my results after sessions. I do analyze my game but again I think it's not top quality analysis so I should concentrate on that area. Focus should be on playing ranges and thinking about opponents and not so much about results.

Saturday was a free day. Went at seaside and just plugged myself off.

Day 9

Today I couldn't get up in the morning. That's usually not the best start of the day and I proved it once more to myself that I can't expect work to be done by itself. I managed to have one grinding session in the morning + did memorize 1 new range. Afternoon was spent watching tennis (9th grand slam fore Nole :f_cool:) and then did one quality training. All in all it wasn't good poker day but I took free weekend and tomorrow I'm going back to battle. Tomorrow will be my first 200 hypers volume day!

monthly progress = 1067/3000

Another challenge down the drain:f_confused: A lot of things happened during last month but this is nothing new for me since I always seem to find excuses why I "couldn't" finish my latest challenge. You might be wandering "Why is this guy even writting in here? He fails everytime how is he motivated to continue?" Despite everything I know I can step up big time and make real progress. This is kind of my journal where I gather my ramblings/ thoughts/ decisions. So when I take a look at this blog it sure doesn't look or feel awesome but then again this is my life and it's on me to pick a path that will lead me into right direction. Honestly atm it sure doesn't feel being on the correct path but I'm not quitting that's for sure.

I've been talking with my coach (who's also good friend of mine at the same time) for 3h and after that I realized I don't need to find some extra motivation or inspiration that will keep me going on. Most of this 3h we've been talking about poker and I realized all I need is to believe and trust into myself. No need to open ifs, whens, hows,etc - the recipe is simple:
1) write your goal down
2) make a plan
3) follow it
4) achieve it
So one step at the time should bring me there but until now I haven't been able to tranform it the way I wanted.

Still kicking and slowly coming back to poker.
