^ Right. I think pursuing a poker career is good only for such asocial animals as me who have no relationships to lose :f_cool: (I started the grind because I was already drawing slim in the job market with my lack of will for interpersonal interaction).

I made this post years ago!

Glad to see it's still going.

Well, a few years ago I wondered what my friend's reaction would be if I told them I play poker as a hobby.

Well yesterday I finally got my answer.

I told my significant other that I play poker for fun, and I pretty much got a negative reaction towards it.

The end result of that conversation is that I quit playing poker, withdraw my $150 and invest my 10 hours a week into something more constructive like face-chatting with her :f_love::f_love::f_drink::f_drink:.

well if i am i playing like nl400+ and beating it...and my significant other starts to shit around i would tell her to pack her things and tell her to fu*k off. Same thing would be with my friends. F U guys, all of ya. F U MOM$DAD also.

But actualy i am playing nl5, and 80% of guys who posted here are at same stakes, maybe stake or two higher. So yeah, it is a a bit lame to talk about it anyways.

edit: Dunno if you spotted but in sentence above where i mentioned Mom and Dad i wrote $ instead of &. Maybe it is a mistake maybe it is not. Who knows

how you can reach NL400 if without playing NL5. Of course unless you have lot of money which you can afford to loose and leart at like NL25 :)

As I understand its your girlfirend or wife.
nooooooo. Unless you are fed up with poker.

I am sorry if I sound like a teacher, I know that people do not like teaching when they do not ask. So if you do not like, the skip and do not read.

But after taking break, you might want to go back to poker again.

But chatting, this is complete waste of time, unless there is some intereting topic. But I doubt that with same girl chatting everyday you can find interesting topics all the time. At least you would do something more interesting or what brings money, like some business.

Chatting can be done when eating breakfast or lunch, or going out with friends - there are lot of opportunities when to chat when you cannot play.

But if you can get same adrenaline with chatting like 3 barrel bluffing vs some guy who you do not know if he folds, then ok.

And if you can have same fun with chatting when you have AA and fish calls your shove with KQ 100 bb, then ok.

Man, don't be brainwashed by girls:) probably girls think its still gambling and you might end up losing all your money one day.
They want that you do this boring stuff - working 8-5 bringing the salary which they will spend and you do some boring thing like chatting, watching boring movies, taking boring walks (at least moving is good for health). Some might say that they want you yo do not boring stuff, but still not agree that you play poker, like maybe they accept you traveling. Because its what "normal" people do.

But I wish you to choose to do what YOU (not just your girlfirend) want and what makes you happy.

I write like this because I see myself from my friends how are they controlled by girls, also my grandfather is controlled whole life, also some other people, and they do not even feel.
Or one feels, does not like to be controlled , and complains about it but maybe is afraid to get out of comfort zone and leave her (because there are advantages also, like she cooks, she cares about his health).

Ugh.

Non-poker players usually have a negative reaction to poker because they think it's just gambling, that's understandable. However, you shouldn't have to give up what you enjoy for someone else. I'm sorry, but that's just stupid. Relationships should be about compromise, not doing what someone else wants you to do. Did your SO give up something to spend more face-time with you?

On top of that, you're only spending 10 hours a week playing, that's 1 hour, 45 minutes a day playing. You're telling me your SO can't give you 105 minutes a day for yourself? That seems a bit selfish. And you only have $150 invested. That's nothing. I can see it being a problem if you're investing $150 a day, but I'm going to assume you're not. You need to explain these things to your SO, find out why she's so against it.

I had a similar talk with my GF and she hated that I played poker, but I had to tell her that it's what enjoyed doing and it was my thing. Just like her thing was going out to bars with her girlfriends on weekends and having a ladies night. I don't drink and I hate the bar scene, but that's what she likes. So, I accepted it. Just like she accepted that I needed my time alone sometimes to hangout with friends and do something i enjoy.

We're still spending a ton of quality time together, but compromise in relationships are needed. Don't be a pushover.
