So, how do I deal with "variance"?

Below you find todays examples. The problem is, that this is the usual. Every day.

So, if this is the usual, how do I deal with it? Can it get worse? How? This is my daily routine. Over and over. It takes it's toll. I curse, when I get dealt AA, KK, QQ. I curse, when I get dealt AJo. I curse, when I see runner runner str8, flush. I consider foldequity a myth. I am run over and over by worst hands. Just because they have a call button. If you see a small turn bet, I am already in the "allright, river gonna fuck me up again" mode. And so on. Trying to hit an OESD with FD? Yeah right, only happens on paper to me, lol.

So, if this is the usual for me, how do I deal with it?

Last hand of the day: Sunday's storm, called by the 55/10 tableidiot. No luck for lil me. Funfact: Up to tableswitch was running good with 150BB deep. After tableswitch it's the usual again, lol. Funny, do I get switched, because I was running good?

Some of those hands were just bad luck and it happens but I can see some other small mistakes too. For example I think your pre-flop rages are way too wide. Playing with hands like 63s, J8o will lead to many suckouts and villain will dominate you quite often with a higher flush or a better kicker. Also I feel your emotions might be affecting your play. A good way to improve your mental game is to read The Mental Game of Poker 1&2. Those books have helped me a lot.

I also recommend you use our hand discussion forums actively. Post any difficult hand there and we might be able to help you to fix some leaks :)

Hi, I have just a question for you, what is the variance?

It's a real question, obv I know what it is but if you want my opinion, don't less that broke your mind.
Many player say , oh the variance got me, oh I'm bad run, oh ext.
Or when they good run they are strong and they play well.

The bad variance existe off course but the good variance to.
It's difficulte to me to explan that because I learn english.
I just can say to you work, work a lot and don't less some "concept" blow your mind.

For me, if some body can editing me is all right.
For you, work and have a fun because poker is a game. SeeYou.

After I donk understand why you play 0.1$, 1$, 5$, 10$, so you know the variance but maybe you don't know the brm, but I don't think your repost, it was a rage post I think.

Anyway I come just for write some Entglish and it's all right.
I hope you understand variance it's a thing, play a bad poker another.

Good luck.

Are that all the hands...? how many hands did you play today?

I see this every hour I play... curse of being a FL player.

What you can do about it? Use good bankrollmanagement. Just make sure you can handle the swings that just happen and are normal in poker. And make sure you do not start tilting when you get a bad beat... otherwise the bad beat will cost you alot more than just that 1 hand.

Also in how many hands did you come from behind...?

Thanks guys for the replies.

Since I put "variance" I guess you would know how it meant.

The hands are just from sunday and from your answers I take it, such things are the usual if one plays several tournaments a day. Since I cannot show the action up to those hands, I suppose it is difficult to understand why for example such a like 63s is in there and why it steams me off.

My coming behind are not the same like the ones posted here. I don't call flop and turn with K2o on a 2xx board, just to hit my K on river, just as an exageration. I am way tighter than you might think from the hands posted. My push with A6s (apart from I think A6s shove is ok in that spot) was having about 100 hands with the guy and running at 13/10, K6s might have about 30%+ vs. take my 10% pre as shove range (don't have equilab on this machine, but I think its somethere there, but I haven't been anything but nitty at this table, so should assume much less. I was pretty amazed that he turned over K6s, would have expected at least a pp or something. At least he was putting his tourney life at risk vs. a nit with K6s. So every hand has its story. It not always "just" the hand that gets me going.

Yesterday I felt like I was steamrolled by every idiot caller. UTG raise and 5 caller? Nothing extraordinary at those stakes, lol.

So, all in all, you guys would say that this -is- the usual, when playing tourneys all day long, especially at the micros .55 up to 1.5?

Thanks all for your kind words.

Sounds like you need to work on your mind set. Make sure you are living a healthy life style. Take lots of breaks, sometimes for a few days or even longer. You have to be unemotional when you play, making your decisions based on the expectation of the wagers not your own feelings.

Thank's to you !
I'm hope I'm not upolite or what else, I'm just a little cg player how learn English and I'm working mental "a lot".

I think It's "normal", sometime it's suck out time, sometime you suck out to.
Just accept that and play your A-game.

It's difficult for me to explain but some player , mtt and all, are very unlucky one day, one week, one month and many more but they play well.

It's like that, but the différence between another player, there stay strong and they wait until.

So thank's for your replie, if you want to editing me or tell me I make a mystake (unpolite or bad using), you can telling me.

I don't realy know what John mayer say but he wait until

Spoiler

No worries as I am no native speaker myself, so I guess my corrections wouldn't be helpful, if at all even correct. But since I understood most of what you said, it cannot be that bad :)

Thank you. :f_thumbsup:

Not sure if I am allowed to say this here, but in the past a little app called "memrise" helped me understanding native english somewhat better.

My problems with variance was caused by not understanding my BRM (when only I understood i have enough buy-in for the game I started to tilt less and less after badbeat or cooler). When I completely understood I could win one day and play incorrect, and loose when played correctly I improved my game.
