Didn't read all of it but imo avg microplayers call too many PP's EP/MP. I would assume, unless proven otherwise, that they call 55-JJ (though I've seen calls with the lower pairs as well). Which only adds to using high equity hands. Position, equity, blocker effect = win. :f_thumbsup:

Nice vonki, thanks for the input! =) Yeah, I've been more and more realising the importance of blocker effects. Next week I'm going to include in my post some of the discussions I have in the sweats, and it'd be great to have your opinions on the topics, so be sure to check the blog for my saturday update next week.

So, just a quick update to summarize this week's session

1 - Did 2 sweats, 1 with kriko92 and another one with speedfanat1c! Thanks a lot you western european geezers! ;) It was really great discussing the play with you. Some really nice discussions about when to cbet, if there are spots where we should have close to 100% cbetting range, flatting or 4betting AK v resteals what to do vs cold jams, haha. (We could always put it in our bread I guess =P)

2 - Didn't play too much because had some family gathering and did the sweats, but managed to put in some 3k hands I think and yes, I did make some profit this time + released annother $10 bonus. Next week I shall be shooting NL5 again :f_cool: And fingers crossed for having a good run.

3 - I think I played pretty well today, A-gaming all the time. Felt really confortable in a lot of spots, trusted my hand reading abilities and did get paid off. Of course fish always help when they 4b/c AJ SBvBB, haha.

4 - During the sweat with speed, I got a call, which opened up some interesting opportunities. A friend of mind just offered me a job as a technical consultant for small farmers who are going organic. It'll pay R$1500/month (~$350 - $400). That'll give me enough money to pay for having internet at home easily. + By taking on this job I'll kill some extra activity hours I have to do for school. So it's a +++ situation =) Maybe next month I'll be playing from home people.

Of course it'll consume a lot of my time, but I think it'll be worth it.

5 - Spin & Go's are really fishy, I think I should be playing them more often and watching some videos.

6 - Oh yeah, next weekend I'm gonna try to put in some sick-ish volume in order to complete the required steps to maintain silver star status + buy $25 with starcoins. I think I need something like 12k hands. Quite a bit I think but it'll be worth it. It would also be col to have positive winrate in these 12k hands, hehe

And yeah, I think that's it for now people.

Peace to all!
Cheers!

P.s.: it's raining for ever, don't wanna ride back home under the rain :f_cry:

While I waited for the rain to stop, decided to play some more hands.... Played exactly 400 hands and lost some 150bb =/ No big pot, just had to fold over and over because villains were hitting too much :f_biggrin:
Meh, back to NL2 next week I guess. But I did get 13% of my 4th step, so that's already something good =)
Gotta make 350bb in NL2 though, in order to shoot NL5 again. :f_drink:

the stars coins have a fixed value, so buy the $10 and get back to NL5 imo :)

Have been pretty busy lately, didn't really put in volume last weekend. Had some work to do at a friends farm, then my grandpa got sick this week, and then my mind went crazy and I felt like exploding some times =) But now everything is fine.

Put in some nice volume this week, and ran good. Today I shot NL10 twice in 30mins, haha. Got rolled, moved up, got destroyed, crushed NL5 for a few hands, moved up, got destroyed, crushed NL5 again, and now I'm rolled again, but I'm done for the week =)

But next week I'll be back and I hope to crush NL10 :f_drink:

@vonki: yeah, only later I realised it =P Silly me
@SvenBe: naaah, that's one of the good snakes =) But last week I carried a poisonous one on my shoulder by accident :f_ugly:

I won't extend much into this post, because I've got a bunch of stuff to do, so... just for the record:

Hands played this week: ~7k-ish
Current roll: $102
Ready for NL10 =)

I might put in some volume in the middle of the week, but I guess it's more likely that I'll do it on the weekend.

Peace!

Hi, had no time, so just now responding.

Versus a 3b, let's say that he'll 4b for value QQ+,AK for 34 combos. And that he'll call AJs, AQ, 99-JJ for 38 combos.

I do not expect many 4bets for value with QQ and AK in UTG at micros as NL5. I see they call a 3bet, even OOP with those hands.
And I also do not expet AJs to call a 3bet by default, especially OOP. PPs I expect, as vonki said even lower vones than 99.

Since we have position we can reduce greatly the danger of reverse implied odds, by knowing where we stand playing properly.

that is good of course. Lets say we 3bet AJ, he calls with AQ OOP. Flop is Axx. So then we should not cbet I think, to keep the pot small. THen we call turn. But I am not sure can we call river. Because I do not think that people will bluff very often 2nd time in 3bet pot. And also they will not bet for value weaker hands.

So what woudl you do on blank turn and river in that situation? Call turn, fold river? Looks not fun, but if its best play, then nothing we can do.

Or if we cbet, I do not know for what reason - maybe to get call from 2nd pair like JJ. THen we check, he bets turn - we fold? Or do we call? If we call turn, and he bets river - we have to fold again proably.

I am really not sure about those situation, so I keep not 3beting AJ vs UTG :)

With suited connector its imo easier to play post flop. He can call 3bet with whatever he wants. If we hit draw, we cbet, if we do not, we give up. Simple.

So also to get total ev - we have to include post flop. Maybe preflop is higher ev to 3bet blockers. But how does it look postflop? Or maybe there is no problem to fold TP when oponent is agresive 2 streets, becayuse we know his range is strong. We just go for 1 street of value (by betting or blufcathcing).

Did 2 sweats, 1 with kriko92 and another one with speedfanat1c! Thanks a lot you western european geezers! ;) Some really nice discussions about when to cbet,

Actually I am from Lithuania, its not west, its middle :)
DId you get those hand links about chets in skype? I know you werent online when I posted, but I hope you saw. There were some discussions in forum, about them, but you did not say there anything.

@speedfanatic: Yeah, I know the correct EV calculation would require some really thorough and complex equations, BUT this basic calculation is somewhat meaningul. I really think we can play near - perfect IP. There's no problem when we flop TP w/ AJ. We just have to know that our hand is not good for stacks most probably. We can check behind, call once, or cbet, or whatever. People won't be bluffing us off our hand ever, so I really have no problem in folding when opponent obviously has better. The cool thing about it is our equity against stuff like 88-TT, and even someting like JJ and QQ. It's all the better if they're calling QQ instead of 4betting, because agains AJ they should most definitely be 4betting QQ. And we will get at least 1 street, maybe 2, of value when flop comes AT9 or whatever. And they will let us know when they have AK or AQ if we check back either flop or turn. I guess there are obviously advantages to both plays, let us keep this discussion going while I 3b AJ and KQ and you 3bet the suited connectors =D And maybe after a while we can put in those hands in pokertracker and take a deeper look at it and see whats really going on.

yeah, when I said Western europeans I really meant EASTERN, it was a mispell. You said it's middle europe, but in my mind there's no such a thing, there's only west or east, haha =P Geography is not my strongest point, sorry =/

I'm sorry I didn't check the hands, last couple of weeks were pretty crazy, so I didn't really have the time. But I'll try to look into it tomorrow.

@Joanaes: Ha, you guys are all black members now, I would be a black member too if I hadn't stopped =/ Always good to see people from the old days =) You grinding a lot these days?

UPDATE

Alright peoplez! I'z in town ready for the grind! Will be here till sunday early morning I think and I hope to put in at least some 10k hands. But it is carnival and I'm brazilian, so I'm gonna have to do a little bit of carnival jumping tomorrow =)

Like already mentioned, I'm rolled for NL10 w/ 10BI! You know, if you make the calculations, if I have a 20BI straight upswing I'll get to $1000 using this BRM =D He, can't hurt to dream a little bit, right =) I do hope I do good in NL10 now.

I've been checking out Gordon's No Bullshit 6-max (btw, tyvm for the suggestion speedfanatic!), and it has really helped me improve my mindset a little bit. I love the way he doesn't care about the little tiny bit whatever things that really don't matter that much. After watching some videos and checking the book out, I really stopped mentalizing too much on the game, and just swtiched back to basic obvious +EV poker. And the great thing about this is that when you stop mentalizing too much about every frigging decision, your mind is less tense and you end up seeing other spots where you can make money.

You know, if you think about it, the toughest decisions are the ones that impact the least your winrate, because they are only so tough because they're really close. The obvious decisions are the ones which are really +EV. Of course, as we perfect as poker players we NEED to get every little edge we can, and then the tough decisions start making a bigger difference. But for the micros, it doesn't really matter THAT much. The EV of having a lighter mind during gameplay is a lot bigger then the EV you might get from that really tough decision when you're anywhere between 48% - 52%.

So yeah. I just got a message form pokerstrategy saying I have some free money in FT, I might see what's up with that, but I guess I won't be giving it too much attention because I relaly need to focus on my deposit bonus on pokerstars, can't let that be lost. This month I didn't even maintain gold status here because it was so crazy the last couple of weeks.

Alright, now on a side note, I've been doing a lot of kitchen work at the farm, making jams and chutneys =) Gotta love it.

I made Guava and Siriguela (don't know how it's called in english, cientific name Spondias purpurea for botanic fanatics like me) jams with as little sugar as possible. Something like 5% - 10% sugar, whereas people are usually putting in 50% sugar and a bunch of other crap. My jams are 90% fruit and 10% sugar and that's it.

I made the facebook page, where I'll be announcing the products form the farm, and updating with other agriculture/agroforrestry/permaculture/whatever updates. If any of you guys are interested in the topics, check out the page in facebook:

Everything is in portuguese though, obviously.

Alright, now I guess I'm gonna have dinner and if I still have energy I might grind a little bit.

Oh, on another side note, I've been checking out some possibilities for cheap solar pannels for the farm. Because I really want to hire the internet for the farm, but I need an alternative energy system, like I have already mentioned. But the thing is I don't quite understand how to dimension the system in order to supply enough poer for computer + internet equipment. I don't exactly understand all the amps/volts/watts thing. I read that amp is the amount of energy, volt the intensity and watts = volts x amp or something like that, but that's as far as I got. Anybody here understand enough of this sheeeit to help me out? =D I'd be extremely grateful!

Alright, cheers peoplez!

@joanes: ahh, haha nice =) Poker is pretty awesome imo, hehe

I did put in some volume yesterday. How it went:

KK < AJ all-in on Jxx
Straight < set all-in on the turn
AA < AK on QJx

:f_biggrin: Keep'em coming Miss Variance, I love the thrill :f_love:

I did ask to keep'em coming :f_ugly:

AA < KK pre
QQ < T7 on T96 (ok, this is not sooo bad, I was only 67%=)

Alright, back to the grind!!! The money goes to my Variance Bank Savings Account :f_drink:

Woah, quick update here! Finished off the grind for the weekend. Did not manage to put in 10k hands because carnival took a bit more time then expected... :f_biggrin: Did put in something like 5-6k hands though

But good news, despite the crappy first couple of thousand hands, I moved up to NL10 once again and managed to make a little bit of money.

Roll stands now at exactly $114. Nice =) At $150 I shoot NL25 again. Maybe next weekend, eh ? :f_drink:

Alright, time to get to bed now. Cheers, everyone!

I asked lemon coaching about this. He now prefers suited connectors for easy playability , but said its nothing wrong with blockers.
I am now thinking - maybe to then to mix a range would be good idea - some suited connectors and some blockers.

I've been checking out Gordon's No Bullshit 6-max (btw, tyvm for the suggestion speedfanatic!),

I do not even remember when I adviced you gordon :)

My bad, it was kriko, not you, haha =P For some reason I thought it had been you.

Yeah, about the 3betting thing we can certainly mix it up depending on the players I guess. But I still think that the blockers are more +EV IF we play well post-flop.

Now for some bad news: pokerstars just updated the software and my computer is too old to run it :f_frown:

So, how did it go? I was looking for your BR-challenge update? Or can't you play at all now after the Update of your PokerStars software?

Hey Sven! Actually I'm playing at my brothers computer right now, but was away for several days in Bahia, where I was conducting an agroforestry course.

But I did put in some hands today and did make some profit, although just a little bit and mostly due to bonus releases actually =/ I still seem unable to put in REAL profit.

I get kind of worried that maybe I'm just playing bad, but it really does seem like variance is playing a decent part. I guess I just gotta keep up the same old keep on putting volume and studying. But I really should start posting more hands on the forum. It is harder though wo tracking software, and Im not able to post hands in weaktight for some reason, so that sucks a lot.

Anyway, Im just gonna make this a quick update, because Im short on time right now. School vacation is over, so now Im gonna have to figure out a new routine to keep on playing poker.

So, roll stands at $195 and Im currently playing NL25. At $250 I take a 50bb shot at NL50 :f_ugly: Lets see how that goes.

I have been fixing some small leaks I think, like reducing my cbet % on flop w made hands in some spots and also trying to find spots where a delayed cbet with air is more +EV than cbetting flop.

Alright, gotta get back to the farm now. Will try to put in some more words here in the forum during the weak to talk a little bit about new routine ideas for this semester.

Cheers!

Oh damn, you just casually mention all this stuff that you do on the side (side= other than poker) - it sounds so cool for us urban Europeans...

Hello Felipe,

Enjoyed catching up with your blog. Keep up the good work on and off the tables. :f_drink:

I made Guava and Siriguela (don't know how it's called in english, cientific name Spondias purpurea for botanic fanatics like me) jams with as little sugar as possible. Something like 5% - 10% sugar, whereas people are usually putting in 50% sugar and a bunch of other crap. My jams are 90% fruit and 10% sugar and that's it.

Sounds nice. Would go well with a scone and cup of tea (cream tea) :f_thumbsup:
