How am I doing?

Hey there :f_drink:

I've just started playing cash games recently after having been crushed by every bad beat under the sun playing tournaments. Yeah, I know, we'll all suffer them but I've really run bad since starting last year. Anyway, to take a bit of a break I began playing for cash and I wanted to know how I'm doing. There are two things I'd like to know:

1. My cash graph on HM2 reads as follows:

Showdown = 174.50 BB
Non-Showdown = 84 BB
All-in EV = 230.50 BB
Net Won = 258.50 BB

Obviously I'm winning a bit but although I understand what the lines mean I don't know how they stand in relation to each other. Is non-showdown high enough? Too high? Am I supposed to be above EV or below it? Sorry if these seem noobish questions but I really am new to cash.

2. My stats in HM2 are 21/15/7/5.2 (VPIP/PFR/3Bet/AF). Again I know what they mean but don't know if some are too high or too low or too far apart in comparison to each other. Am I too loose, too tight, a nit, a LAG, a TAG?

Obviously what I'm doing is working ok but maybe there are some things I need to tighten up or loosen up. Also you may not be able to say because there's not enough info to go on but I'd just like to know how it looks so far and if I should carry on in the same way or make adjustments.

Hi LeliannaLee,

How many hands have you played? Both your blue and red line are going up so that is great. However it is very difficult to say anything without knowing the sample size. You are running above EV so in some all-in spots you have made more money than you will on the long run. This pretty much doesn't mean anything, those will be break even eventually.

Your stats look ok. You are playing a bit tight but it seems to work fine for you.

I can't really give you any advice based on this info. To find leaks we would need stats by position and many postflop stats. And those are just guidelines, it is more important to play different hands correctly than have a correct looking stat. For example if your overall 3bet is 7% that might be ok but if you 3bet wrong hands it is not going to work. So you should not change your game to get better looking stats, those stats should be a byproduct of playing correctly.

So far it looks good because you are winning. But it is still a good idea to always work on your game and try to get better. With some adjustments you might be able to win even more :f_thumbsup:

It's only a small sample, around 2000 hands. Like I said, I've only just started playing. I know I need to have about 50 times that to get a realistic idea, I just wanted to know if I was on the right track.

You're probably right, I feel I do play tight but once I get into a pot people know I'm there as I am VERY aggressive. I see too much of this limp, call, call, fold river stuff and I don't want to be like that as I much prefer to have 2 ways to win a pot. I'm also very capable of laying good hands down. Having AK on an Axx flop isn't a passport to never ending riches. At the lower stakes I've learned that TPTK is no good when the little fishes play back at you when you show strength. When it goes bet/call, bet/call, bet/RAISE they ain't doing it with one pair. Easy fold for me.

I guess I'll keep going like I am and see how things pan out. Thanks for the advice :f_love:

I think you need just play as much as possible (not in a row) to gain experience.
