fold, CO raises to 3 BB, Hero calls 3 BB, SB calls 2.5 BB, BB calls 2 BB

Flop: (12 BB, 4 players) 8♣ 2♥ 6♥
SB bets 4 BB, fold, CO calls 4 BB, Hero calls 4 BB

Turn: (24 BB, 3 players) J♣
SB bets 4 BB, CO calls 4 BB, Hero calls 4 BB

River: (36 BB, 3 players) 8♦
SB bets 4 BB, fold, Hero calls 4 BB

Landed OTR with middle pair only J bitted villain's range. Looking for my hand to improve to flush, trips, double pair. Line was call, call, call; last call is less terrible tbh if we account the odds 10:1 (9%) but was cheap (had to win 9% times to break even and I had some showdown value). I cn see villain 3barreling AK, AQ, KQ, etc. and a lot of missed draws as well.

Some players will vote for calling as the price is good. But I do not like to call cause he is betting into 2 players. There are 77+ possible.

Would be a clear call for me OTF. You need only 16% direct odds to call here and with pair+backdoors you get 20% even vs 2 guys with 77+ and some flush draws.
Also this hand retains its equity well and you get a chance to maybe bluff on some further streets.
Also, theoretically you have to defend a wide range vs 1/3pot bet and I would say this hand should be in your defending range, otherwise you are folding too easily.

I remember one coach giving a general rule of thumb, that was never to fold OTF when you hit a pair, even a weak one.

When villain bets with so small sizings I think he must be weak. If he bets a monster like this he really hates money. I might turn my weak pair + missed draw into a bluff here.
You have over 4000 hands on this guy so I assume you should have some info? Was this the first time he was using so small sizings?

Okay I thought you were thinking about folding OTF.

But OTR we need 9% equity to call this profitably.

Board: 8♣2♥6♥ J♣ 8♦
       Equity     Win     Tie
MP2    12.77%  12.77%   0.00% { 7c6c }
MP3    87.23%  87.23%   0.00% { 88+, 66-55, 22, 86s+ }

I just put 41 combos that beat us and added random 55 (6 combos) in villain's range and we already get 13%.
When we think of villains very weak looking line I believe he can have a lot more than just 6 combos of weaker hands here.

nitrol may be right, but I am calling out of curiosity anyway.

If calling is truly terrible, say we win only 5% of the time, then we make something like a 2 bb mistake (in EV) by calling. But if folding is truly terrible, e.g. if we win 20% of the times, then it is about an 8 bb mistake to fold. Pot odds are tremendously important in any calling decision. "Guess villain's hand" loses almost all importance.

Thinking about folding is ridiculous :)

Would you consider folding PF? I usually just call PF when I have Call 20 for small pairs...

No folding preflop. You have position and good playability.

I would probably also call here for this price but expect to lose. We can indeed call PF with this hand IP.

preflop is whatever, you're not making a mistake as fold 3bet or call seem fine to me
In this case I'd call also as BB is a nit and SB doesn't 3bet much so we'll see a lot of flops
