For years I've also been struggling to get profit out of Zoom 2NL/5NL/10NL. Every year I came out break-even-ish with rakeback.
I wanted to play zoom because of the fast action and good volumes (rakeback) you can get there, but despite the huge amounts of fish and bad play, I finally came to the conclusion that it just was unbeatable for a "normal" level player like me. I'm sure some good/elite players will laugh at me for saying this but after 400k hands, coaching, studying, I finally gave up on zoom. It's unbeatable.
This year I started playing regular tables to see how that would go and the results are looking good (10+BB/100hands) . In compare with with zoom the level is so much worse, it's almost unbelievable. You do "need" a HUD thou.
I used to play 4x zoom and get about 800-1000 hands per hour. I play 6 tables now with about 400-500 hands per hour. A big reducing but well worth it.
I don't want my tables to get too small, but if you can play more tables, I think you can get close to the same amount of hands as in zoom.
Just wanted to support you and show you are not alone struggling out there! And as some others also said: play regular tables, you'll love it
